  1. mmclaughlin - I have to agree with bookbabe! I've been to GC twice - once with my adult daughter and once with my husband. Both times we booked with Native Way Watersports to go out to Stingray City Sandbar. It was great! One of the times we went to a place where you could snorkel to see starfish and once to a small beach (island?) where you could walk and see starfish in shallow water. Both times were great with small groups - much better than booking through the cruiseline.

You sound like you have Roatan & Belize already figured out but I have done these 2 excursions twice also and recommend them:

Roatan - Zip and Dip with South Shore Zipline

    Belize - Cave Tubing w/lunch with cavetubing.bz

I second Nativeway. We just did the Rays, Reef and Rum Point excursion and had a blast. Did Sting Ray City, then about an hour of snorkeling. Then a quick stop at Stingray Point, the in to Ru, Point for a couple of hours. Not AI, but lunch at Rum Point was included.

  2. Check Southwest into HOU (they don't fly into IAH and they don't show up on Travelocity). As an example, I plugged in an August round trip and could get you to Houston and back for less than $250 per person.

  3. Carnival did lose their bag. They then found the bag. That's often how the "lost and found" process works. ;)

You are also extremely factually incorrect that this compensation for delays isn't the standard in the airline industry. In fact, the US Department of Travel itself issued a directive making penalties against airlines more strict in terms of having to compensate customers for not just permanently lost luggage, but also delayed luggage.

    https://www.airfarewatchdog.com/blog/10505773/guidance-on-reimbursement-of-passenger-expenses-incurred-as-result-of-lost-damaged-or-delayed-baggage/

Now that you've educated yourself, consider the fact that this is a cruise instead of an airline, which makes the situation even worse. At least when you land somewhere on an airplane without your baggage, you have more options to replace whatever is missing, like clothes in this case. These customers had virtually no shopping options for 5 days since they were quarantined on a boat.

EDIT: I want to add one more thing. Carnival doesn't seem to have a blanket policy of not compensating their customers for "ruined" vacations, at least, as long as there isn't press about it. You know, the Carnival customers who were in the flooded cabins on the Dream were given a full refund of the cruise plus 50% off their next cruise. According to Carnival, it took 6 hours from the time the flood began to when they dried out out the carpets so the affected cruisers could return to their cabin. This, to me, is far from a "ruined vacation". Let me tell you something, I would much rather be out of my cabin for 6 hours and get compensated a full cruise and a half than be without my luggage for almost the entire cruise (which would ruin the experience for me), get no refund, and only get 20% off my next one. The difference in Carnival's reaction, of course, stems from the negative press Carnival got for the flood... So I would say the OP is very much doing the right thing by making a stink out of it. It seems like it's an effective way to get Carnival to make amends for its mistakes.

Technically, the airlines only owe you what you have to purchase due to the delay, up to the maximum (now $3400). We’re talking actual expenses, not “frustration” or “inconvenience”. (Not taking sides here, just clarifying what the airline industry standard is.) In this situation, if OP incurred any actual expense because of the temporary delay Carnival should cover that. (If we are to hold them to airline standards. However, OP actually had trouble spending money to fix the problem, as there just wasn’t anything to be bought.

The future cruise discount seems to be the offer of compensation for inconvenience. OP does not find that offer to be very satisfying (I can understand that). Why CC wants to consistently expect people to be satisfied with only the bare legal requirement is something I don’t quite understand. (I.e., “they can change ports and you should be happy” or “your cruise contract says ....”). In the other hand, why people also seem to think they are entitled to compensation for every little inconvenience mystifies me as well. (NOT SAYING OP’s SITUATION IS A “LITTLE INCONVENIENCE”).

  4. At the risk of sounding crude....thinking a crew member is “sincerely appreciative” of candy INSTEAD of cash is like thinking a stripper is really interested in the guy, not the tips.

That being said, a couple of candy bars ACCOMPANIED BY and extra $20 satisfies the sweet tooth and the bank account.

I guess my point is, if you want to give a little something extra, make sure it is just that....extra.

  5. That's exactly what I meant to say. You go through checkout on Amazon, but don't click "finish transaction", just to find the real price.

It's like "Nice car, how much is it?" "$10,972.22" "I want to buy it" "That would be $12,272.23" "OK, I suddenly changed my mind". Over and over again, telling every car dealer in the area that you want to buy a car just to find out how much the car would really cost. That's a weird practice IMHO.

But you aren’t saying you want to buy it. You are putting all the variables in (number of passengers, cabin type, cabin location, etc.) and getting a final price. With your Amazon example, you have a product that has no variables. Although, with some products, if you don’t have free shipping, you have to put the item in the shopping cart and select a shipping method to get the final price.

Alternatively, Carnival can post a spreadsheet, listing the price for every cabin (with pricing for one, two, three, four or more) along with various fare options (early saver, etc).

  6. Orangeskull, someone on the Conquest lost their bags a few weeks ago. The second morning they were announcing the lost bag, description, and cabin number. They made several announcement, rumor was the luggage was found and returned. The theory of a guest having the wrong bag, looking nothing like their own luggage and then stowing it under their bed is absurd.

Maybe not. A cabin or 4 singles next door accidentally grabs the bag in day 1. Pulls it into a crowded room with may other bags. Four people, each knowing it is not their bag, but thinking it is probably one of the other three’s. It gets shoved over i the corner (sure, space is at a premium and it’s probably still in the way, but work with me here). Only in the night before debarkation does anyone notice they have an extra bag. Then, they sheepishly put the bag back out in to the hall (after making sure no one sees them). They know where it belongs, because it has he cabin number on the tag. The bag is then found by OP.

All it takes is four people who don’t listen to the announcements to “check your bags”.

Granted, this is a stretch. A big stretch. But perhaps possible. After all, the bag was SOMEWHERE.

  7. Well then, if what you say is true, then there must have been some empty cabins on the Dream. If there were, then why weren't some of the passengers displaced by the flood put into those cabins, instead of having to sleep on yoga mats in the spa?

Who said that some passengers were not put into other cabins? Yes, reports are that the displaced passengers are on yoga mats in the gym, but I have seen no reports confirming ALL 50 affected cabins were in the gym.

  8. Is this 48 hour time frame with the cruise line insurance or all insurance policies?

I have bought insurance in the past and was never aware of this.

I don't buy cruise line insurance though.

    Bill

I believe the 48 hour deadline (or 72 on some policies) is for “cancel for any reason” coverages. If one has an otherwise covered reason (sudden illness, death in the family, etc.) I don’t think the deadline would eliminate coverage.

  9.

When you post on FB it becomes their property anyway.

100% not true. That’s just not how copyright works. Your terms of service specifically notes that the user maintains ownership rights to all photos posted on Facebook.

By posting on Facebook, you grant Facebook a license (royalty free, non-exclusive) right to use that image. They can USE that image however they want, but you still own the image.

And yes, the maker of the photos owns an automatic copyright on any and all photos taken. Recently, there was a case where PETA tried to assert copyright rights on behalf of a monkey who took a “selfie” with a dropped camera. PETA said the photo copyright should belong to the monkey (seriously) While the court ruled against the monkey, it was not an frivolous argument based on copyrights held by the making of photos.

Posting in a forum like this will probably be considered “fair use” and allowed without compensation (or even permission). However, the source should be cited (by name of presumptive owner, not “somebody posted this on Facebook”). The lack of citation to source, however, is more a matter of form than s matter of legality.

Now....can we get back to talking about cruising? I leave in 21 days and am trying to focus here!

  10. The tour tickets look to be around 40 each and a car can easily be rented for under 50 dollars. My thought is that we can do the tour and then go explore the rest of the island vs being shipped back to the boat and then trying to squeeze in another activity.

I've been on 4 cruises but have always done the excursions through the cruise ship. This seemed like a great opportunity to do something without going through the ship due to the small size of the island.

While rental will be under $50, factor in gas, insurance and the $20 mandatory license fee and you are at about $85 for a mid-size. Still could be cheaper than the $110 per person.

We rented a car two years ago and drove to Rum Point. Worked out very well.

  11. Although just pulling a no-show is the best for those going on the cruise, I am pretty sure her insurance will treat a no show differently than a cancellation. It could cause her problems to do a no show . And, if the OP has increased costs, her insurance will (should) cover. But, it sounds like there are 4 in the cabin, so the cancellation should not cause an increase in fare for the remaining passengers.

Granted, OP might not be in a mood to do what’s best for the cancelling friend...

  12. Do a Google Image search for “Carnival Chef’s Table Menu”. You will see many photos of the menus. It is fairly consistent on a ship for a couple of years, then they will roll out s new menu gradually throughout the fleet. This is one a I found that matches what we had in the Freedom in 2016. I have no way to confirm whether you will, have the same menu, though. ca64ae014403e3cad62e8db3c710a7d3.jpg

  13. Go to the book faces. Locate Carnival’s brand ambassador (John Heald). Post that it is a birthday and ask (nicely) for something special. It’s nothing fancy (we got chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of cheap bubbly for an anniversary trip) but it is pretty neat. Plus, she will think you have some friends in high places! Beware, though: some on CC apparently find asking for these freebies to be below them (although it’s encouraged by John).

  14. I think it is worth It to buy the package and not worry. But the question are:

    1) Are the non alcoholic drinks unlimited? and do they include the "good" coffee drinks from the coffee shop?

    2) What happens when in 15 hours consumed 15 drinks and want another one? Can you buy?

    THANKS

Yes. Coffee drinks (“good” coffee drinks) are included.

No. Once you hit 15, you are out of options. At 13 or 14, though, you can “buy a round for friends” that will not count against your total. (But will cost extra). Get to know your bartenders and listen. “you are at 13” is them telling you it’s time to get creative.
