  1. If Blu was just another of the specialty restaurants I wonder how popular it would actually be compared to the other restaurants. Is is just the exclusivity that people like. I have sailed both Aqua and CC and was not blown away by Blu. If it was not included, and I had to pay for it, I might have tried it once but would probably not return. In my vie the Aqua premium price is certainly not worth it just for Blu unless you enjoy the exclusivity element.

  2. The long way around.

No Celebrity ship is sized to transit the Kiel Canal. Oceania, Azamara, Princess R-class ships are OK, HAL Prinsendam and some other smaller ships but nothing bigger.

Thanks for info. That's disappointing. I would love to see it - love canals,

  3. Friends of ours are taking the cruise directly after our. We disembark Sunday morning and they embark later. The itinerary is the very same. I want to leave them some guidebooks etc. Would they take and hold these at Customer Services to be collected by my friends? Or are there issues?

  4. Thanks for the great review and videos.

Just a small thing. it can be very annoying to other patrons when someone is filming one of the shows on a smart phone. As in cinemas and theatres smart phones have no place in the theatre on a cruise ship. I presume you were in the back row and therefore not annoying anyone.

  5. At least you got the upgrade :). Quick question, which ship has C2 aft view cabins - I thought all the S class ships were C1s or SVs, apart from the suites ? If you snagged a C1, that's an excellent upgrade ;).

Sorry, you are correct. Its a C1 and not C2 on the Eclipse - Baltic cruise. They offered me a C2 - I saw the C1 on aft view available on their site and asked for this and they agreed. Cabin 1405.

  6. OP here.

I accepted a CC option C2 upgrade with aft view cabin. Overall, having started with nothing, I got a free upgrade and am satisfied.

I could have hung in there but I guess honest mistakes do happen and life is too short.

    Thanks for all advice provided.

  7. The CC cabins on the M Class are about 20 square feet larger. Not sure what ship the OP is talking about.

OP, if you're really "into" food then AQ's Blu might appeal to you. If it's not that big of a deal, go with the CC cabin.

    We are on the Eclipse.

  8. I would appreciate views on this situation.

I am booked on a celebrity Cruise in the Summer and invoice now due for payment. I rang my TA and asked them to check if there were any upgrades available. We are balcony class. She rang me back to say that she had Celebrity on the other line and that there was an upgrade to Aqua class available for euro 45 each for the cruise which is 14 nights. She told me the cabin number. I said this sounded great and said we would accept and she said she would confirm with Celebrity and send me a revised invoice. Obviously I was delighted and told my better half etc.

Later in the day my TA rang back to say Celebrity had made a mistake and Celebrity quoted the wrong rate. The actual upgrade would cost euro 400 approx each. She said she had been on the phone to them all day saying she couldn't go back to her customer now and pushed Celebrity to confirm the deal. Celebrity said they couldn't but offered an up grade to Concierge class at no cost.

I said I was very annoyed about this and said I thought that Celebrity should honour the the offer (nothing in writing) but that I would think about it over the weekend and get back to her then.

    I would appreciate any views.

  9. What is your source for this claim? It's ridiculous to make a blanket statement without examining the incident break outs.

A recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally (more guns = less crime).

Nations with strict gun control laws have substantially higher murder rates than those who do not in general. In fact, the 9 European nations with the lowest gun ownership rate have a combined murder rate 3x that of the 9 European nations with the highest gun ownership rate!

    Source is here

    http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/past-tolls

And rates are increasing year to year.

  10. I would be more concerned going to the USA than Europe. While tragic and unacceptable the number of people killed in Europe is minuscule in relation to the population. I don't have the exact figure for 2015 but it is in the hundreds. This compares to over 50,000 incidences of gun crime and 12,000 deaths in the US.

  11. My first with Celebrity Solstice and will be on-board soon on an 18 nights journey from Sydney to Honolulu. RCI big ships has Promenade Cafe on Promenade Deck that serves cafe and pastries all day-24 hours. Wonder is something similar in Solstice. If it does where is it located? Thank you so much.......

    Born-to-Cruise

    Past Cruises

    12 RCI and 3 Carnival

(:)funds permitting, always looking forward to great cruises :))

Good Lord! Can you not survive overnight without pastries?

  12. We are booked in a balcony cabin classified as 2A on the Eclipse in July. Can anyone explain how cabins are classified between 1 abc to 2 abc etc?

Why might it be worth it to pay substantially more for balcony cabin elsewhere on the ship? - I take it balcony cabins are all the same size and have the same features.

    Thanks

  13. I think it is the cultural difference as to how tipping works on either side of the Atlantic. I may be wrong but I think in the US a very large part of a server's income is made up of tips. In the UK most income would be made up in their direct wage with tips just seen as a bonus. UK passengers will think it is the responsibility of the employer to pay its' staff appropriately while US passengers are well used to making this payment direct to the staff. As this is an US ship UK passengers need to understand more fully how the staff are paid and then decide if tipping is appropriate (which it clearly is).
