  1. Have you booked them on the screens ? NCL told me over phone to go up to race track direct and book in person . So many mixed messages about the race track , I’m hoping we get a chance to use them , it seems strange to me they are selling a unlimited ride on them , how can they do that if people are struggling to get one ride on them ?

Yes, you can book using the screens. That’s what I did.

  2. On one of our cruises we had 2 cabins. For the second cabin, we found out about a month before the cruise that the second person was not going to make it. We thought about getting another person to go, but the change fee was outrageous and not worth it. So, we just left the reservation stand until we got to the port. At check in, we told the person behind the counter that we didn't think that the person was going to make it. She said no problem.

We did not get charged the gratuities for the missing person but did not get any type of port fee or taxes refund - and did not expect it.

The one thing though...we had to wait until we got on the ship to purchase the beverage package for the second cabin. (It was an inside cabin so no freebies at that time.) Once they learned that only one person was in the cabin, we were able to purchase the drink package for one. If we had done it before the cruise, we would of had get it for both people.

Port fees/taxes should absolutely be refunded.

  3. Definitely an option for certain markets. No $ back but full credit.

I feel bad for the op because she obviously tried to plan ahead. She insured her trip with cruise insurance through the cruise line, insured her flight.

Most consumers don’t even know that cruise lines cancel sailings if the corporation can make more $ selling your stateroom for a charter or different itinerary. We think about natural disasters, sickness, political unrest, ship breaking down at sea, missed flights...The average consumer has no idea cruise lines can and do cancel cruises simply to make more money and they are only obligated to give the customers a refund for the cruise.

We’re even more shocked to learn that there’s no insurance policy, at least in the United States, that will refund our airfare when this happens.

But that’s the thing. Why would they refund your airfare when you can still use it? It still has monetary value. Just re-book your cruise or plan a different vacation. I’m assuming that just because a cruise was cancelled doesn’t mean that you still don’t want to go on vacation.

  4. Folks are always posting about mythical independent insurance plans that provide reimbursement for airfare if the cruise line canceled a cruise and you no longer can use the flight. There is no such plan. No independent insurance will give you the $ back on a flight because the cruise line canceled your cruise and you don’t want the flight anymore. Same holds true if the canceled 60 days in advance or 6 months in advance.

Sorry this happened to you op. Ncl typically will reimburse the flight change fees, up to $300 pp IF you rebook another sailing with them. What this typically looks like is you rebook the new cruise, then call the airline, rebook flights at the new fares, pay the change fee and submit to Ncl. It’s often less $ to just eat the cost of airfare and rebook a new plane fare.

The only work around I know of is booking with redeposit-abled miles such as with British Airways avios and pay the $50 redeposit fees or purchase fully refundable airfare.

I fly southwest and there are never any change fees. Just change the date and/or destination and presto a new trip is born.

  5. So I just visited the site you recommend and gave all my trip info for a November booking on the Breakaway. But I have to provide my e-mail address in order to see the quote. I hate this bc then they have my e-mail address and will ultimately continue to barrage me with unsolicited e-mails. I much prefer a service who will tell me up front the pricing of their service. Please don't misunderstand, I appreciate the tip but don't much care for the e-mail caveat.

I use a separate email address for these types of things.

  6. That’s correct, Hendricks had gone over $15, which in all honesty even with a double and fever-tree tonic and the best hotels only comes to about £8.50-£9.00. I think NCL have lost the plot

I don’t know about Hendricks as I didn’t ask for that on my cruise a few weeks ago but had no issue with Bombay or Tanqueray. Just need to be flexible on brand.

  7. Make sure you know what drinks are below the $15 limit, ask when you are ordering if you are uncertain.

It’s pretty hard to find a drink that is more than $15. Out of all my cruises and all the drinks I have ordered only twice have I ever ordered a drink more than $15 and the bartender warned me before making it.

  8. Your DSC doesn’t increase whatsoever, there is no obligation to tip anyone.

Premium All inclusive means just that.

While you are technically correct that their is no “obligation” to tip anyone, people who stay in suites do tip the butler and concierge.

  9. Using that logic, why would NCL get rid of it? Hint: One of those tails, even at wholesale price, probably costs them more than any other entree on the menu in the MDR.

I wasn’t saying that it’s not a cost saving measure. Just pointing out that’s it’s not like it’s anything especially gourmet.

  10. Sure, and there’s still lobster bisque at Cagney’s, but those aren’t really what’s being discussed. When someone is looking for lobster you don’t offer them a pot pie or a soup. Sure, those are good, but that’s not the point.

Actually it was ALOT of lobster. Both huge claws and what seemed to be almost a whole tail just cut into pieces. It was very good.

I will say though, not sure why it seems like lobster is the holy grail. I mean you can go to any red lobster across the country and get basically the quality of lobster that you would have previously found on the ships. I even get lobster tails from Giant for $5 a 4ounce tail

  11. It’s called duty free. People are not specifically on the cruise to buy these type of items but certain things can have quite a savings. For example: I bought two bottles of Johnny Walker Blue for $132 each whereas at a liquor store where I live they can fetch as high as $240 per bottle. Similar for cigarettes, $30 a carton where they would be $70+.

The savings might not be as drastic for other type of items that don’t have the type of taxes associated with alcohol and cigarettes but there is definitely a savings. Even if it is just the savings of sales tax, a $1000 camera would get you a savings of approx $60-$100 on sales tax alone.

  12. The rule changed last year to allow you as a person with UBP to order two drinks at once. This is because with all the promo free UBP packages the bar lines are getting bad at times. At times it took a half hour to get a drink ordered from waitresses and going up to the bar directly was still a 10 minute wait.

I’ve never waited 10 minutes let alone 30 minutes but that could be because I tip cash every drink so as soon as they see me they are excited to serve me.

  13. I should've said order instead of purchase

You think they would let you order two if the card is only linked to one UBP in the cabin? I thought they only did that if they know two people have the UBP in the cabin.
