  1. You can park at Port Imperial in Weehauken, NJ, and ferry across the river and then walk to the port, but in the winter it is cold for that walk. (taxi is also an option)

I JUST read about this option and have some questions. I am booked on a 7 day cruise and am looking for options other than $280 for parking.

Anyway, it looks like there is a free bus option from the ferry terminal to the cruise ship terminal. Can anyone confirm this. I also didn't think the website was very clear about overnight parking. Is this available at Port Imperial?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  2. You will be amazed at the vast majority of posters on CC who have extremely gifted and talented children.

That has always been my favorite part of the debates. Funny that my CC name is cruizinwithkids, but I don't usually anymore. In fact right now my son is on the Pride of America with his girlfriend.

My daughter was a "gifted and talented child." My son was average. MOST of their cruises were during vacations but they did miss school for a few of them. I think their traveling taught them "life" knowledge rather than book knowledge.

I've never gotten involved in the debates. I know that I have no regrets for having taken my kids out of school. My average student is working successfully after having graduated from college. My "gifted and talented child" is currently enrolled in college with pretty impressive scholarships.

  3. Everyone please contact NCL for you answer before you waste your $500 voucher on an upgrade or just stuff. Sometime the people on these boards aren't exactly accurate and get kind of confused .

Keep calling NCL accounting until you get a person who truly understands that your cruise cost $2300 total and you are sending in $2000 to cover the balance plus some that you already paid. Good luck.

Magnolia and smeyer: Please jump in at this point regarding some incorrect information some people (no names mentioned) often give on this board.

Maybe they are NOW sticking to the exact terms which read:

This Certificate may not be used retroactively or to pay the cost of cruise-related travel deposits.

  4. I haven't read everything on this thread - too long- sorry if repeating' date=' but when we were in London and Paris last year, our Discover card was not accepted anywhere. We will stick with a Visa or Mastercard.[/quote']

Without going into the messy details, we left our teenagers cashless when we went on a cruise, but left them with our Discover card. The list of where the card was accepted was far shorter than the list of where it was not. We are not in a big city and it could be different there, but my kids ended up having to drive about an hour to my brother's to borrow money. I would certainly never make that my only card AND I don't think my kids will ever be interested in getting one.

  5. Thank you, we'll read the "fine print" prior to our cruise. Would you pay for NCL excursions since you get more points on NCL related or would you rather save money and do your own tours? We have 7-8 ports and the tours would add up substantially with family of 5. We have private quotes for 400 Euros for each tour which would come out to approx $600 each port which would come out to about $5000 in tours for the entire trip, plus gratuities. I think the NCL excursions are close to that price. If we go through NCL, I think we would end up with enough points for a $500 certificate by the end of the cruise? :)

    ...

I am way too wimpy to have that question asked. You are definitely paying more than 4% above the cost of a private tour so it really doesn't work out to a savings. However if I was in Europe I would do ship tours because I would be so nervous about missing the ship. I think you could call my fear of abandonment in a foreign country a phobia, so I really don't think it's worth a normal person considering.:D

  6. We don't do much gambling, but wouldn't we pay the higher interest or fees with a cash advance?

It ends up being a charge to your on board account. Be careful if you do this as I have read other lines are changing it to being the type of cash advance you are talking about. We have had to do it the "tricky" was sometimes where we are given chips, walk away, then cash them in. I don't use it for the gambling but basically to pay additional gratuities and such at the end of the cruise.

  7. Yesterday I got a call from our TA with an upsale proposal. I cant remember what type of balcony cabin we had, but the upsale was to a garden villa. We are taking my Mother-in-law with my husband and I so there would be 3 of us in a cabin---so now we are really excited about being in a garden villa. The upsale was a total of 1000. From what I read it sounds totally worth the money. We are sailing on the Pearl May 18.:)

WOW, that's a great upsell. I've toured a garden villa, but never stayed in one. I agree with your statement that is seems totally worth the money. Enjoy.:)

  8. Cruisinmama, can I bother you for a totally unrelated question. Do you visit Disney board(s) as well? My brother and wife are taking their kids and they are clueless. I'd like to point them to a board to do some info gathering.

    Thanks.

  9. Well, there is no question as to what the priority is here. I'm not going to risk going on the cruise to save $800 if that is what you are thinking. My only question to the board was concerning if there was an out. Clearly, most here feel there is no out concerning the NCL pregnancy rules that are available if you do a google search.

There also seems to be very little sympathy or weight given to the fact that we only booked this cruise 2 weeks ago so how much can NCL really be out. Well, I guess I can pretty much count on NCL taking the same position.

I don't blame you for not wanting to be out the money, but I think you are trying to twist NCL's policy to help you accomplish getting your money back. In reality at such an early stage of pregnancy NCL has no way to know of the pregnancy so they would not ask for evidence of being fit to travel.

Boy that sounds like a really nice cruise. Wonder how bad the airfare would be from Boston.

  11. I plan on using $3,000 in reward certificates on our upcoming cruise that will cost about $3500 for the stateroom. I will be purchasing travel insurance from a 3rd party company (not NCL). I would like to insure the cruise cost of $3500 and was wondering if there would be any problem collecting on this if we had to cancel for covered reasons, since we used our rewards certificate to pay.

Has anyone had any knowledge or experience with this or your thoughts.

    Thanks.

I cannot answer that question based on personal experience, but I was told that yes, it is based on the value of the cruise. I asked that very same question somewhere else as I have the same issue for an upcoming cruise.

  12. You will leave at 1:00 PM, an hour earlier than we did, from looking at the map you should have enough daylight to view the coast going clockwise.

Thank you for doing my homework for me - just like school. Seriously I didn't see a map like that. My printed itinerary shows departure at 2PM, but I'm sure one hour won't make a difference either way. That really was very thoughtful of you to look up the itinerary and everything.

I noticed on one of your pictures you seemed to be at the front of the ship. We are in 9002. Were you near that?

  13. I'm sorry but I have to ask. How do I know if I will be viewing NaPali coast? I am on the ten day 2/13/08 cruise. We depart Kaua'i on Tuesday at 2PM. The Wednesday itinerary is "Cruise the South Coast of Moloka'i."

I know this is a new itinerary so no one has been on it, but would people assume we would depart Nawiliwili on Tuesday then go around Kaua'i on our way to cruising the Moloka'i coast?

  14. Should have paid for 9 days:

    $ 5.75

    x 9

    $51.75

I paid approximately for 9 days:

    $ 7.50

    x 9

    $67.50

    +10.15 gratuity

    $77.65

If I recall correctly, our bill for 2 was around $155. :D

Maybe you were charged for three cards????

    $5.75

    x9

    51.75

    x3

    $155.25

  15. I went on the Starward in 1988 for my honeymoon. It was the first cruise I had ever been on and the ship was the biggest thing I had ever seen. I couldn't even find my way around it. I don't think there is ever anything like your first cruise. I've been on a bunch since then and of course get even more lost.
