Check-in opened up for me today for our August 18th trip on the Pearl.  However, although I have tried taking numerous photos for the "required" photo, I cannot get past that point.  I guess it doesn't like the photo for whatever reason.  Is there a way around this so that we can complete our check-in and access our boarding pass?

Are they not taking pictures at the pier any longer?

I hate this part of check in and yes they will take your photo at the pier also. I usually check in on my desktop for the other parts and use my cell phone to do the stupid and really frustrating photo thingy.  Sometimes the system will decide it does 'like' that photo after all even though it was rejected 3X.

Good morning. I have the free at sea which includes 150 min WI-FI  Do I also need an international plan from Verizon?

AT&T has unlimited calling texting and internet for $10 a day all day on land for the first 10 days then free for the rest of the month. One month for $100. It works also if the ship is in a port and youre on the ship. Easy to set up in every port. Works great in Europe etc Cheaper than at home for a month. Also put you home phone and desk top computer on suspension while you are gone. $7 a month for each. We do this every time we go to Europe and cruise. If you turn your phone on at 10am it will be one day at 10am the next day so that way you can get 2 days for the price of one. (only do this if you are going to be in ports 2 days in a row.)

I am looking at taking NCL on a 15 day TA from Civitavecchia to NYC in December on Gem.

The ports look amazing but the ship seems a little dated. Anyone have any experience with a long sailing on this ship?

We did the TA on the Gem last December. Plus other cruises. We plan to do the TA in December this year.

We love this ship. Yes its smaller and older but its not as crowded as the bigger ships and most of the NCL experiences are there also.

Ive been on larger ships where the public areas were clogged all day and the lines for the MDRs, shorex, guest services and entertainment tickets were long continually. Most shore excursions were sold out and entertainment times were full.

  4. The new price will be for new bookings. If you are already booked the price it was then still applies.

However, if the price of the cruise itself goes down and you wish to take advantage of the new lower price, you will pay the difference for the other new fees also, dining, any port fees/tax increases etc.

    Per phone call to NCL

Thank you for your reply... I meant is it locked so even Studio guests cannot access it at times?  Example, I've been to hotels at concierge level, and at times the concierge lounge is closed to concierge guests.  I was wondering if that's the case here.

On the Epic last month it was open 24/7 for the Studio guests using our key cards. Its right across from the keyed door to the cabins. At 5-7pm there was someone at the bar to sell beer wine and some mixed drinks. There was a very large TV on the wall and plenty of comfortable seating. The studio was on Deck 11 and the Deck 12 passengers just came down a stairwell into the room from their corridor where they had access to that outside door. All the studio cabins are in a corridor down the middle of the ship forward Nobody can access the corridor itself without a key card. Very private.

As others have said, there will be a mid week laundry special.  I would not put anything that needs cold water or is delicate.  Each piece of your clothing is marked with a tag with a specific number, then thrown into a huge washing machine along with a whole lot of other peoples' clothes.

And those tags are hard to get off your clothes.

We were dropped right in front of our terminal. But the driver was a little confused and we had to encourage him. For instance, he got behind a long line of taxis who were there to pick up paddy not drop off. So as New Yorkers we showed him that he could go around.

Thinking of getting a studio cabin.  Can you go sit in the lounge and hang out 24/7?  Or is the door locked sometimes?

Are the snacks/drinks free?  Or do you pay with your seapass card for certain items (coffee).  I saw alcohol bottles on a youtube tour, but I can't imagine they're just free to all studio people (?)

It is on the Epic The door is always locked. You use your room key to get in. Its just for Studio passengers. Theres a coffee machine and snacks etc

regardless of how you try to accomplish it, you are doing yourself a massive disservice if you dont get to venice. it's amazing, breathtaking, and a must see if you are able to. w're booked oct 2024 from venice (trieste) and once again, we plan to fly into venice a few days early, book private transportation to trieste the day before sailing, and then happily board the ship the next day. belive me, it's totally worth it.

We were suppose to cruise out of Venice in Oct 2020 after spending 5 days there in an apartment. Our cruise was cancelled of course and then the locals voted to stop the cruise ships from coming up the Grand Canal.. I visited Venice sans a cruise because I dont relish the idea of having to travel all the way to and fro Trieste. Im glad I went this time.

Just returned from a cruise on the Gem which was supposed to have Venice as the second last port and then to end in Ravenna. The day before the planned stop in Venice it was announced that Venice would be skipped and the Gem went to Ravenna a day early, where bus shuttles would be provided to visit Venice for those not minding a 2,5 hr bus ride to get there.

I was on the Epic TA last month. I traveled around Italy and flew home from Venice on May 22. That day there were Gem passengers at the Venice airport who said much the same thing. They came in a day early or late and had to travel to the airport from Trieste..

  11. I always have a problem with the photo, so I do everything but that part on my desktop and then use my phone. I usually have a battle with the photo though. They take another one at the terminal so I dont know why they require us to add a photo.
