  1. We are from the UK and have 2 cruises booked which start  and/or finish in either Tilbury or Greenwich.  We fly to or from Heathrow to Manchester airport and transfers are included.  As you mentioned getting to Heathrow I would have thought you would have got an included transfer unless you are staying a day or two  independently before flying home.

  2. I would be surprised too if it was a tender as the cruise terminal has a proper docking area.  It does only have room for one ship however, so perhaps another ship has ‘bagged the berth’. Our  British Isles Explorer in June is not showing it as a tender.

  3. There are loads of these locks at Albert Dock, which also has museums, a Tate Liverpool Art Gallery, and good little independent shops and restaurants.  Liverpool One is a compact shopping area.  Both the cathedrals are within walking distance, the Anglican one (traditional) and the Catholic one (known as Paddy’s Wigwam because of its style) are both worth a visit and free to enter, just donations requested. Also walking distance is the Museum of Liverpool  and the Merseyside Maritime Museum both free to enter  and the Beatles Story (chargeable). Walkable again is the Cavern Club site and outside is a good statue of Cilla Black.  The Beatles statue is near the terminal and always has tourists there taking selfies.  You can usually get a picture if you want and they are very lifelike .

Talking of the love locks again, there are 1000s of them and our family are geocachers ( which is like GPS treasure hunting). One of the caches is inside a lock.  We took three attempts when visiting Liverpool before we found it.  Happy to answer any more questions.

  4. It’s the cruise terminal near the Three Graces buildings with the Liver Birds on top, and the Beatles statues.  Liverpool is a very walkable and there is plenty to do.  Just ask if you have more questions as we used to go there regularly for a short stay before Covid and know it quite well.

  5. I did some feedback to the ‘Talking Viking’  site in the UK and one month in the community points draw a got two tickets to the Tutankhamen exhibition in London.  (This was pre Covid ) As I was unable to go at that time I checked that I could gift it to a friend and the people at Viking UK  said it was OK.  My friends were going to London for the rugby so added the exhibition to their itinerary.  They gave a donation to the charity that I support, so a win situation all round.
I’ve not won anything since, but have not had any feedback for them to get points since lockdown.  I don’t get any more communications from Viking as a result of feedback.

  6. We noticed that Jupiter went to Skagen and then back to Kristiansand earlier and now Star is off to Skagen.  We stopped there on our Scandinavia and the Kiel Canal cruise and walked around the area with our guide. There didn’t seem to be any reason why the ships should go there at this time.  Any ideas why they would be going there?

    Hi Clay

I’ll have your brown cheese please.  We believe our excursions will be available to view tomorrow for our Northern Lights Feb 14th 2021 so it will be nice to savour the cheese while we spend a happy half day perusing what we may do.  Fingers very tightly crossed.  We just volunteered to be in the latest vaccine trials, but may not be chosen.

I’ll reply to my own post. Yesterday was the date when our excursions for NL cruise Feb 14th 2021 should have been available to view.  Nothing there yesterday or today.  I wonder if this is significant?

Morning all!   Came up for a cup of coffee and a waffle (no brown cheese please).   Join me if you’d like.

I’ve decided that in addition to all the other issues we face because of Lady Corona’s visit (doesn’t she know a proper guest doesn’t stay this long) I am upset because these boards aren’t just active enough anymore.

Back in the old days, I could keep my sanity Between cruises by living vicariously through other people’s cruises or relive my good memories by sharing tips and hints for folks headed to places we have visited.  Now, all we have is the occasional post about a refund (and even those have slowed to a trickle since most have been paid I presume).

So instead of enjoying my time on CruiseCritic, I find myself obsessing over the upcoming election. Thank goodness I can at least volunteer to assist with that effort but it’s not exactly as fun or relaxing as obsessing over Viking’s newest itinerary! LOL

  9. I believe John’s surname is Cunningham.

That’s John!  I’m blanking on his last name but was so nice to us and especially my DMIL.  It was her first Viking cruise and we had told her about the wonderful lobster we had.  Of course, on this cruise rather than being split lobster the menu was calling for lobster tail à la something or another.  DMIL mentioned to John The day before how much she had been looking forward to the split lobster she had heard about and wished it was being served instead of the tail.  Next night at dinner...you quessed it-Voila!

  10. We had made spreadsheets of all the Viking schedules prior to Covid and Viking Sea had a gap from 25th Nov 2020 to 9th Dec 2020 which we assumed was a refit.  Similarly Viking Sky has a gap 8th Dec 2021 to 22nd Dec 2021 when it may be due a refit.
No idea if we are correct, pure speculation!

  11. The possibility of a Viking round UK cruise later this ‘summer’ was still being discussed in the British press this weekend, (28th June) but no answer or details of route as yet.  Seemingly Viking had a tremendously positive response to  the email sent out to past passengers.  It will be interesting to know what they have in mind.

  12. Just wondered if anyone has heard any more about this proposal.  I did not register an interest as we have rescheduled our British Isles Explorer from July 2020 to June 2021, so only being curious as to where they were thinking of sailing.

  13. Our In the Wake of the Vikings cruise last September should have had the second day in Bergen, but because of hurricane Dorian we set sail Day 1 as soon as everyone was on board.  ( I don’t think anyone was left behind, not sure what they would have done if anyone had not arrived early enough on day 1). The decision was a good one as we avoided the worst of the weather, although it was bad enough!).
