  1. agreed.

Few cruises ago had a problem with waitstaff ignoring my DW food allergies .

When I showed this to the head waiter he shrugged his shoulders saying what can I do.

This was the next to last night of the cruise and brought my complaint to MD who apologized and do believe waitstaff was talked to at length. They did send us bottle of wine and cheese plate and made us a special dinner that was sent to us on lido when we told him we didnt want to deal with waitstaff the last night of the cruise.

Sorry Sheila had a hard time in the MDR but wonder why you waited until the second to last night to speak up. There went their tips.

  2.

The second part of your post is true, but the first part is wrong.

Texas laws (TABC) state any alcohol consumed in the state and domestic waters must have a tax paid. Carnival provisions enough alcohol for the estimated time spent in port for embarkation and the time to sail to international waters. They offer beer, wine and mixed drinks from a full bar service. Once in international waters they bars close for about ten minutes for the tax paid alcohol to be stored away and then they reopen will full bar service.

Texas also decided to enforce a decades old law of collecting tax on alcohol brought back from cruises. They have personnel in the terminal at the very last part as you walk out asking if you made a purchase. They are after US Customs and people just walk right by.

The Cheers package starts the first full day at sea. Carnival doesn't count that day as part of the package, and the price is adjusted accordingly.

Texas also prohibits liquor purchases on Sunday. Liquor is sold in free standing stores, not convenience or grocery stores up to 9pm on Saturday night. Beer and wine can be sold after noon on Sunday. Restaurants can serve alcohol as part of a meal after 11am on Sunday.

Based on your screen name, you and I are good after 11 :)

    .

OM Gosh if I were living in Texas and drank I'd quit just to not have to keep up with that morass of alcohol legislation.

  3. The spa services may be a better use of the gift card if you have the time. Here's a sample of spa services many of which cost less than the value of the gift certificate and the Deep Bikini Waxing comes in right at $50:

    Bliss Poetic WAXING Prices

    "Brow" $30

    "Up/Chin" $15

    "Half Arm" $35

    "Underarm" $24

    "Leg" [half & full] $40 or $90

    "Back" $65

    "Chest" $55

    "Bikini" $35

    "Deep Bikini" $50

  4. Yeah, I think the Diamonds are tired of having those lowly Platinums at their parties ;)

Yes and to soothe those Diamonds rough edges Carnival is introducing a new level above Platinum and below Diamond to be called Cubic Zirconium. This new level will bump elbows with the Diamonds at a combined party but will have to pay for their drinks at the cash bar located in a far corner of the venue.

  5. Something not right about this story. CBP could care less who the passenger was, the fine is against the cruise line, so no idea why or if CBP would impose the fine 3 years later.

I must agree, the CBP couldn't care less.
