I'm only going to be in Rome from noon Saturday to Monday when we board a cruise.

Just trying to figure if I should get some shopping in on Saturday if most of the stores are closed on Sunday.

Wondering if during December the stores stay open on Sundays. Particularly around Pantheon and Spanish Steps

I am going on this same cruise on Dec. 9th with my daughter, her best friend from college and her mother. My daughter and I have never been to Europe so we are very excited. Friends mom is a travel agent so she has experience here. We are doing a cruise tour in Marsielle and Malta, a private tour she arranged in Genoa, DYI in Barcelona and Palermo. My daughter wants to go to the catacombs in Palermo so maybe we will just take a cab from the port. We are staying at Hotel ****onale 2 nights pre cruise in Rome. It has very good reviews and is in a great location to walk around. We also have a private Vatican tour booked before we embark on cruise. This was a must see for me and since we don't have to board till late in the afternoon this worked out great.

We booked this cruise sometime ago so I have been on CC a lot. Not many Americans on MSC boards except for Divina out of a Florida. I have to say the reviews have been mostly positive on this ship. Pete above has a lot of good information. I have been checking weather and it appears to be much warmer than NJ now. I am bringing one of those packable coats in case it is cold. But I'm thinking my spring/fall quilted jacket is going to feel fine. As far as cell goes I think I am going with Verizon's 10.00 per day. Only charged daily rate if you use the phone. I probably will not use the phone much during the cruise but I would like to have it in the event I need it. My husband is a little nervous about this trip. He is a US traveler. No interest in going to Europe. Any tips you have for us is appreciated. Thank you

In Rome the hotel has wifi so I will probably use ipad there.

I agree on vacation but this is my first time out of the country without my husband so he does want me connected.

I think the verizon monthly is a tad different than the daily rate. I don't know how to add a pic or I would have shown you the info from the website.

I'm still thinking about which plan.

Was wondering what others do about cell phone use when they out of the country.

Will be on msc splendida in a few weeks. Would like to use my phone in rome and in ports. I just checked international calling plans with verizon. 10.00 per day only if you use it or 40.00 for the month. Msc splendida was not on Verizon's list so I guess I can't use it on the ship

My husband and I are looking into cruises to Alaska for next year. This will be our first time. You seem to have a lot of experience with many Alaska cruises. Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thinking of flying into Seattle. We set from NJ. Only cruised once with Princess to carribean quite some time ago.

I am interested in walking around Valletta and going to Mdina for my port day along with a nice lunch. Am concerned about non paved roads so cruise is recommending a jeep tour. Not sure if I'm going to like a bumpy ride around in December. What do you suggest? Would another type of excursion be better? Would be me and my daughter who is 30

So it is our first time to Barcelona. We were thinking of doing the hoho bus and getting off at Sagrada Familia for our time slot? Or would we do better with a cab. We want to walk around las ramblass too. Thanks for your help
