  1. Thank you! I love planning the details of our trips, so I will be sure to do so. I’ve already zeroed in on eating plans for the day, for example. But nothing I set in stone yet. Oxburgh Hall was built by the Bedingfield family in the 1400’s, and has been in the family ever since. There are still Bedingfields living there currently. Our last name is Beddingfield. My husband’s family has been in the states for a long time, and we’re trying to research when and who emigrated to the US. His grandfather researched as much as he could for decades, before the internet. He often talked about a family “castle” in England. Now, we can’t be sure that we’re related to the family that built the castle, of course. But there is a huge sentimental part of us that wants to visit the “castle” almost in a way to honor his grandfather. Not sure if that makes sense? That is the best way I can describe wanting to visit Oxburgh.
  2. I really wish we had more time in England, but it will be after a short stay in Amsterdam and a 12 night British Isles cruise. So unfortunately we are limited in how much longer we can stay. Part of me says to postpone the Oxburgh Hall visit until another trip. But another part of me really wants to go for it. And then we can plan another trip one day to explore more of the countryside. i do think the train to Downham Market and taxi will be our best option. Thank you for your help!
  3. Yes, this will be only a day trip. I will check into the idea of renting a car in a less crowded area than downtown London as a possibility. I did find this information on the National Trust website just now that may be helpful with prebooking taxis if we choose to go the train/taxi route. https://www.goodjourney.org.uk/attractions/oxburgh-estate/
  4. Thank you for the quick reply! I definitely will look into this route. We don’t have much public transportation options in our area as well. Normally we would rent a car, but we’re a little nervous about driving in London and on the other side of the road.
  5. Our family would love to see the “family” castle, Oxburgh Hall/Estate in King’s Lynn. What public transportation options are there to get from London to King’s Lynn? Bus? Train? When I try to use Google Maps to find a route using public transportation it tells me it can’t calculate the directions. I was hoping my CC friends could help me out!
  6. We ended up booking a flight from Amsterdam to London on British Airways. Our cruise is out of Amsterdam, so the train from Rotterdam wouldn’t work for us. I’m hoping we will get to enjoy the Eurostar experience in 2025, when we cruise again in Europe. Hoping to do a day in Paris and a day at Disneyland Paris after that cruise.
  7. Thanks, that is very good to hear! It looked like a lot of restaurants are close by too.
  8. Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your tips!
  9. Well, I ended up booking a room at The Resident Covent Garden. It was a struggle to find a room to fit 3 adults, and I liked their junior suite option. Saved a bit of money by becoming a member. I hope we like the location and the hotel. I feel like I’ve looked at thousands of options and I’m just thankful it’s a decision that’s been made. On to the next planning task! Thank you to everyone for your input and advice.
  10. Thank you! I am so excited to give our daughter her souvenir ticket box for Christmas! I think it will be her favorite gift!
  11. Thanks for the tips! I bought tickets so I can give my daughter hers (I ordered the souvenir ticket and gift box for her) for Christmas. I got section G Row A. I hope that’s not too close!
  12. I just found out that Eurostar will not be running from Amsterdam to London next June. This was our plan to get to London after our cruise. What would be the best option now?
  13. Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely look into it! We do have a good amount of points banked up.
  14. Did you enjoy the show? Seems to be an AI experience, correct? I figured we would go since our daughter really seemed excited about it. We all love ABBA and enjoyed Mama Mia. I think hubby and I saw the show in Detroit before our daughter was even born lol. Thanks for the travel tips!
  15. You’re welcome! I love ABBA too, but had no idea this show existed until my 20 year old said she really wanted to see it! We have our tickets too!
  16. Yes, we don’t plan to be there much, as there is so much to try to squeeze in with this quick trip. I just want it to be centrally located, easy to get to transportation options.
  17. We will be there after a cruise in June. I know technically I could put our college age daughter in her own room, but we would rather have her with us than by herself. But it certainly isn’t easy to find rooms for 3, is it? We are trying to stay in Covent Garden area, but I’m not sure if the articles I read that recommended this are the most accurate. And it seems there are many neighborhoods that are close to many tourist attractions. I’m just not sure where we should stay.
  18. Thank you for your advice. We don’t always stay at Marriotts, but they’re brands/partner hotels. Our 3 nights in London are the tail end of an almost 3 week trip, so I’m just attempting to be a little budget conscious at this point lol.
  19. The website did say it was redesigned. It looked nice in the pictures but not sure after reading the posts here if I would chance it.
  20. I was hoping to find a 3 night stay for around $1000 (£270 night?). The challenge has been rooms that fit the 3 of us.
  21. We are looking for hotels that are convenient for sightseeing on our first trip to London, that won’t break the bank and have rooms that can accommodate a family of 3 adults. I’ve found a Travelodge at 10 Drury Lane, High Holborn, London, UK. We’ve never stayed at an Econolodge, tend to stay at Marriott brand hotels. Any one know about this hotel? Is the location good? Any other recommendations? https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/318/London-Central-Covent-Garden-hotel?utm_source=google&utm_medium=GHA_Organic&utm_campaign=GHA_London Central Covent Garden
  22. Thank you for the advice. I’m actually looking at some hotels now. Seems there are a few more options for our family in London hotels than I found in Amsterdam.
  23. Thank you! Yes, it’s a little daunting. I will have to study the London tube and DLR resources to learn as much as I can before we go!
