When we were in Puerto Rico in February my husband had the best Old Fashioned ever.  Had some sort of cinnamon stick in it.  Have you ever tried that?

That sounds delicious!  My husband had a smoked old fashioned at a cocktail bar in our hometown and now I believe Celebrity does those too. He really likes them! We had a great bartender at the World Class bar one cruise who would try out different configurations of an Old Fashioned.  One had dark chocolate shavings on top.  Yummy! I'll have to have him try a cinnamon stick in one sometime.

@surfnsun you are the best!  Thanks so much for taking the time to find out for my husband.  Also, glad to hear you are finding some great bartenders onboard 🙂

Ok, NBLIVING,  so DH didn't order an Old Fashioned tonight, but I asked what might be a somewhat, maybe, questionable, not sure looking, say what?, but very friendly staff member..."what type of cherries do you serve with an Old Fashion".  To which she replied "we only serve maraschino cherries".  But I can tell you the cherry I missed last night was not your typically maraschino cherry.  Larger, not quite as red, and tasty according to you know who.  😆

Thank you so much for asking! My hubby says he may bring his own supply just in case! 😂

  3. I, too have a few questions if you have time.

Did you pack anything in particular for "evening chic" nights?  We have only cruised in the Caribbean so I usually bring a cocktail dress for those nights, but with trying to pack lightly I'm thinking of just wearing a sundress or other dress I'm bringing for a port day or day before or after the cruise - we are doing Venice and Florence.

My other question is for my hubby.  He loves an old fashioned at the world class bar.  On our last cruise, the bar had regular maraschino cherries not the Luxardo maraschino cherries.  If you happen to drink old fashioneds or frequent the world class bar would you let me know what cherries they use?  Thank you so much!

Note that there are two different ferry docks at Salerno.  Molo Manfredi is in the same part of the port as the cruise terminal, so if you can get a ferry from there it will be easier.

There are two departures that would make sense for you, at 8:20 on NLG or 8:40 on Travelmar.

I would make advance reservations for these, because the cruise line will have already locked up places for their tours.

If for some reason you can't get on either of these, the Concordia dock that handles most of the Travelmar ferries is an easy walk of about a mile and a half along the waterfront promenade.

Travelmar schedule here:  Orari traghetti Travelmar - Traghetti veloci in Costiera Amalfitana

NLG here: NLG » Official website

I think we could make the 8:40. My only concern is if there is a delay in letting us off the ship.  I looked at the ship's excursions and the earliest is 8:45.  There are several from the Concordia dock a little later so I may just make our reservation for the 9:40 ferry.

It's a great plan. You have enough time to do both. You could take the taxi from Amalfi to Ravello first, go back to walk around Amalfi and take the ferry back. This avoids possible traffic delays with the bus.

I like this plan.  Great idea.

  6. I’ve been reading all of the concerns with celebrity here and on the social media site that shall remain nameless 😉. We have a cruise on the Equinox in a few weeks with two couples who have never sailed Celebrity. Our last cruise was in January on the Beyond in a sky suite. We had no complaints other than the steak was more of a roast. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what our new to X friends say. FYI that cruise and one we have January ‘24 are pretty much sold out except for a suite or two.

We were on the same sailing.  We independently booked a cooking class with Chef Helmi, Caribbean Chef on Curcao.  There were 14 of us; 3 others were on the Equinox too.  It was a fantastic experience!!  Tip:  we walked across the floating bridge to catch a cab, which was half the price of those waiting by the pier.

Hi @SusieAV8R, I’d love more info on the cooking class - how you booked etc. You can email me at kgwoods at swbelldotnet or post here. Sounds like fun!

Something has always seemed off about the homey warm chocolate chip cookies baked with your parents talk off.  I agree they don't know who they are marketing to, or the experience they want to promote.

Even accepting that baking cookies at home is a common childhood experience, that's not what anyone goes on vacation walking past a coffee bar on a ship designed to appear elegant should be reminded of (especially after a pandemic of baking with whatever one could find), nor should it play to remembrances of a trip to the mall or airport to a Mrs. Fields stand.

Laura did acknowledge it could have been "merchandised" (her term) better, but continued to use the homey childhood line.  Not even Disney does that to market or elevate cookies (there's a cookie place at Disney Springs outdoor mall that all the influencers peddle) to justify the price, and elevate the experience.

We were laughing about the warm cookie comments also.  The only thing I can think of that might have been mentioned in a post cruise review is the warm cookie on the menu in the Rooftop Grill.  Everyone raves about it, so maybe they thought it would be similar to offering items from Specialty Restaurants in the MDR?? Just seems silly to charge $2 for a warm cookie...

  9. We haven’t cruises since January when we were on the Beyond eating in Luminae. So not the MDR, but we were disappointed in the “steaks” we ordered. Seemed more like a roast. We sail on Equinox in a month and will be eating in the MDR with two couples new to X. I’m hoping we are all pleased with food quality but may avoid ordering any steaks.

If Celebrity states they have a large number of classic cocktails made with spirits included under the classic package, they must surely do. Which ones did you see over $10? I bet they weren’t something like a classic rum punch.

I was looking only at the Ensemble menu on the app.  Looking at the Oceanview Bar outside the buffet, there is a Bloody Mary at $10, a Greyhound at $9 and a Screwdriver at $11. Quickly glancing through other bar's menus there are a few under $10 and I'm guessing if you ask the bartender to make one included on the Classic package they will figure something out.

  11. Does anyone know if I bought a premium water while on the Classic package if I still just pay the difference?  Also, just looked at a menu for the Ensemble Lounge on Equinox and there weren't any cocktails at $10.  All were $11 or more.  I can't believe Celebrity isn't raising their Classic Bev max. price.  Again, not a big deal to pay $1 or 2 more but a pain to sign the receipt.
