  1. Hi all.. I'm a U.S. citizen traveling on an NCL cruise beginning/ending in NYC and visiting Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. My question is: are cruise passengers required to get a Visa for this port? From what I'm seeing online if your stay is less than 30 days....its not required but I am looking to hear about recent experiences travelling there on this cruise to read what others have experienced. All other ports on this itinerary look fine except for this one. Thanks in advance.

did you go on your cruise yet, and did you go to Emotion?  I'm stopping in Puerto Plata in January and I'm looking at this excursion.

Hi there....no we do not go on our cruise until February. But since I last posted I've decided to book with NCL excursion called "Puerto Plata Highlights and Beach Escape. So, we will get to see a few touristy sights and a popular beach and have a little time left to enjoy and shop a bit at the port.

  4. I was guessing based the itinerary listed on the printout by NCL that says Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata....but  regardless of my starting point......I was curious if anyone had a recent experience with local day pass at a resort.  Im in the figuring out stage as to what we want to do beyond the port. We will of course check out what Taino has to offer. I'm looking at youtube video's of it at present and it looks really nice. Have you been to Taino?

  5.      I  am arriving via the NCL getaway in Puerto Plata (Im guessing Amber Cove) and I am looking to book an all-inclusive resort day pass. The one offered by NCL is Emotion by Hodelpa Puerto Plata is 169 per person but I do see if I go independently there are two other resorts that look equally interesting. One is Viva Wyndham V heaven, which includes drinks, food $60 per person and the other is playa Bachata spa and resort. I don’t have a price on that one as of yet.
I’m curious if any other cruisers have went to any of the above resorts mentioned and how was your experience there? We dock at 7 am a most resorts don’t open for day pass till 10 am…so at best we’ll have  3 1/2 hrs till we need to depart back to the port.
Just looking to hear about other people’s experiences……thank you.

p.s. I am aware there is a forum for Dominican Republic questions...but it appears many posted questions that go there are left unanswered. Im hoping to have better luck here.

    Thanks everyone....

Lemon Drop Martini with Norwegian Cruise Line 66 Gin

I like my Lemon Drop Martinis with Gin and NCL 66 is a very tasty gin. Thanks for the recommendation.

looks delish........when we were on Epic from 2/19-2/26 aside from Martini's, Mojitos etc....I acquired a fondness for the Aperol Spritz which I had seen another woman sipping on. I enjoyed its light and refreshing qualities.  I'm enjoying your review immensely......

Meeeeeeeeeeee too! I very quickly went to my account and changed the setting that had email notifications checked (I've never checked that). I only get emails from Cruise Critic when I'm on the naughty list or get my "live" badge.

The emails have now gone away since I changed the settings.

Yes, that was very odd. I had noticed the other day that the Cruise Critic site was updating itself and Im guessing thats what caused it,......but glad I was able to change the settings back.

  9. Hi. We're thinking of going to Riu. We arrive via cruise ship and are there for the day from 9- 5pm. I was hoping do a tour for 3hrs or so and then go to the resort. But I'd hate to only spend 3hrs or so at the resort for that price. Im torn what to do..........(but Im leaning towards just spending the day totally at the resort). Is any one else doing an Aruba tour first and then go to the resort?

  10. Hi.........can anyone who has recently got off an NCL ship at the Aruba port who "does not have a passport" let me know if they let you through with just a drivers license and a birth certificate for id.  I know that Aruba is not requiring the ED form to be filled out for cruisers who are just there for the day.  Any help or recent info would be helpful.

    Thanks............
