  1. The aft end of the Verandah Deck is the Waterworks area. Are you thinking of the Coconut Grove Buffet at the aft end of the Lido Deck? There is a bar and the deli and pizza areas there.

Just outside of that are two little stub decks on either side of the ship, open to weather but shaded by the Verandah Deck, that are great places to hold a M&G, or to just get away from the madness for a while. Look back through this thread about two years ago, where APDMOM and I are discussing where to be on the ship for her to photograph me, or more recently in April or May of last year where we started the exchange about her photographing me on that deck in an orange Hawaiian shirt...

ADDED: Found it: Post #379 on thread page 19, then you can follow the link to a rollcall with more pics of the area.

It looked like there was a bar on Verendah deck a little forward of the waterworks area.

The little stub decks look great...I just wasn't sure how many other people would think the same thing...i.e. be too crowded.

  2. We flew into FLL around Thanksgiving. The car rental was a package deal with the airline ticket we bought, so I didn't have an opportunity to read the fine print on the car rental company website. We did not see any signs in the airport, or at the Alamo rental desk. The first thing we saw was on the Turnpike, but we were already driving on it. Seeing as we had never heard of Toll by Plate, we didn't know what was going on until we stopped at the information center just before Key Largo.

I had planned to inquire with Alamo when we returned the car. Unfortunately, we ended up having a medical emergency that caused us to stay longer, and I was pre-occupied arguing about the ridiculous amount they were charging me for the extra days, so I completely forgot about the Turnpike that I had last drove on 4 days earlier (following my husband in an ambulance, I might add).

So far, we have not received a bill from Alamo. How long does it take them to bill usually?

In the future, we will know what to expect, and plan to either get the Sun Pass or make arrangements with the rental company up front. I don't expect it will be Alamo, though after the way they treated us!

Its announced on the highway (the sign says Sunpass or Toll By Plate):

  3. NJDeb,

Thanks for your input! Our first aft balcony cabin was right below the pool deck on a Carnival ship, and we heard them putting out the deck chairs every morning. I can't imagine this would be any more noise than that was.

Do you think that the decks on 10 are larger than the ones on 9 and 8?

    Thanks,

    Maureen

  4. Thanks for your replies!

We have had aft balconies on Carnival before, and have really enjoyed them. It's not nearly as windy when the ship is moving. I do realize that people above can look down onto you, but I really can't imagine that anyone stands there and looks down for very long. But if they do...I don't PLAN on doing anything immoral or illegal on my deck;)

Our only problem with one in the past (and not that big of a problem) was that they washed down the pool deck above us early every morning, and the water came rushing down on our deck. We kept thinking that it was raining, every day!!

    Thanks again!

  5. We have booked a cabin on the Pride of America for next year. It is on deck ten, and is one of the extended balonies on the very back of the ship. I read somewhere on here that there is a lot of noise from the cafe above very early in the morning. Can anyone confirm this? We are not real picky about stuff like this, but if it is really bad, we may consider changing. We have had abins on Carnival before that were both directly under the pool deck and also right above the karoke bar, and neither bother us that much. so what do you think??

    Thanks!
