  1. We will be on the Harmony of the Seas for the first time in 151 days (guess who is  anxious) and we are wondering where is the best spot for sail away. Wife and I have cruised before but we will have some first timers with us. My two thoughts are as follows:

    1. Since we are in a suite the sun deck would be a good spot (less crowded)

    2. On our balcony with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. We are on the starboard side.

Looking for suggestions, the first timers are grandchild and friend thinking they will eventually join the younger crowd on the pool deck for the organized party. Just wanted to make this first experience for them a little special, need your expert help. Thank You in advance.

  2. When we cruised out of Miami we always flew into Fort Lauderdale (flights cost less flying to FLL) the night before and stayed at the Riverside Hotel which is right downtown. The Italian bakery across the street is to die for. On the morning of the cruise we would have Larry's Limo booked for the trip to the port. This was the best stress free way for us to enjoy our cruise adventure. Highly recommend.

  3. If I'm not mistaken the Harmony of the Seas was scheduled for drydock the month of April 2021. I have not seem much information as to the extent of the up fitting which took place during this period or if it actually took place. We are sailing on her in February 2022 and are curious if new attractions were added or was this new carpeting, paint, ship infrastructure etc. kinda of update.

  4. We are on deck 10 midship, my thought was to play Pandora from my smart phone while on the balcony. OK for a "plan B" leave the smartphone in the room tuned to Pandora and transmit to a portable Bluetooth speaker on the patio. I think the signal will not go through the sliding patio door so maybe keeping it open. Your thoughts ?

  5. We are returning to St. Thomas on the Harmony of the Seas in February and it has been a long time since our last visit there. My question is does this ship dock at Havensight ?  If so I remember it was a short walk to the main shopping district am I correct ? If not what is the best mode of transportation to the main shopping area, Cab ?   Thank You in advance for your input.

  6. We are going on our cruise next week and with our package we had OBC plus a small excursion credit. When talking to an NCL excursion representative via telephone I was told while reserving a cabana at the private island that I would get a 15% discount on the cost because I was a latitude member plus I could also apply my OBC and excursion credit to the cost of the cabana. Sounds good to me but we'll see. Just thought I'd share this with everyone.

  7. My husband never liked cruising. Every time I wanted to book, we had a disagreement.

Our last land vacation (and there was a cruise involved) was 3 years ago.....Miami and a cruise. Since then it's been all cruising and all his complaining.

We live in NYC and don't have any financial issues. Actually, I think we'd be considered well off. We live right by the cruise terminal...just a short cab ride away.

So, I was trying to book this kind of trip again....a cruise and some time in Miami for February. Well, the cost of the land portion, the cost of the airfare, the transportation to/from airports etc And then, when on the land, you have the cost of food and other entertainment. Oh, and the cost of the cruise. My final estimate was something like 4 times the cost of our last NCL cruise assuming we don't spend very much on the land portion of the trip. I didn't factor in side trips, the necessary jewelry and other misc expenses. It's not the money....it's the value for the money. Bottom line...it would have been much more than 4 times.

And then the logistics of getting the plane, being on the plane, planes clipping wings on take-off (in short, we really don't want to bother with flying).

So, guess who wants to go on a cruise again in February and spring for all the bells and whistles!

We are spending a couple days in Ft. Lauderdale in a hotel on Los Olas Blvd. prior to our Escape cruise out of Miami. You may want to consider something along those lines. I agree with two wheels up about cruising in a Haven suite.

  8. You are correct, you can't sign up until onboard. It's called "Escape from the big top" and has a circus/magic theme.

We used the Haven concierge. I think any guest services would be able, but make Haven do it as they may have more clout (reserved space). We signed up on day 2 and got a spot on the last night of the cruise. So you should probably sign up as soon as possible.

They hold it at the Supper Club. It's not an "escape room" but a series of puzzles to solve and compete against other teams in a timed event. They teamed us up in groups of about 8. I enjoy puzzles, but man this thing was hard. Before it starts, get your team into sub-teams to solve the different puzzles.

In our session, the winners were either geniuses or have played before. Most of us left scratching our heads.

Thanks everyone keep the info coming

  9. Great review as always; I have been a member for several years, QUESTION: We will be going on an Escape Christmas cruise this year and would like to participate in the Escape room circus (I think that is what it is called). From my reading on the boards you can only sign up for it when on board the ship, would you know which days this event is offered and where do you sign up for it ? Guest services ? Haven concierge ?

    THANK YOU in advance.

  10. In April 2017 we celebrated our 50 wedding anniversary on the Escape in a Haven suite with some family and friends. Over the past several years we have taken a number of cruises with family and it was more of a force march type vacation but our Escape cruise in April was very relaxing. We stayed on the ship when in two of the ports and just enjoyed the ship. The staff onboard could not be more accommodating; job well done. We enjoyed it so much we are going on a Christmas cruise on the Escape with the same itinerary to discover parts of the ship we did not have time to enjoy on our first Escape cruise. What better testament to the ambiance of the Escape we experienced the first time we visited her.

  11. Our safety drill station was O'Sheehans. We arrived about 10 min. before start of drill and ended up at the back of the restaurant. When the drill is over you have about 4000 going different directions and the elevator banks are overwhelmed. Also, the starboard side has the prettiest views of South Beach, etc. as you leave the channel. So to get back up to the top decks you need to be well placed and ready to move when the drill is over - even if you take the stairs. We went to deck 8 and 5:00 Somewhere was backed up. So if you want a cocktail perhaps hit one of the other bars and then go out to the starboard Waterfront. Hope this helps!

Great information forgot about the traffic flow after the drill. Based on this and assuming the ship leaves promptly at 4:00 PM you can possibly miss some of the ship getting underway waiting for a drink or fighting the crowd trying to get to a good spot to view Miami.

  12. Hi everyone, quick question, we are planning a sail away party for our group and we are trying to sort out what time to meet. Our ship (Escape 4/29/17) is scheduled to leave at 4:00 PM and earlier I thought I read on the boards the lifeboat drill is at 4:30 PM. Are these good times to work with?
