  1. We were on this trip earlier this year and we're fine with our regular "hiking boots". My husband took a hike one day were boots were highly suggested and got a pair from the ship,BUT... he had made friends with some crew members. The boots were not offered to everyone. I would be happy to email more info and some pics if you are interested.

  2. if you compare your Silver Shadow transpacific to Oceania Marina transatlantic, 14 days, April, 2019, you get for a basic balcony cabin (roughly 100 sq.ft. smaller) $3999/14 = $286 per diem. How does that look?

but no "open bar" and more people. the bar on Oceania, if you pick that option, is only for lunch and dinner service. if you add the premium bar option at $59 pp per day the cost comes out to about the same ...BUT the room is 33% smaller. i still dont think i would pick Oceania.

  3. P.S. Just for comparison, we found the Silver Spirit's Caribbean fare to be grossly cheap. For example, 11 days, Fort Lauderdale return on January 18 - 29, 2918, basic verandah (376 sq,ft,) at $4050 or $368 per diem.

Oceania Riviera 14 days, January 23 to February 6, 2018, basic balcony stateroom (282 sq,ft,) at $4799 or $342 per diem, while their basic mini-suite (420 sq.ft.) at $6299 or $450 per diem.

we are on the shadow voyage 3726(transpacific)and got a verandah, 100sft bigger, tub and shower plus open bar 24/7 for $4725, 14 days. $337.50 per day... is there really any comparison?

  4. I'm trying to remember....do the documents come via regular post or does Silversea use one of the delivery services like FedEx or UPS? We're just a day or two short of one month out from our flight to Athens so I expect we'll see our documents in a week or so.

two days ago we received an email from UPS EXPRESS stating we had a priority AM packaging arriving the following day...from "ROROMAIL ITALIA SPA", well i could not figure out what it could be. i googled the name and all i got were pictures of the warehouse. so yesterday the package came!! it was our "slimmer" SILVER BOX...YEAH. directly from the printer? i guess so. in the past we have always received the box via our TA. either way its here, and we dont leave til 9/7 voyage 3726. we loved this voyage back in 2015 and decided to take it again.

  5. we are on the shadow in sept and used our AEP card to pay, and got an obc AND a "bottle of DOM" . has anyone used this benefit before, and is there a chance to change to DOM to another kind of champagne or ...... caviar? :D

    thanks,

  6. Good morning Lilant ( and anyone else who has received the new Plastic Tags )

We have received the Tags for our forthcoming Wind Cruise and find them impossible to attach - The end that screws into the Screw Holder is too large to pass through the hole in the Plastic Tag - was your attached Lilant as per your photograph when you received them, as ours was not ??? - we may be stupid but at present this new Tag has got us beaten !!!!!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

oh its super easy. thread the side that has the "threads" through the slot then you can just swing it over and the thumb screw will fit over the threads and screw right down.. see below

  7. ...but we love the new box. we were sad to hear the box had "changed" so much and that so many people didnt like the new slimmed down version. for us its still very much part of the whole experience.

anyways, our box JUST arrived and i must say, I LOVE IT! the new modern look is very smart. there ARE luggage tags, two kinds in fact. the paper sticky ones you wrap around the handle and some very nice hard plastic ones, like a credit card size, with a very modern cable tie and thumb screw. IMHO any "new SS cruiser" would be thrilled to get this box.

  8. bohaiboy, did you every find out the answer? we are on the shadow in sept. and we have the same question. SS's website says we do do not need a visa, but when i checked on the russian embassy web site they say if you are NOT with a local tour guide you need a visa. have you sailed yet?

    thanks

  10. Hi

We have just returned from a transatlantic cruise, and visited some of these ports.

    1. Recife and Olinda, we went on a ship tour, which was a waste of time, as we didn't have enough time in Olinda - which seemed to be the most interesting place.

    2. Salvador de Bahia - we went ashore ourselves, and found it an interesting town.

    3. Buzios - by tender. Very small place, but lovely shops and a pleasant walk along the promenade. We did a back to back cruise, and were unable to re-visit on the second leg, because of rough sea. Very disappointed, as had plans for the shopping and eating!!

    4. Don't miss a Tango show!

    hi alldee,

thx for all the great info.
