  1. I too would be leary of using a document that "will probably work".

I did learn from all of this that once my CA drivers license won't be accepted for domestic air (not REAL ID) I can use the passport card until it's time to renew.

Yep, I agree...that's why he made the appointment for an emergency passport...we would never accept a "probably"...I just wanted to share the info that a rep at Princess actually said that to him...even if the rep had said yes, it's acceptable, I told him to get email confirmation so we could print it up and take it with us on embark day. But it's all going to work out because he can get the passport this week.

  2. We too, were on the February 17th cruise. A lot of schools now have the President's Day week off. I heard we had between 400-500 kids on cruise. This was our least favorite of our 3 Princess cruises. The wake up calls at 3:30 in the morning certainly gets your heart racing thinking the worst that could have happened. I don't think anyone went back to sleep after that. PJ - cruise director was terrible! We went to the Marriage game show and he was late and then proceeded to say that Ana, the assistant cruise director that started the game show for him, was the "worst assistant cruise director ever". She was clearly upset by his comments. The rest of the show was uncomfortable and disjointed. I spoke to one of the couples that was playing and they thought that possibly the crew had been drinking to much. The service in the Sanctuary was terrible. Had to ask for a blanket 3 times, among other issues. We did speak to the person in charge of buffet and asked why they didn't serve lox for breakfast anymore. He said that you have to ask for it and they will bring it to you. Good to know for the future. We still enjoyed our time but we probably won't do anything less than 7 days in the future.

Wow, that's unbelievable for a Princess cruise!!! If you think 500 kids was difficult...our Thanksgiving cruise on Emerald had over 750 kids! I was miserable and will never cruise another holiday with so many kids aboard. Staff did not control the kids nor did the parents (at least most of them).

  3. You can submit one primary ID or at least TWO secondary IDs. Ultimately' date=' if you have nothing, you can have someone else who has appropriate ID attest that you are the person you claim to be. As you can see, things like a social security card, health insurance/medicare card, voter registration card, etc. do not have photos on them.

    [b']Primary IDs (submit one)[/b]

    • In-state, fully valid driver's license (not temporary or learner’s permit)
    • Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport book or passport card (with recognizable photo, can be expired)
    • Certificate of Naturalization (with recognizable photo)
    • Certificate of Citizenship (with recognizable photo)
    • Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
    • U.S. military or military dependent ID
    • Current (valid) foreign passport
    • Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular ID) - commonly used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
    • Permanent resident card (Green Card) - commonly used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant

    Secondary IDs (submit a combination)

    • In-state, fully valid non-driver ID
    • Out-of-state driver's license
    • Out-of-state non-driver ID
    • Social Security card
    • Learner's or temporary driver's permit
    • Voter registration card
    • Employee ID
    • Student ID
    • Selective Service (draft) card
    • Medicare or other health card
    • Expired driver's license

He is Veteran and has a VA ID card and so we are hoping that will work...if not plan B will be to go to San Francisco for fast track passport. We are just waiting on a call back from Princess...

  4. To the OP, when you say your husband can't find his license, what exactly does that mean? Did he lose his wallet? Did it fall out of his wallet? When was the last time he remembers seeing it or using it. Sometimes retracing your steps can help locate a lost item. Sorry you're in this situation that doesn't seem to have a good solution.

Sent from my SM-S820L using Forums mobile app

It's not in the house, he just doesn't remember where he used it last or if it fell out of his wallet while getting a credit card out...and he is spending the day back tracking places he went since last week.

  5. I believe one can indeed sail a closed loop cruise with an original, embossed, birth certificate. It may well be faster to obtain although I would personally be hustling my buns for a passport. Of course you may well need the birth certificate to get the expedited passport since you have no picture ID.

Actually Princess requires an original birth certificate and an Approved picture ID card...this is always what we use since cruise only from California.

  6. If California is the same as here in Florida the only way to get a replacement for a lost DL is to order and pay the fee online and wait for it to be mailed. You can show the payment receipt to the police as proof you are a licensed driver should you get pulled over, but you are without proof of identity/residency/age until you get the copy in the mail. No way to expedite the replacement.

Only alternative is to get an appointment at one of the emergency passport centers. Which for the OP would likely involve two six hour round trip drives to Los Angeles (one to order, the other to pick up passport a couple days later).

Yes, California is same as Florida...gotta wait for it to be mailed. Looking into emergency passport system here in CA..thank you!

  7. Where, or what is Napa Value?

    We were on the cruise.

    To add a few comments.

First two days at sea were a bit rocky. Like a rolling 3.00 earthquake. ;)

Cuisine was OK. We are not picky eaters. Plenty of butter served at dinner each night in the MDR. Never needed to ask for refills

We enjoyed the Hawaiian Ambassadors, Brian and Rowena Vasquez, and attended their performances in the Piazza, the Hawaianna lectures, Hula, and Ukulele workshops. We did not attend the lei making, pearl, or shark tooth pendant workshops. Brian and Rowena embodied a true Aloha spirit. And for us, the most enjoyable part of the cruise. :)

Shipboard entertainment was fine. No complaints from us.

There were two medical emergencies that we witnessed. And one we did not. First, going ashore in Nawilliwilli, we saw an ambulance on the pier. Later, another fellow PAX said a PAX had suffered a diabetic coma, and was found by her husband barely breathing. Ships medical personnel was able to provide medical assistance.

Second medical emergency, at about 11:00 p.m. on another evening, the Captain announced over the ships intercom rhar there wound be a medical evacuation operation at sea by helicopter and advised PAXs to stay in their staterooms and turn off the lights during the operation. Shortly thereafter, a USCG helicopter arrived, and about one hour later evacuated the sick PAX. We were sailing between islands. The following day, we were told by a PAX who knew the PAX who was evacuated, that the woman suffered a stroke or heart attack, and was air lifted to a hospital in Honolulu.

Third medical occurrence, we we told by a fellow PAX, that an elderly PAX had died of a heart attack on board. Unconfirmed.

Dress Code. We had late seating traditional dining in Botticelli DR. We saw a group of three men wearing their hats every evening at dinner in the MDR. They were with their wifes/girlfriends. We noticed on the of the men on the first night arguing with the Maitre D. My guess it was over their hats, Howevr, they were allowed to continue to wear their hats, and they did so. Every night.

Many men young and old wearing tuexedos on the three Formal Nights. Some ladies wearing long gowns.

We noticed no one dressed shabby in tee shirts, torn jeans, or shorts at dinner in the MDR. Although we had a laugh when we noticed from afar an elderly man wore a tuxedo tee shirt and jeans in the MDR on the three Formal Nights. Even more laughable because he and his (wife?} were seated at a 4 top with a couple where the man was dressed in real formal wear. :)

We enjoyed our cruise, and met many nice PAXs. We came into contact with only a few complainers or whinners.

Napa Valley is an area north of San Francisco (about an hour or more) known for their many wineries.

  8. Wow, so sorry to hear all the issues going on with the Crown...our experiences on the Crown were just fabulous so I just don't get the differences...but I would call that steward into my cabin and show him all issues...then I would call guest services to share same issues...then hopefully all will be taken care of...if not, be persistant, and know this is not the norm of a Princess cruise.

  9. Thank you for replying, I have just looked on my personaliser as you suggested but I am afraid I still can't see an option to request robes, it asks what type of bed, queen or twin and dining preferences traditional or anytime, but nothing else. Any suggestions?

No problem, just wait till you are onboard to request robes from your room steward. 75% of our cruises we have requested the robes but they weren't in our room upon arrival...but not because they didn't receive our request but due to all robes being washed from the previous cruise. But it is strange you can't locate the request in the same area as dining choices, bed configuration etc.

  10. Do they ever offer refund to credit card for original fare paid or is it just OBC?

    dog:)

On all my move over offers and acceptances it was REFUNDABLE on board credit which means they send you a check within 6 weeks after the cruise for any refundable obc remaining (that you did not use during the cruise).
