  1. Atexsix: If your Dad is in a wheelchair it might be better to avoid the deck 6 aft dining room.  During meal times the elevators here to get down to deck 6 get very crowded.  The other dining rooms are smaller and easier to get to.

    CalTex:

Almost everything is now done on the Medallion app including dining reservations, check in, security photo and more.  You start by downloading the app and then go from there.  If you are lucky all will go well with the app, BUT it is not unusual for it to go very wrong.  If so you need to phone the Princess tech guy or perhaps just show up at the pier and Princess will handle everything for you.  Good Luck.

  2. Do the PVPs get a benefit (ie a commission) if you book with them rather than at the Princess 800 number?  I have a PVP who has not really been satisfactory (no response or slow responses to my emails) so I have been doing my bookings and queries about problems on line or by 800 number.  He is pretty good about sending me emails about world cruises tho!

  3. Friends have not had any luck with the Medallion app (is just constantly “loading”).

They have been able to load data for the primary (wife) on the website version but not the husband (same booking number)  Could this be an issue with their ipad?

their phones are not smart.  They are our travel companions and both of them show up as such on OUR medallion app.

Any thoughts?  I ask here because most of my Princess issues have been solved through cruise critic by the helpful people here.  They will phone Princess tech but hold times lately are ridiculous.

    Thanks

  4. If we are designated Princess arrival time A in our case 10:30, would we be allowed onto the ship around that time or have to wait until noon as before?

thanks for your help, trying to determine if we should change our arrival time to later.

  6. Too many unknowns:

For the Alaska cruises Vancouver return, does that mean the cruise line will do testing on board or will passengers have to hunt for tests in Ketchikan or Juneau?

And if you test positive on board just before disembarkation the Cdn government would have no choice but to let you in and quarantine in Vancouver?  The ship sure wont take you back!

I was hoping for a removal of testing altogether.😟

  7. And then what would they do if you had tested positive on the ship? Dont think the ship would let you stay on and remaining out of Canada for 11 days after testing positive is not a possibility either. IF you give positive cruise passengers an exception then land crossers should not be held to the 11 day rule either.  Ludicrous situation.

I would love to take advantage of the amazing deals HAL is offering to Alaska right now but no way until testing is completely gone.

  8. As of February 11, covid testing will no longer be required for entry to England if double vaxed.  Bodes  well for our cruise from England next year.  However for us we would need all testing to end as well.  Still hoping.

Saw this on CTV  and BBC news.  Sorry I dont know how to present a link here.

  9. This Canadian based board is my solace.  I miss cruising terribly but am thankful for the many cruises we have taken.

This board and all the wonderful people posting have clarified so many things for me…new border rules, new cruising rules, links to mask info (just purchased some recommended here) and more.  Thank you.

For many reasons we are not ready to cruise yet but I check here every day to keep my hopes up and to be prepared when we can.  The Canadian perspective is also very important and appreciated.

Merry Christmas to you all and be well.

  10. We have also done Alaska several times on both lines.

For us its HAL hands down for Alaska even though we generally sail Princess for other itineraries.  HAL generally sails inside passage and we would never consider a sail on the west coast of Van Island for the reasons given by others.  Inside passage is not to be missed.

HAL has better presentations and guides at the glaciers as well. (Hopefully they will still be on board).  Better viewing opportunities on HAL ships, lovely wrap around decks

  11. Thanks, ItsWineOclock.  Just checked our personal (not a company plan)SunLife policy and we are also covered for Covid Medical under our extended health coverage.  Something I hadn’t known!

No cancellation or trip interruption though with Sun Life

We generally purchase cancel for any reason with Princess or HAL when we cruise with them to cover that.
