  1. I don't think you can change it at this point. The travel agency you booked with, owns the reservation.

I just checked the NCL site and while I do believe B4 is supposed to be a higher category than BA, the price of the B4 is actually less than the BA. Could you try going onto the NCL site and getting all the information, then call the TA and ask to speak to a manager or owner. Then push firmly but politely and ask how a room for $1099 per person is supposed to be an upgrade from a room that is $1249.

The large balcony and aft-facing balconies are the only ones that I can see that are "better" rooms.

I don't really have much hope, but perhaps with the facts and numbers in hand, and remembering you can get catch flies with honey than vinegar (or whatever that stupid expression is) you can do something.

If none of that works, take a deep breath and enjoy your cruise.

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

  2. I don't get that, we booked a guaranteed mini suite and also got the promo dining and drinking I'm confused

Maybe I spoke incorrectly. I've been keeping my eye on a few cruises and have found that the guarantee categories come without promotions. I know this is a "fairly" new plan. So, maybe it's just some sailings or maybe it's one of the changes. This is what I see when I look at my upcoming Escape cruise.

    Guarantee Mini-Suite

A Guarantee stateroom (GTY) guarantees a Mini-Suite stateroom or better! Please note that the view from your balcony may be fully obstructed or partially obstructed. Your stateroom may be on any deck and assigned up to one day prior to embarkation.

Promotions are excluded on this category and not recommended if you have specific - deck & window preferences, proximity to elevators, etc.

  3. Unlike you, I'm very quiet and reserved. Do you think the Vibe pass would be necessary for me if, like you, I'm not going to use the pool/hot tub/whatever and we have a large balcony.

I'm really trying to strategize how to make this the best cruise ever. :D

I've already sent the link to your video and copied and pasted a bunch of your Escape posts to my traveling companion. Thanks for the time spent writing and all the detail.

  4. However be aware pool/sun deck is above so there is an over hang roof above. So not a lot of sun some early morning or evening depending on direction of ship.

I'm not much of a sun person so the over hang sounds great. BUT, is it stuffy at all or is there still plenty of wind/breeze?

  5. Agreed... with the objectophelia + passive aggressive behavior on CC these days, the forum has lost a bit of quality that it once had.

I really don't think it's just a cruise critic thing. It's all over the internet.

  6. I have the old unlimited dinning package UDP for 9 days. Has anyone ever been able to use one of the days for the up charge items in the main dining room?

I know that sometimes things are different once on the ship but I was told by Norwegian that the upcharge items in the main dining room are NOT covered by the UDP.

  7. Doing lots of research on this ship, so happy to have seen your video and eagerly awaiting your further posts. Does anyone have any information on the Mini-Suite Guarantee? Is there a bad mini-suite on this ship? Looking to go in August to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.

I don't know about location but I did want to point out, in case you didn't know, that the guarantee rooms do not include the promos such as drinking or dining.

  8. Does Norwegian use the term "Freestyle" anymore. I poked around their website today and didn't see it. Of course it's probably in 3 inch high letters and I just missed it.

I've just been reading quite a few criticisms of Norwegian's "Freestyle" and I'm not sure they market that anymore.

    Just found it!!!

  9.

The question I have is this: Not factoring in the larger balcony or access to a spa, which one would you recommend? To really make this confusing there is also the option to go with just a Mini-Suite with balcony (MA,MB,MC) all mid ship on decks 10-15.

Not sure why you don't want to factor in the larger balcony or access to the spa. These are major points to the cabins in question.

However, middle of the ship is supposed to provide more stability - so if there is a concern about sea sickness that is something to consider.

With there being only two banks of elevators (I think) on a large ship, you might want to choose something closer to an elevator if a long walk gives you any concern. And by concern, I just mean it can be a big pain in the butt.

Look at the decks above and below. Are their cabins or are there public areas in the location. There can be considerable furniture movement if you are below the pool deck area. There can be loud music if you are near a music venue, especially Spice (if that's what it's called on the Escape).

I personally have no concerns about stability or the elevator. I would avoid the deck below the public areas. If it is not in the public area, I would choose the spa room because spa access really is great - even if you don't want to consider that. :D

  10. When you show up at each restaurant, you need to tell them if you are using your SDP, using your platinum certificates (which come with a bottle of wine), or paying a la carte. At the end of your meal, your waiter will close out the bill based on method of payment.

Do people have good luck with this? On a recent cruise, we wanted to pay one of the less expensive out of pocket. After some back and forth, we were told we would have to go to the guest services desk to have the "free" night put back and have the dinner charged to our room. Needless to say, for $10 we weren't going to put that much effort into it.

For our next cruise, we have 3 nights of SDP and 4 nights of UDP and a platinum meal. I hope it all goes smoothly. Somehow I manage to stress about stupid stuff like this. LOL

  11. OMG I am making myself CRAZY over this. Just called back ( 3rd time) and I'm in 12910 and that's where I'm staying! Joltnpest you are going soon ?

I am right there with you in crazy land.

I JUST texted the friend who's my sailing partner and said, "Looks like I have to call again and change our room." LOL

  12. Since 2002 on my first NCL cruise, there has been auto gratuity on drinks. This is nothing new... it just was only 15 percent until recently.

In 1988 I sailed NCL for my honeymoon. The number of receipts that we had for beer at $1.50 plus 15% tip/gratuity/whatever could have wallpapered the Taj Mahal. To this day I remind my husband of this. :D

He's actually on the Dawn right now enjoying his Unlimited Beverage Package.

  13. Thanks for posting this. My husband is on the ship right now with his sister. It's her first cruise and I am really so excited for her. My husband was not overly excited to be going with her but she is going through a very rough divorce so she asked him to go so she would have something to look forward to.

My husband is hilarious because he is platinum latitudes but knows absolutely nothing because he's used to me leading the way.

I told him not to use his cellphone because I have to make it very black and white for him. So I won't get any kind of updates until they get back.

  14. My kids went on their first NCL cruise in 1999 at the ages of 7 and 8. They are both platinum latitudes now and cruise without Mom and Dad. They cruise with friends. So not sure it's in NCL's best interest to not encourage families.

One of my favorite ships is the Disney Fantasy with the very large adult only areas.

My "cruizinwithkids" screen name is no longer true.
