  1. Yes, aft. It’s huge with a jacuzzi bath and a triple length spacious balcony with 2 comfy loungers, 4 chairs and table. Ideal for your free afternoon balcony tea, panoramic sunsets or just relaxing watching the world sail by. Enjoy!

Ooooh! Gosh, no, we’ve not got that one! Ours is a normal Vista Suite (I think it’s called) Sapphire Princess.

That sounds amazing. We did once have a Q1 on Cunard Queen Victoria.....that was awesome!! [emoji41][emoji38]

  2. Thank you for that information. I think that's the point I'm trying to make. Unfortunately people don't seem to understand quite what I'm getting at. Apart from P&O other companies offer a little extra to their suite passengers. I believe Celebrity offer varying amounts of loyalty points depending on the cabin you book. Why do P&O offer nothing.

You are quite correct. Celebrity offers far more. Yes, it is more expensive but, like you, we feel it is worth it.

We have sailed twice with Celebrity in a Royal Suite and have another 2 cruises booked for next year. After these 2 cruises we are already "Elite" level in their Captain's Club as we get, I think 12 points per night on board, compared with P&O 1 point.....

Also access to Michael's Club and the concierge, complimentary drinks and canapés each evening, all evening (if you wish), but there is also the premium drinks package included so you don't have to drink in there if you prefer another bar....

Also free wifi, laundry, unlimited speciality dining.....

Oh, and Luminae, the suite dining room for all meals, which is excellent quality. Bottle of champagne on embarkation, 2 x litre bottles of spirits plus complimentary wine. Escorted priority disembarkation by the Michael's Club concierge.....

I've probably missed some things. Absolutely top notch. Highly recommend. That's how to make you feel special!

I almost forgot, each time we've sailed with Celebrity we've been on board, champagne in hand, just after 10:30am! 🥂

  3. Thanks for that info. Hope it’s not too obtrusive. We did in OS on Princess with the caveat of a metal support beam causing an obstruction. The balcony was so large, it wasn’t a problem. Hope this is the same!

I think we're in one of those suites on our first Princess cruise in October. Aft?

  4. Those corner suites "connect" to the adjacent room only by a small hallway outside your cabin door. It's actually very nice as you enter this hallway via a door from the main hallway where you enter a vestibule aprox 5' x 10' where the 2 cabin door are. Very private and very quiet.

We also love those corner suites. I believe its only Reflection where the one on deck 6 has a smaller balcony. Some people love the ones on deck 12 as there is some cover above but others don't like them as the outdoor buffet seating is above and there can be some chair noise from above.

We have done deck 7 and 8 and have been very happy. Only downside is you may not see your butler as much as there are only 2 suites on each deck on these lower floors. Of course if you need something you will have their mobile phone number.

I would take any of the aft corner over the mid ship S1 cabins.

We have only sailed in RS on Celebrity, but were potentially interested in an aft S1 for next year. We were told that the corner afts on deck 6 on Silhouette and Eclipse have very narrow balconies.

I believe it is deck 10 corner afts which have the washing thing causing a minor obstruction?

I visited a friend's deck 7 corner aft Sky suite. It was great.

  5. Hi there!

We have cruised in an OS on Navigator and the RS on Freedom both similar ships. The OS is very light and airy. Nice bathroom with separate shower and tub. Spacious lounge/dining area. No issues with RC room design and layout.

Your suite luggage should be prioritised, our experience has been hit and miss although other than on Oasis it has usually arrived within a reasonable time. Many guests will probably have carry on luggage anyway for three days....

The difference you will find is re service levels. If, for example, you book room service it is simply delivered by room service, no course by course as your butler may do for you. Also no afternoon treats.....You can either book your speciality restaurants yourself or ask the concierge to do it for you. Chops is OK, MDR can be quite noisy....

The concierge lounge isn’t large although it is quite comfortable, it can be quite busy. We have had mixed feelings about RC concierges....even when in a RS it has been hit and miss re those little extra treats like bridge tours, being invited to dine with the Captain....

No separate suite restaurant although they open up one of the speciality restaurants for suite guests to take their buffet food to at breakfast and lunch which is better than nothing. They do offer to get eggs etc for you but it is quicker to just sort yourself....A few years now since we have traveled on this class of ship so this could possibly have changed...

The ice shows on these ships are worth a visit. I would say shows generally are better.

There is a suite only area poolside.

These three day cruises can attract more of a ‘party crowd’ rather than a more family mix....Take ear plugs just in case!

We try to take RC for what they offer rather than compare to X although the fact we rarely now cruise RC says something! The ships themselves are attractive and well designed just rather loud and busy rather than the relaxed and restful....They provide a contrasting experience.

Remember the ambiance will be very different to a RC cruise, for example, in the Mediterranean outside school holiday time so consider this re future cruising options...

Hope you have a fantastic cruise!

Thank you! You're always so helpful.

We're going with a completely open mind. It would probably have been wiser to do a week-long cruise as a tester as service levels on the shorter cruises can often be a bit low. We're looking forward to the "fun factor" - ear plugs are a good idea - our cabin is near the lifts so I suppose we might be in a noisier area potentially....

    I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you again for your help and advice. Xx

  6. If this is RC check your Suite category and check this perk applies. We were in a suite (not a Genie one, the top suites are the only ones this perk applies to) and our luggage arrived at 7.50pm....we had boarded at 11.30am.

Hi Chemmo, we're on a short taster cruise from Southampton next weekend on Independence of the Seas. We're in an Owners Suite. I'm feeling very apprehensive about how it will compare to Celebrity! It doesn't really matter as it's only 3 nights, and my expectations are low (being used to Celebrity suite experience) I'm sure we'll have a great time, but...... Have you sailed in a similar suite? If so any info you can share would be great....[emoji4]

  7. I’ve tried searching for information on this but without any success. Can anyone tell me if there are any perks other than a larger room and priority embarkation that come with an Owners Suite?

We have not sailed with RCCL before and I’m rather confused as different classes of ship seem to enjoy very different suite “extras”....

    Thank you in advance.

  8. Cranston and Margaret are in MC on the current sailing. Margaret remembered friends sailing with us that were also on in March. She immediately brought them the drinks they always had on the previous sailing. She is outstanding!

She really is. I hope she is still there when we're back on Silhouette next September.

  9. I’m currently onboard the Silhouette. We have enjoyed Michaels Club and their bar service has been great. We have been offered small “appetizers” each night (probably what was offered during tea time). The space has never been more than 20% full (if that) while we were there usually from 6-8 pm.

Say “ciao bello” to Dario and tell beautiful Margaret that Mrs Bling Bling sends her big hugs!!

We had great fun in Michael’s on our recent Silhouette cruise. [emoji8]

  10. Hi there! Thank you for looking at your photos. I tried google searching The Standard but I can’t seem to find anything on google or Trip Advisor? Do you have any other info or name the Restaurant might be under so I can find it?

Hi again, that is strange. I've just googled The Standard, Copenhagen and it's the top listing....the restaurant we went to was Studio. [emoji846]

  11. Hi, I would love to know the name of the place if you can find out! I’m cruising out of Copenhagen this summer and hoping to enjoy a nice lunch in the Nyhavn area like you mentioned!

    Morning.

Ok, I’ve had a look at my photos and it was a place called The Standard. There were a few restaurants in the building and the one we ate in was the very relaxed one on the right of the building as you look at it with your back to the canal. Ground floor.

We only had a small meal and a couple of beers and I think it was about the equivalent of £25 in total.

It was not actually in Nyhavn but the equally pretty approach along the canal.

  12. Do you think the same is true in Copenhagen?

In Copenhagen we wandered along from the city centre to Nyhavn and enjoyed a very reasonable and absolutely delicious lunch with beer along the canal front.

There were lots of restaurants and bars. I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the place, but if you would really like to know I can probably find out by going back to my photographs....

    Let me know. [emoji4]

  13. Hi,

I booked a restaurant during Midsummer Eve Holiday. I received an email today that they will be closed that day. I was wondering if the majority of restaurants will be closed during this time.

Hi, we visited a couple of years ago on Midsummer's Eve/Day (whichever is their major celebration) and pretty much all the shops were shut. Most cafes etc were, however, open.

    Hope this helps. [emoji4]

Thank you so much for posting this. We are on Silhouette in May and I'm so looking forward to The Porch. Our only other X cruise was on Eclipse and there is no Porch on her, so this is great. Looks as though there are good healthy choices too for my pernickety hubby!! [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]

  15. Could I solicit the thoughts of anyone who has experienced both - on the differences, positives and negatives of the experiences. Are they comparable?

We have done the latter three times on S class ships and now have taken the plunge and booked a first cruise with Cunard on Q.V. for October.

Any tips on getting the best out of the QG experience or indeed if there are any things to watch out for/avoid we would appreciate it ( forewarned is forearmed)

    Thanks

    Hi Scifimonkey,

We have sailed in QG on QV and a Royal Suite on Celebrity. Both lines only once, we are on X Silhouette again in May.

Both experiences were great, but for us, Celebrity had the edge (excuse the pun!).

    Cunard

Embarkation was smooth and quick. We were greeted by our butler and taken to our cabin. Then had lunch in the QG restaurant.

We were in a Q1 and the room was amazing, the balcony was enormous - best balcony EVER!!

Service on Cunard was the best service we have experienced. The Grills restaurant was very nice and the food was mostly excellent. The Maitre 'd (Sandro) and his 2ic (I think Eduardo?) were brilliant as were our waiters.

Speciality dining - we did not try. Apart from the pub and buffet, there was only one alternative dining venue (correct me if I'm wrong) and the menu just did not appeal, luckily the food in the restaurant was good enough for this to not be a problem.

Our butler, Romil, was excellent and when requested he would bring no us the hot canapés from the Grills lounge instead of the cold canapés (although I seem to remember the normal canapés were also good, but the hot ones were delicious!)

The Grills lounge was good but rather small and it could be tricky finding somewhere to sit for both pre-dinner drinks and afternoon tea.

The Grills courtyard was sublime and a gorgeous space to eat al fresco when the weather allowed.

The Grills decks I didn't use very much due to being lucky enough to have such a huge balcony.

Entertainment - we found the ship very quiet. Plenty of ballroom dancing though if that's your thing, it was certainly fun to watch.

    Celebrity

Embarkation - we were greeted in the terminal by the MC host and escorted on to the ship and straight to Michael's Club to enjoy nibbles. We did both these cruises in 2015 and the 'suite life' or whatever they call it, had just been rolled out so I'll be interested to see how this is different on our cruise next month.

The suite was beautiful and, as Cruiseluva says, very modern with clean lines and plenty of space. The room is midships so a side balcony this time (we do prefer the aft) but still large - there is a bath on the balcony, which is a nice idea, but I would rather have had the extra space, especially on a Baltic cruise! Due to the bath there was only one sun lounger, which, again, was fine on this cruise as sunbathing opportunities were few and far between. I believe you can request an extra lounger if required.

Service was excellent, the MC concierge was especially helpful and ever-present. There were lots of nice touches - invitations to various events in MC and helipad sail away. Cruiseluva is also correct that MC is a little gloomy, but as we only really used it in the evenings we didn't find that a problem.

Luminae was very good, but QG was better. Luminae did serve the best burger I have ever tasted though......

Speciality dining - the best food I have eaten on any ship, ever. Tuscan Grill - delicious and fantastic views from the aft.

Q'sine - great fun with friends

    Murano - wow.

Buffet - another big win for X. Very impressive. Great selection.

Entertainment- Celebrity wins. We found MC extremely convivial for pre and post dinner drinks. The bar staff were great and would bring your regular drinks as soon as you sat down. The Captain would occasionally be in there mingling with guests. I would say the evening entertainment was biased to a younger crowd - focussed more on bars and dancing than the ballroom focus of Cunard (absolutely nothing wrong with that - horses for courses)

For us Celebrity was somehow more conducive to meeting other guests and the atmosphere on board was more relaxed. We made some great friends on this cruise who we are still in regular contact with.

It's hard to put my finger on exactly why we preferred Celebrity, perhaps we just found Celebrity more sociable?

At the time we sailed, Celebrity still had the formal evenings so similar dress codes.

  16. I hope that the rocking ship did not make you feel queasy after your breakfast. It is wonderful to read a blog from someone who is on the Silhouette now, we are going to be sailing on her in just over a month's time, firstly on the Bravo Cruise and then on the Baltic. Someone said that Sue Denning is the cruise director at the moment.

Hope you enjoy yourself. We are imagining ourselves on the cruise too, looking forward to ours in 4-5 weeks.

We're on the Baltic cruise with you. Very jealous of your back 2 back. You will feel very smug staying on board as everyone else disembarks at Southampton.

I'm enjoying this thread too in anticipation of our first Silhouette Cruise in May....[emoji51]

  17. Dependant on where you are docking Pete have you thought about having an early morning run

    over there if possible ?

On our recent cruise whilst having a early morning cuppa on our balcony docked in Madeira we saw a guy get off and go running .

The next time we saw him was at Lanzarote which had a massive almost empty car park between our berth and a marina .

He used it as a running track for about 30 minutes.

Later that afternoon running became popular with a good 3 or 4 groups of latecomers .

Ships passengers cheering them back on board but from what I could see the early morning runner did not take part in this event .;p

Kalos beat me to it! On our Ventura cruise last November I did exactly what Kalos suggests. I ran in Alicante, Cadiz and Gibraltar and it was fab. I wish I'd thought of it earlier as we had already visited Lisbon and Valencia.

We're sailing to the Baltic in May and I'm intending to run in all the ports as soon as the ship docks.......then come back and eat my body weight in croissants!!! [emoji23]🤣

  18. Yes - do this with an open mind. We've done mostly RCI cruises in our 25 cruises to date and we compare any cruise on another line to that but we try to do it AFTER the cruise. We experience the cruise on another line for what it is, enjoy the differences and anything that we might not like we park for discussion after the cruise. Having said that, our first Celebrity cruise is coming up this fall on the Infinity and we're really looking forward to this. We too will do this with an open mind but I'm already looking forward to the food and service which I understand is a notch above RCI.

    Enjoy your cruise.

The cabin we we wanted has now been sold. We really wanted a cabin in the category above but they were sold out too. So we've decided to take our little furry four-legged friend on holiday in the UK instead on this occasion!

I've decided our next cruise will almost certainly be on RCCL having done some research and I'm keeping my fingers crossed we might get a Quantum class ship sailing out of Southampton at some point soon. 🤞🏻[emoji4]
