  1. Walking is fun in Venice but taking the vaporetto on Grand Canal is the quintessential Venice experience. It is the only vantage point from which you see the facades of the grand palaces the way they were intended to be seen - from the water.

Agree! The best way is to go up sitting on one side and then go back sitting on the other. Unfortunately you've got to get off and on...

  2. The 1st is too early! Ne'er Day ( New Year's Day) is a big deal in Scotland-people have friends and family over for another big meal, like another Christmas, and I was really disappointed when I got up on the 1st on Elizabeth to find all the decorations down. It felt quite flat.

  3. Oceania have confirmed that we have to be off the ship by 9am. Our flight departs at 15:15, so we were thinking of arranging transfer for 11:30-12:00. Given we'll be lumbered with our luggage and time is limited, our options would be either of the above.

Last October there was substantial building work at Fiumicino but we were through the port so quickly that I didn't notice what facilities were available.

    Advice anyone or past experience?

  4. Our first Oceania cruise is in July, in the Med. I've read all the information on the website but as we're Scottish and don't have Country Clubs, CC casual means absolutely nothing to me!

I don't want to be over or under dressed in the evenings. We've only cruised with Cunard before; would items worn for their Informal nights be too dressy?

    Ladies-help!!

  5. Try Eurotunnel. Don't do America for those of a more mature age, but great for pre-existing conditions. You need to phone them as they don't do online quotes but very easy 5 main questions that you're not travelling to obtain treatment or against doctor's orders. I've had Breast Cancer, hip replacement and husband has Type 2 diabetes, high BP etc. Aged 56 and 59 and our joint annual policy is £76. All pre-existing conditions are covered.

  6. We're from Scotland-all electrical appliances are 220 and three pin plugs. I can borrow my mother's US hairdryer but my GHD straighteners aren't going to work, even with an adaptor. They're not dual voltage. Oh crap!

  7. Are you sure you're not my partner writing under another nom de plume??? 😂😂😂 I'm just recalling him asking for his coffee after pudding.....With the non English as a first language waiter looking a little confused at the use of "pudding" vs "dessert"...... Don't forget to ask for petits fours with coffee 😀

Hahaha! For the sake of the waiters I'll try "dessert"! I've been looking at the posts and will make a valiant effort to get to the petits fours.

  8. Lol!!

We won't be rushed then, eating at that time? I like time between courses and a long leisurely meal. Coffee I want served after pudding, not with it. It may be easier with allocated tables as the waiters are used to each tables' foibles!:)
