Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I rebooked for 7/10. Just posted a review. I tested negative on an antigen test. Apparently the PCR tests are more sensitive. Now that I am back on dry land, I will have to check for sure, but somewhere in the bowels of the Medallion Class app I saw $300+ in FCC that the Travel Advisor had NOT applied to my cruise. Sneaky, sneaky Princess.
  2. The coupon book above is slightly different than what I received (fewer charms, no logo scarf free 8x10 Platinum print). The expiration date on mine was 12/22/22. In addition to the free wine also used the 30% off $100 fragrance coupon and the Free Platinum Print coupon (I had to get Guest Services to print out the whole coupon book including Terms and Conditions for her and the photographer had to check with the Powers-That-Be because she had never heard of the promotion, but now she has!). Please note that several of the Lotus Spa coupons are for specific days.
  3. Just off the Discovery. I tried to reply while onboaed, but I think the wifi ate it. I had dinner in the Crown Grill my first night...not through any great planning on my part, but because I'd had to cancel due to Covid, rescheduled within 9 days of departure, and that was the only night I could get a reservation. I *did* get the free bottle of wine. Details follow. The coupon was in a book of coupons emailed to me directly from Princess. The subject line is, "Res. #xxxxx, Your Exclusive Coupon Book is Here". I had to reserve directly with Princess to keep my discount, and it says that the coupon book is from the Princess Travel Advisor, so maybe it is only for booking direct? Or only with the Premier Beverage Package? Or both?? This was my second Princess Cruise in 10 years and I was in a Guarantee Inside cabin, so nothing to do with Loyalty Status or cabin class. I wasn't given a bottle out of the kindness of their hearts. I had to request it and explain the offer. Anyway, I asked my waiter about the coupon and offered to show a screenshot. I also explained that it was for one of the day's Featured Wines and that I wasn't trying to get a free bottle of something fancy. He had to go speak with the manager, but came back to say yes. They never did ask for the screenshot. There were 2 options for which wine, and I went with his recommendation. I asked if I could take the bottle back to my room, and they said that was fine. I had brought a bottle of supermarket sauvignon blanc, and I also won a bottle of "champagne" in one of the trivia contests, so I ended up with White Plonk, Red Plonk, and Bubbling Plonk! TL;DR- I did get the free bottle, it's not a myth. I asked nicely and offered documentation.
  4. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the quick replies and will look forward to a future cruise.
  5. I just tested positive for Covid. Two days before the end of school!! Mild symptoms and am waiting to get approved for an antiviral. 6/26 on Discovery Princess is a no-go , since it leaves in 6 days, but anyone have any advice on procedures? I have the cheap coverage, because the Princess agent just talked about the medical benefits, not different cancellation coverage. I was driving and didn't need airfare coverage, etc. I found it was a different level of refund for cancellation and emailed to change, but they said no, because it was paid in full. My fault. But at least it was $632 (I used the teacher's discount) and wasn't my life's dream cruise involving my life savings!! I prepaid tips and wine tastings and specialty dining.
  6. Great advice about the buffet, thanks! There are a couple of nights where my reserved times are just over an hour before thenight's entertainment, so maybe I will opt for the buffet those nights. Sunset in Alaska is around 10:30 at night, and I am still hoping for some dinnertime views. Since I'm on my own, it's fun to look out the window. I really appreciate any advice, especially since it's a new ship and there aren't a ton of reviews. I've been to Alaska before, but it'll be my first time in Skagway. This is a bit of a last-minute trip, but I should probably get serious about figuring out excursions...or at least one!
  7. Hello, all! I'm headed on a solo Alaska cruise on Discovery Princess and am wondering about view tables in the main dining rooms and specialty restaurants. Which ones have the best views (or the most windows...I suppose the actual view depends on what's going by at the time!). Do I ask ahead for a table near the window? Also, do the specialty restaurants offer lunch on any days? Is there a discount? How should I reserve? Any other new Discovery advice? I took a Princess cruise 10 years ago, but I'm sure that much has changed! Is there anything else I should be reserving ahead? The Medallion app is driving me nuts right here on dry land!!
