  1. On our next cruise we will be going on the Carnival Splendor out of Long Beach. We would like to spend a couple of days sight seeing around Los Angeles before the cruise since we have never been there before. I originally thought we would stay in Long Beach but it will cost too much I think to go back and forth. We would like to go to CBS television studio and some other places around there. I need some suggestions about what area of Los Angeles would be best for us to stay. Also, we need a place that will sleep six. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Stay at The garland hotel. North Hollywood/universal. And from universal you can jump on the subway. That's a very central location. If it's too much for 6 people there are several nice places in the studio city/Burbank/north Hollywood area. I should know I live right here!

  2. JetBlue doesn't fly a nonstop or direct BUF-SJU. Additionally, who's to say they're always going to be the cheapest on that route (via, say, JFK of course)?

OP didn't ask for non-stop, asked for cheap and $178 is not that bad. You can fly out of JFK for $158 nonstop but how do you get to JFK and is it worth saving $20 for the convenience of leaving out of BUF?

  3. Hi Guys., just here to pick someones brains... I know very little about Tokyo and we are intending on staying one or two nights in Tokyo before a night in Yokohama before boarding the Queen Elizabeth next year. I have no idea where to even start when thinking of a hotel.

No great plans other than to wander and soak up the atmosphere as I appreciate we will not be there long enough to see much. A day walking and maybe a temple or park would be nice.

Does any one have any suggestions as to areas to stay that will be close to train and metro services?

    thanks much appreciated....Roscoe

    Hey roscoe,

We stayed at both and both have +/- ...

Grand Hyatt shinjuku. Great for walking and shopping.

    The strings/intercontinental shinagawa.

Closer to port super nice and connected to MAIN train station (to narita).

  4. Enjoying your report. BTW, when sailing on Oceania’s Marina, we also found times when there was nothing available to eat. Agree that with travel and jet lag, or returning back onboard from an early excursion, there can be odd times when a snack or a few bites are needed to hold you until the next meal.

Looking forward to your next post. Happy New Year![emoji312]

Is there not room service 24/7?

  5. Agreed. That was the first thing I thought of when I read the title here. OP, how much did you lose? Have you tried disputing the charge or asked for a refund? Make sure you leave a negative review on Trip Advisor and maybe they'll reach out to you and offer a refund.

BTW I'm not sure if your tour was specifically intended for cruise ship passengers. Sounds like it wasn't given the apparently unreasonable start time. Maybe that's the lesson here. Book excursions for cruise ship passengers which start at an appropriate time.

WHY would the op leave a "negative review, ask for a refund or dispute the charge" ? She was late. It's a shame she missed the tour but I've been on tours where we waited an extra minute or two and the people never showed. Venice is VERY confusing and we've been a couple times. On walks around the city we gotten lost. Some places you can navigate easily Venice is NOT one of them.

  6. Live from shadow. 9/14/17. Things on board are not the same. Food in MDR is subpar. Even after meeting with F&B, chef & M'd. Last nights dinner was again a let down. Paper thin tuna steak dry and over cooked. A version of gnocchi that were so hard I could barely cut through them. Tiny shrimp served as cocktail shrimp. Room service took close to 40 minutes yesterday. They did call and say they were going to be late. But still 40 minutes?! Crew not making the effort to great you. I'm not sure what is going on but I didn't wait for 6 months for this. Is this ciao to SS? Will they even miss us? Probably not. (Sad face).

  7. I thought you were talking about a snack at first! Couldn't imagine why you would care to wait in line to get it back. :')

Lol. Me too. Like cookie dough. And I thought..."you waited in line?" Then I realized you meant power strip.

  8. I need to get to San Pedro from Burbank. I'm visiting friends in Burbank before my cruise and driving me to San Pedro that day is a problem. I'll probably end up booking a shuttle with Super Shuttle or Prime Time, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any other ideas for something more affordable. Thanks in advance.

You got the best way. I live right at BUR. and that's the best way.

  9. In 2012 we took the 28-day Hawaii/Tahiti cruise in a full suite and the fare was $9,098.

In 2017 we are taking the same cruise again in a full suite and the fare is $11,459.

That is only a $472 per year increase in fare over that 5 year period.

Considering how the economy has improved, I don't think that is unreasonable.

Also, Princess has added 3 new big and expensive ships to its fleet that must be paid for.

    Ok all of you 1%ers.

    nukesubsailor is taking a $11,459 cruise !!!

And the other poster recommends you use "surplus cash from assets". While the OP is struggling to pay $1,500. Do you think your post really relate?

  10. I would be flying in the day before and they could meet me at the ship the next day. I don't let other people dictate my travel plans.

Sooooo true, OR as the "senior" cruise person I would have dictated the flight day due to "experience".
