  1. I am flying from Boston to London for an cruise out of Southampton. I have narrowed down the choices to the following:

Premium Economy on British Airways/ American airlines for 1190.

Business Class on Delta/ virgin atlantic for $2695.

I am on the heavier side and cannot bear the thought of a flight longer than 3 hours in regular economy tickets. I have frequent flyer miles on both American Airlines and Delta but not yet enough for an award ticket. I am not sure which would be the more comfortable trip for the money. I am tempted to go for business class but from reading reviews think that maybe the premium economy would be sufficient. Has anyone flown both and can give me some advice?

I am in almost the same situation. I will be flying back from London to Los Angeles. Long haul flights can be so miserable. I have flown PE on Virgin and it was ok. The business class maybe worth the extra $$. I will follow, this post.

  2. Go for a Premium Deluxe Balcony in the aft of the ship, big balconies plus great views.

If your going to be out on deck taking in the views why not from your own balcony?

In my opinion Alaska is the best place to have a balcony. It is not that cold that you will freeze. The land is very beautiful.

Personally, I would get a mini suite with a balcony.

  3. Just wondering if Princess has formal nights on their 7 day Alaska cruises? We will already be taking a lot of heavy clothing for the cold weather, so didn't really want to pack formal clothes that would take up extra space in the suit cases if it's something that Princess doesn't do on that itinerary.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

The formal nights are not that formal in Alaska. A nice pair of slacks and shirt are fine for everyone.

  4. It appears that there are no upgraded bath amenities ..There was a thread last year where people reported despite the wording for a mini-suite they received nothing different than the balcony rooms received. Some said the towels were upgraded and others said they were of the quality they use at home in the garage.

Years ago you received little bottles of conditoner, shampoo and lotion rather than paper packets but that all changed when the bottles of shower gel and shampoo/condition were placed in the rooms. Possibly someone need to change the description of Mini-Suites.

..if Elite in any cabin you get a little bag containing shower cap, emery board, mitt, eye gel mask, lip balm and linen mist. In addition we received hair condition and multiple tubes of lotion as we used them. No shampoo.

I am glad you mentioned Elite. I am Elite and in mini suites so I thought the little bag was the ever improved fancy amenities for mini suite. Opps1

    Thanks

  5. Wondering our platinum minutes are affected in anyway.

The only decent perk for me being Elite is the free internet minutes. I dont need someone washing my clothes for me, although i know a lot people enjoy that perk. Maybe it is because I don't want anyone to see my ratty comfy underwear.

  6. I have cruised mostly on Princess. As someone else stated I also really enjoy the Movies under the stars. Princess also has the Princess Air option. They offer reduced air fares for most US based airlines and they are refundable and/or payable by the due date of air fare. Does NCL have anything like this? I know RCL does. Thanks

  7. When I travel solo my TA requests that I sit with other singles. I use set time dinning. Sometimes it works out really well other times no so well. Any time timing gives you a chance of meeting different groups.

  8. I did it for a MSC cruise in February. After I made the final payment i called their reservation desk, i had to scan them a copy of my Princess CC account. Almost everyday I received something, drink coupons, bottles of wine, chocolate cover strawberrys etc

  9. For your London flight, consider an airline that has a daytime flight. You could book LAS-IAD-LHR on UA. Fly the LAS-IAD leg the day before, and take UA #122 the next morning for IAD-LHR. This flight leaves at 8:30 am and arrives at 8:55 pm. It's just a little over seven hours. For me, this is much easier than taking a red eye, arriving at the crack of dawn and having to wait hours to check into your hotel.

You have to pay for a hotel at Dulles, but you can do this fairly cheaply.

    That is an interesting idea.
