  1. After 20 cruises, it finally happened to us...locked out of the room from the balcony. DH knew it immedietly that he did not take the proper precautions. Not a soul around so DH lifted up on the glass sliding door and it popped open. Whew!

Which then, of course, raises a huge security flag.

  2. I'm a retired hotelier and can tell you he wasn't lying. This stresses the deadbolt and will eventually lead to failure. Worse are the people that set the deadbolt to prevent the door from closing and let the door swing shut with only the deadbolt to stop it. It wasn't your fault really, yours was just the last of likely tens of thousands of such jolts to the mechanism.

  3. I saw my lovely bride of 30 years immersed in our cruise experience and thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with her. I saw professional and attentive wait staff hustling and bustling to bring a very high level of satisfaction. I saw numerous selections of appetizers, entrees and desserts available for my enjoyment.

Oh, and others were there too, maybe wearing stuff!

  4. Slots in general are one of the worst bets in casinos. While you might see some advertised at 97% payback, that only applies to those in that area. In casinos that need to compete for your business they will probably keep them in the low 90's and lower when there is a captive audience. In general, you can expect around 84% to be the lowest. Much lower and people do get disgusted, as the OP apparently did. Higher denominations might be set a little higher. Casinos are not required to report these settings except to their gambling authority, or at least that is true of US and Native casinos. The cruise ships however, are subject to the laws of where they are registered. Often Malta.

  5. Generally speaking, the military/senior/resident rates are there to give you the perception that they give special rates to these people. In reality, there is almost never a time that these rates beat standard promotions. Please note I said almost. I'm sure there have been some rare exceptions but not once in my experience.

  6. If they have there's a pretty simple workaround.

Take the credits to a slot machine but don't gamble.

Cash the credits out, go to the cashier, and get the cash.

It's a couple extra steps, but that should work.

Typically credits like this have a requirement that they be played through. Meaning if you got $100 you would need to play $100 on slot before you could cash out.

  7. They sure have buried it. It's under "Phone" on the "Staying in Touch" tab of the "During Your Cruise" page of the "Already Booked?" section:

Friends and family can contact the ship by calling 877-266-1020. From outside the U.S., they can call 321-953-9002. The cost is $7.95 USD a minute. This can be charged to their MasterCard® or Visa®. From outside the U.S., additional long distance charges will also apply.

You can make ship-to-shore calls from your stateroom, 24 hours a day. The cost is $7.95 USD per minute and will be automatically charged to your SeaPass® account.

This is from the US site. It may be different in other countries, though the info should be the same.

    To add to this:

Callers must have the ship name and the person they wish to contact. When connected, enter the number for the ship you wish to reach, followed by the pound sign:

    Celebrity Century: 1#

    Celebrity Constellation: 2#

    Celebrity Eclipse: 3#

    Celebrity Equinox: 4#

    Celebrity Infinity: 5#

    Celebrity Millennium: 6#

    Celebrity Silhouette: 7#

    Celebrity Solstice: 8#

    Celebrity Summit: 9#

  8. Looked it up, as you suggested. Looks like court and allowances for people running outside the confines would require around a 65 by 35 foot space give or take a little. I doubt it's the cost of tape and equipment that would prevent it but the large cost in space. I wouldn't think it's the next best thing they might wish to do with over 2,000 square feet of valuable deck area. Maybe, if it has enough interest, they could tape off an area one day for a tournament or something like that.

  9. Perhaps the worst mistake you can ever make, is packing a bad attitude – pack some sense of humor instead and you’re guaranteed an unforgettable vacation. And remember that: “When you figure out your suitcase, you figure out your life,” (Diane von Furstenberg).

  10. You know you can make it so you don't see these, don't you?

    1. Go to User CP

    2. Choose Setting and Options

    3. Chose Edit Options

    4. Go to Thread Display Options

    5. Go to Visible Post Elements and uncheck what you don't wish to see

I agree, they get crazy long and I also don't want to see them.

Thanks again 6rugrats, this was exactly what I was looking for.

  11. First, to those behind the scenes bringing us together on the Cruise Critic forums, thank you. I typically read these forums from my tablet or phone via Tapatalk, as I suspect many others do. This works great because it strips off the signature from the posts. Earlier today though I used my laptop instead and noticed just how long some of these signature blocks have become. I'm just curious if there has ever been any thought to limiting the signature block to something reasonable like 4 or 5 lines (just a number, maybe 810?) to make the reading experience a bit easier?

  12. as for when: best selection is as soon s the cruise opens. most no longer drop prices after final payment is due(45-90 days out) and nearly every cruise sails full. if price is the biggest consideration, book guarantee or wait until final payment. if cabin type is most important, book as soon as you can live with the price advertised. if it goes down before FP you can get an adjustment.

We are booked on a May 13th cruise, which we booked as soon as they became available. The price has now gone up over $300 for this one. Part of that is because the promotion changed but even without any promotion, it is higher.
