  1. Just received a notification Carnival is not accepting our proxy statement as proof of share ownership because it is not dated within their three month window.  Since we only receive this annually that limits its application. Not a positive view for us re Carnival.

Princess has accepted our proxy statement with no problem.

  2. Considering Princess Platinum Insurance.

My understanding from reading the provisions of the plan is that with regards to pre existing coverage I need to pay for the plan to activate the effective date.  That way, if I get a prexisting condition before the cruise but after the effective date, I am covered?

Also, if I should cancel the cruise before final payment, would I receive a refund for the Platinum insurance?

    thanks for your help.

  3. Also be careful if you are on a cruise that is sold both as a back to back and a single cruise.  We were on the single sold cruise and when we were charged three times for unordered drinks and complained to the pursers desk we were told the error happened on the first leg and accounts had been closed off.

After a great deal of back and forth and insistence on our part, we did receive a credit.

  4. Not surprised in the least at the masking order. On our northbound portion of the Grand to Alaska on May 11 masking was perhaps at 60% in all venues on the ship.  On the southbound May 18 trip on the Grand mask wearing was perhaps at 2%.  By the end of the May 18 cruise coughing and sneezing was everywhere.  Venues such as the Explorer lounge were often standing room only, social distancing and surface cleaning (except for the Horizon) did not exist, elevators were often at capacity. There was a delay at disembarkation and everyone had been funnelled into hallways and lounges in close proximity.

We did have a change of 800 passengers in Whittier May 18, many of them had come from the Denali portion, so perhaps Covid had been incubating with that group?

  5. Just returned from the Grand Princess Alaska.  We are totally fed up with the Princess Medallion app.  So many problems and changes to the system.

Haven't sailed with HAL for a few years and my question is:  do they have a similar program or is it still just the card for cabin entry and purchases?

  6. Just got an email from the B.C. Switch health clinic cancelling our antigen test appointment due to “unforseen” circumstances and that in clinic appointments are no longer available until May 13.

not happy with them at all!

  7. This may help (from princess’ FAQ “after you sail”)

If my home country requires proof of a negative COVID-19 test result for re-entry following my cruise, will Princess administer and cover the cost of the test?

Yes, if a negative COVID-19 test is required for re-entry into your home country, Princess will cover the costs of a COVID-19 test administered within the timeframe required prior to travel.

Guests should disembark the ship, collect their luggage, clear customs and exit the terminal for testing. Subject to availability, COVID-19 tests will be administered within or just outside the terminal. Antigen test results are available in approximately 30 minutes and PCR test results are available in approximately 60 minutes. Plan your post-cruise travel arrangements accordingly.

We encourage guests to review their home country’s health authority and travel websites for the latest guidance on required testing and timing for return travel.

If guests would prefer to have the required test completed while still on board, Princess has partnered with Optum so that before traveling to the ship U.S.-based vaccinated guests can order an FDA-authorized at-home antigen test kit, shipped to their homes in three business days or less. Guests can take these tests on the ship, using MedallionNet to complete the required, video-supervised visit with an eMed Certified Guide through telehealth services. These guides help administer the test and verify the results, usually within 15 minutes. The lab result report is delivered by email and can be printed or displayed on your mobile device during check-in. Please place your order with enough time to receive the test at home before going to the ship. Order your test kit online.

  8. I agree with the majority of folks on this subject.  We are sailing Alaska for  two weeks next month and apprehensively looking forward to it.   Right now I am more stressed with getting all the prelim. requirements for the cruise done than the covid exposure thing.

We have been extremely careful for the last two years re Covid; we have gotten all our shots, have avoided crowded areas diligently, celebrated outdoors and on and on.  Covid has taken so much from us in so many ways.  We are now in a spot where we have had enough…we will still be as careful as we can and do what we can to prevent infection but life needs to go on.  And I am SO sick of cooking!!

Our provincial Public Health Officer here has basically advised that everyone get their shots and then do a personal risk assessment re covid and then get on with life in a way that is acceptable to you.  She has led us through this very carefully and well and we will follow her advice.

Hope OP that you do whatever you feel is right for you.

Princess will give a test on the pier at no charge when we get off the ship in Vancouver. Are they responsible for quarantine if we test positive? Agent didn't know ( or wouldn't answer). I know it didn't used to be nearly this complicated

Hi gubby…where did you get the above info?  I didnt think testing was required to enter Canada upon returning from a cruise or land

  10. BCAA had (maybe still does) coverage for pre existing condition with I think a limit on coverage of up to $300,000.  Premium is high but you can reduce it by increasing your deductible.  We no longer are with BCAA so things may have changed.  You would need to talk to an advisor to ensure your situation is covered.  Good luck

Entering or leaving Canada by cruise ship during COVID-19

Travellers entering Canada must follow the rules set out by the Emergency Orders under the Quarantine Act and Interim Orders under the Canada Shipping Act to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.

These measures also apply to those joining vessels from within Canada that will go into international waters.

    Before boarding the ship

All travellers must be fully vaccinated with limited exemptions.

    Take a pre-embarkation COVID-19 test.

Use ArriveCAN to enter your information, including proof of vaccination, within 72 hours before embarkation of your cruise.

Contact your cruise line about their boarding policies.

You must have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

    On arrival to Canada

Have your ArriveCAN receipt and proof of vaccination, and be sure to have the information available for 14 days after your arrival in Canada.

    …………….

Given the above I understand I need to complete Arrivecan BEFORE embarking in Vancouver.   The last sentence above seems to imply that I use THAT embarkation receipt when I return to Vancouver from my Alaska round trip.  Or do I need to complete another one within72 hour of my return?

Lastly, I called ArriveCAN, citing the 2 references above and asked if the first HAL reference is cruise line specific and if the second reference was correct.  And I mentioned this is for a Canadian embarking a cruise ship in a Canadian port, Vancouver, on a closed loop cruise, starting and ending in Vancouver after travelling to Alaska.   After 5 minutes on hold, she came back and quoted me the following from her ArriveCAN data base:

"Cruise ship travellers must present an ArriveCAN receipt to the cruise line operator upon boarding including for cruises whose departure and final destination are Canada."

Hopefully this will be my last question.

So from the above interpretation does this mean that upon receiving the ArriveCan app receipt for embarking on the cruise in Vancouver I use this receipt again for CBSA for disembarkation in Vancouver two weeks later (which doesn't seem logical).  Or, do I need to make another submission 72 hours before arriving back in Vancouver.

Princess is not asking for ArriveCan proof on embarkation as far as I could discover.

  13. Just got off the phone with the ArriveCan help line.

e.g. An Alaskan round trip from Vancouver

As a Canadian, leaving from Canada and embarking on a cruise ship you do NOT need to submit an ArriveCan application (you can still load up your vax info/passport info ahead of time). Makes sense since in order to submit you need to be within 72 hours of arriving  back into Canada and the app wont allow completion and submission until you are in that range.

Before the cruise returns to Canada to disembark you must submit your completed Arrive Can within 72 hours of arrival.  So that would mean you might have to complete and submit in a U.S. port or using  cruise ship internet.

Also, to answer your question, yes, you must enter your info in the ArriveCAN app or website within 72 hours of embarking/originating your cruise in Canada, in this case, Vancouver. And same when you come back to Vancouver as you have left Canada, travelled to the USA, and are coming back to Canada

With reference to your first sentence above:  We live in B.C. and will be embarking in Vancouver.  I have filled out the ArriveCan app with the information required up to the point where you enter your date and time of return to Canada.  Beyond that point you need to wait until you are within 72 hours of disembarking and returning to Canada and then you can complete and submit your info.  Why would you need to submit info upon embarking and leaving Canada?

  15. This (from the GOC website) is confusing to me:

“You'll need to submit your information within 72 hours before your arrival to Canada.

    If travelling by marine vessel

If you're travelling by marine vessel, you must use ArriveCAN before orupon entering Canada; this is to accommodate for Wi-Fi issues on the water.”

Does this mean that on returning to Canada from a cruise I submit my information while on land at our last U.S. port or after we disembark the cruise in Canada but not while on the ship?

And what about those who do not have WiFi capabilities.

  16. Atexsix: If your Dad is in a wheelchair it might be better to avoid the deck 6 aft dining room.  During meal times the elevators here to get down to deck 6 get very crowded.  The other dining rooms are smaller and easier to get to.

    CalTex:

Almost everything is now done on the Medallion app including dining reservations, check in, security photo and more.  You start by downloading the app and then go from there.  If you are lucky all will go well with the app, BUT it is not unusual for it to go very wrong.  If so you need to phone the Princess tech guy or perhaps just show up at the pier and Princess will handle everything for you.  Good Luck.
