  1. I thought everyone might appreciate a live report since we’re on one of the first Oasis sailings going back to St Thomas and San Juan.

Info: I’m 37, hubby is 41, this is our first time on Oasis. We’re Georgians who live in Colorado. We’re traveling with another couple in their 50’s who are from Georgia, so they kindly picked us up from the airport and we drove to the port after staying in Orlando last night.

We have a hump balcony on deck 7 after a visit from the upgrade fairy (we went from an inside guarantee to an ocean view balcony clear.png?emoji-embarrass-1727). I’m not sure if that means we’ve cashed in every bit of fairy dust we have ever accumulated or if we should also have played the lottery that day. Our balcony is HUGE compared to the hump balcony we had before on Mariner. It could easily hold several more chairs or lounge chairs.

This ship is so gorgeous. We loved Freedom, and Oasis genuinely doesn’t feel THAT much bigger. There just seems to be a lot more stuff in a similar space.

I’m happy to try to answer questions! I’ll try to figure out posting some photos in a bit after we go to our Mustard Drill (but I really prefer mayo). clear.png?emoji-tearsjoy-1678

  3. Blaze is more of a night club/hip hop club feel - DJ, dark, flashing lights, plush chairs, etc. The dance floor is small but usually full after 11 or so.

Dazzles is more of an R&B/"oldies" (like 70s music and forward)/classic hits club usually with a live cover band. There will be some dancing. As others have said, this crowd tends to skew older, but I'm 39 and my wife is 29 and we hung out there almost every night last month - if Muzik Express is still on board, go. Best band I've seen at sea.

Here are a couple of video (not mine) to give you an idea of the atmospheres

    Dazzles:

Thank you! That does help! Sounds like Dazzles will be the place to hang out and listen to music and grab a drink, and Blaze will be the dance my feet off spot!

  4. Dazzles usually has a live band. They will have different theme nights that may or may not match what is being celebrated on the ship. If they have the 70’s disco night on the promenade then the band at Dazzles will likely play 70’s that night. Sometimes no discernible theme so the band might be playing 50’s or 80’s or country music on a particular night. Usually there is lots of dancing too. The Cruise Compass will usually tell you what type of music is playing where. Also watch the compass for the Solarium (upper deck part) as it will have a dj with current club music once or twice a week. I keep getting those souvenir drink cups that flash like a disco light on those Solarium clubbing nights. The times we’ve popped into Blaze seems to be a younger crowd and not much happening but its likely that we went too early.

😂 I have a collection of those blinky cups too!

  5. Blaze tends toward the younger generation, Dazzles to a bit older crowd. Depends where your music taste is. You can easily leave one for the other.

I’d say my musical taste is pretty diverse, but I lean more toward current pop/hip hop for dancing. I’m 37, so I’d probably fall somewhere between the old and young depending on your particular perspective lol.

  6. This makes me so happy to read! I’ll be there on Oasis in December. I’ve felt a little conflicted about vacationing there when there are still so many people suffering the effects of the hurricane. Our usual in St Thomas is to taxi to Sapphire Beach, but we decided to do a ship excursion on a catamaran just in case taxis weren’t readily available. I can’t wait to see that blue water!

  8. Hi Fashionistas! I need your opinions! I'm heading out on Oasis of the Seas in less than 3 weeks , and I'm getting my outfits together. I've recently lost 30 lbs (YAY), but that has left me with a somewhat limited wardrobe. Formal night is causing me anxiety :'). I really don't want to go buy dresses for just this cruise - I'm still losing, plus I live in Colorado, which is super casual, and I literally never get that dressed up here. SO. I have a nice black skirt. I was thinking of wearing a pretty blouse and black skirt, but I'm afraid I'll be under dressed. Any thoughts???

  9. I'll be on Oasis of the Seas making a port call in SJ the first week of December. We're only in port from 7am to 2pm. Post-hurricane damage, I'm a little baffled about what to do. The only excursions available through the ship are super expensive ($100+pp), and we usually prefer to do our own thing anyway. At this point, I'm thinking we'll just wonder around Old San Juan a bit, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear them!

    Thanks!

  10. Helllloooo ladies! I haven't been on here for a while, but we just booked a December cruise, so now I'm in cruise clothes planning mode again!

Thanks to the recommendations on this site, I just ordered this bathing suit from swimsuitsforall. I hope it fits!!

I'm trying to whittle down my list...this is a 5 night cruise instead of the 7 nights that I'm used to!

  11. Formal night was surprisingly formal. I saw a few people in more 'Sunday' dresses, but there was a lot of bling too. Lots of dressy cowboy hats, too, since we were sailing from Galveston.

Casual nights, there were A LOT of jeans, complete with big belt buckles, a few guys in shorts and t-shirts, but also a lot of nicely dressed folks.
  12. I'm back!! I'm still trying to get myself organized and back on track after getting home!

I will report, however, that my packing turned out very well! I didn't forget anything, and I only had two t-shirts, one tank top, and one pair of shorts that didn't get worn. Partly that was because it was cold and rainy at embarkation and the first day of the cruise, so I was in jeans and long sleeves instead of cruise-wear those days.

Now I've gotta get everything washed and put up before I make a work related trip to Florida next week!
  13. Happy 1 year anniversary!!

Ok ladies, I AM DONE packing!!! I just weighed my large suitcase and it came in at a respectable 38 lbs, so not overweight, and easy enough for me to handle myself. I even managed to sneak in an extra pair of shoes :D and still have enough room to bring home a few souvenirs.

I have a list of 5 things to put in the suitcase before we leave for the airport - small stuff I need in the morning. Otherwise, I think I'm ready to roll!

  14. Cut that down to 2 outfits. Wear one Friday and Sunday, the other on Saturday. Have them cleaned onboard the ship and rewear for the next Sunday and Monday. That way you will wear one, pack one outfit, plus make sure the shoes you wear go with both.

Thanks for the advice! So, I think I'm going to cut it down to 2 pairs of slacks and 3 shirts for winter wear. I'll be staying with my cruising partner and seeing/meeting a lot of her friends while I'm there, so I at least want different shirts. Then I'll rewear them for disembarkation and the flight home. One pair of black Mary jane shoes will work for all of that.

Ok, it's all coming together now! I'm also ditching one swimsuit...I was packing 4, but I'm narrowing it down to my favorite 3.

Ah, the problems we fashionistas have!

Oh, in other news, I found a great deal on some fab costume jewelry yesterday! I ran in Lane Bryant to buy a new bra (it's the only place that carries my size locally!) and they had a great selection of clearance jewelry for 3.99. I went a little crazy, but I got some really cool pieces that match some outfits I was having a hard time accessorizing. Yay!

  15. Ok ladies, I might just have a mental breakdown packing for this cruise!

Here's my situation - I'm flying to Houston Friday, where the weather is pretty cool. So I'll need winter clothes for Friday, Sat, and for embarkation on Sunday, and then for debarkation the next Sunday, and for my flight home Monday. So I need FIVE days worth of winter clothing!!! I'm trying to decide if I also need winter clothes for at least the first dinner of the cruise.

Also, because I have to handle my luggage myself, I'm sticking to my wheeled carry-on, a small tote, and a large wheeled suitcase.

Just the shoes are blowing my mind. The combo of warm and cold weather clothes is throwing me off. Well, that and the fact that I normally drive to port and can pack the kitchen sink! Lol

You guys send me some CCF good vibes. The paring down to fit the suitcases starts in the morning!
