Your cake sounds like the same one they give for birthdays. We took our son's friend last year and he had a birthday while on the cruise. I did mark it in our Cruise Manager, but he didn't get anything for it. So why give the option to mark it down? I told our MDR waiter that night. They sang happy birthday and gave him a tiny cake. It looked more like a couple macaroons stacked on top of one another, covered in icing or fondant.

This is what we received. Very nice extra that they provided.

When you choose "Anniversary" as your special occasion in your Cruise Manager, they used to give couples a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. I also remember some people saying they'd get a $50 spa gift card. Do they not do any of that anymore?

Last Sept on the Splendor I marked anniversary on our booking and we received a small cake (like 4-bites) at the first dinner and a $12.00 photo gift certificate.

Can you please provide more details regarding the 10% gift card discount through AARP? Is this available to anyone at any time? I'm always looking to save a little money!

You do quizzes on the AARP website and earn points.  You then use those points to buy Carnival gift cards for 10% off.  I bought a $500 gift card for $450.  Every little bit helps.

We are on the Splendor in July.  I have an inside Spa cabin.

Any recommendations for the Splendor, the ports, etc?

Our plans for the ports are:

All inclusive hotel for Cabo (not sure which one yet)

Hike to the lighthouse then Stone Island all inclusive resort for Mazatlan

    Dolphin Discovery for Puerto Vallarta

Enjoy spa amenities!  I'm not big on the steam rooms but those warm tile benches!!  So relaxing!  And it's so nice that you can take the glass elevator up to the spa.

And there is a secret door to the front/outside of deck 10.  I'd order room service and have my coffee outside every morning.  I loved watching the ship come in to port.

Apologies for my wild giggles at the mental picture.

MANY thanks for the warning about floating off the recliner. I now know I might need to sit on the stairs holding on to the railing. I haven't been swimming for ages, so don't remember if I sink or float. I shall find out in November 2020 when I sail the Carnival Splendour. And counting down the days!

The Splendor is my favorite ship and we always book a spa cabin.  Looking forward to our Aug. 31st sail date.  I love the warm benches in one of the rooms.  I stay up there are read for most of the cruise!

@eileen11 I really wanted to enjoy the thalassotherapy pool on the Magic... but I couldn't! I'm not sure when you swim if you're a sinker or a floater- I'm a floater... the pool has these lovely recliners that should allow you to stretch out and relax while the wonderful water floats away all your stress. Except I kept floating off the darned things! I had to brace myself in place which wasn't very comfortable so I ended up sitting on the stairs of the pool while my hubby (a sinker, BTW) relaxed in comfort on the darned lounges!

I'm the same way!  I have to hang on for dear life (especially when the ship was rocking) and the hubby just stays put, relaxing!

Does the ship still have bad mojo from the fire in 2010 ?  We are booked at the end of July on the splendor.  Makes me nervous.

I wasn't going to buy trip insurance, but I think we may need it now.

I was told by the Captain, while taking the Behind the fun Tour on the Splendor in December of 2009 (the cruise when the ship hit the dock in Puerto Vallarta and we had to stay an extra day while they repaired it and we missed Mazatlan) that the ship is cursed.

But it is my favorite Carnival ship!  We sail again on Aug. 31st!  so sad she is leaving Long Beach but also excited for our Jan. 2020 cruise on the new Panorama.  image.png.d2ec6725eb2e3fb61128ec9f191b43d6.png

  9. I just purchased 5 $100 AARP gift cards yesterday to pay off my Aug. 31st cruise and today I received an email that they will be shipped "Signature Required".  I try to save anywhere I can so $50 is awesome.  I will purchase more in a few weeks to use for our Bottomless Bubbles packages and to have money as OBC.
