I lost 3.5 this week... 1 week till Alaska!

Sounds great, I live in the centre of England have never been to Scotland and only made it to Ireland (Dublin) for the first time last year.... Evil place it is, got me very VERY drunk! lol. Be warned if you are a drinker, the prices in Temple bar area are ridiculously expensive!

it might be a chain upgrade type thing... you bid to upgrade but you only get it if someone in your possible upgrade room bids to upgrade too! Is there availability on Haven and suites etc?

10 of us went on the Epic for our first cruise last year, 11 night canaries and Madeira.... It was amazing, we felt like royalty, never been treated so well in our lives, Loved it, got us hooked on cruising!

Love this!!!! An hour ago I warned my cat (Brian) that momma was going to Alaska in 2 weeks so he could start getting used to the idea lol

He always figures it out when the suitcases come down! he gets moody!

Wow, lots of good posts! Wish I could, but ate baaad and back up 3lbs to 192.

 

On the plus side - still in my comfort zone and 7 days and counting to Shootr's Epic UK Adventure!

Hi, This time in 4 weeks I will be on my way to the US for a 14 day Alaska cruise, I have been losing weight in preparation for all the layers I will more than likely have to wear and will be eating and drinking whatever I want (within reason) as reward while away! I put 8lb on on my 7 day cruise in Jan in Dubai and I got it off in the next 2 weeks, So it's not too much of a problem but would like to lessen the damage...

I am planning on walking laps out on deck as often as possible (the scenery should keep me at it!) and I am going to try and use the stairs only (no lifts)...

What else can I do to try and limit how much I gain?

Hi all, I lost 2lb this week, taking me to 49.5 lb lost. This time in 6 weeks I'll be on the train to London and on my way to my 2 week Alaska cruise!!!! Am gagging for a day off plan but trying my hardest to last til the cruise...where I'll have 14 'bad' days lol

I lost 3lb this week, so 43.5 lost in prep for Alaska cruise, I figure I need to be smaller ready for wearing lots of jumpers and a coat else I really will look massive lol

9 weeks today I leave...

have been reading ALOT of Alaska reviews and one thing I have heard said a few times is that if you go first thing they have to 'go find' the whales, if you go a little later they already know where they are so can go straight to them (in theory!)

Glad you all enjoyed the superbowl, being in England and not into American football I didn't watch but one of my brothers always has a sb party, definitely catching on here! GaGa's performance was brilliant, have watched it a few times now... Saw on fb this morning that she has been trashed online for her 'gut'... people commenting that she has an overhang! I wish I had a tummy the size of hers. She put on a bit of weight a few years ago and has done brilliant to get back to what she is now!!!!

I booked the Bering sea crab tour on Friday for May... was down as sold out on their site but booked through viator. My husband has always watched deadliest catch so its my 'expensive' excursion for this trip!

also in Bahrain in the port terminal they had free henna tattoo's, I had one on my hand. someone in my party had been told £30 for one in Dubai!! we both had it done and was really chuffed with it.

Never been on a small ship b4, hows the entertainment? was there any films?

 

It'll be my first time on Thomson cruises as well as first time (apart from a short layover in Dubai in 2015) in the region..

 

So If any one has a tips I'd appreciate. Such as must dos, and don'ts... We have a sea day on a Friday (think that coincides with Pray day... a bit lucky there :s

 

Is it true that if I check my baggage in Gatwick the next time I'll see them is 'outside the cabin'?? flying thomson...

 

Plus I've heard Thomson charge for shuttle buses in Europe, but are free in the UAE.. any truth? if not how much did the cost?

 

Lastly I am thinking of buying a HOHO triple ticket (24hours each in Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Dubai) for the BIGBUSTOUR, but its coming up (offal site) as £108PP which seems a tad step. Any other options to see the good stuff?

 

Almost forgot to ask about the use of Sterling. As the ship is AI and on board spend is sterling. I am really hoping to get away with only bring a Sterling ££ and whatever spare € and $ I have. will that be sensible enough to still see and do the good stuff...

All shuttles were free, in Bahrain the shuttle took you to the 'souk' area, you couldn't get in or out of port unless on the shuttle, it took 45 mins going out and an hour coming back, some people got straight back on the bus when it got there, they weren't impressed. we had a wonder round and had a drink in mcdonalds for some free wifi.

in Muscat there was a shuttle to Muscat but we just wondered around the port area Muttrah, theres a souk and lots of cafes with free wifi, asked for am 'omani' drink and was advised Mango juice was the thing so had one.. delish!

in Khasab, If you haven't got a trip booked then I would stop on the ship, we booked the dhow cruise with Dolphin dhow cruises and it was amazing, they picked you up at the port (we tendered here, NOTHING where the tender docks) and was only our party of 10 and another couple off the ship on it, had it practically to ourselves, saw dolphins and snorkelled, amazing! cheaper than thomsons excursiontoo of course. Thomson had a shuttle into khasab 10 minutes away, was only because we caught an early tender as all the Thomson trips were tendering at lunch time that we had time, Khasab has about 4-5 souvenir shops and that it, as I said, if you don't have a trip booked class it as a sea day.

In Abu Dhabi they had a shuttle to the Marina mall, ideal to get to the Etihad towers or Emerald palace, taxi's are waiting where the bus drops you off. I had lunch at the rotating restaurant up the tower at the mall, was in-expensive as no minimum spend like a lot of places have in Dubai for somewhere like that.

In Dubai there is a free shuttle to Mercato mall, they just ask you go inside for a look, then you can taxi other places or to a metro stop. taxi's aplenty at the port... make sure you get them to put the metre on and not agree a price, taxis are cheap if metred.

In Bahrain we heard prices shouted out in GBP, USD, UADirham and euros.. they take anything! We did take £100 worth of dirham with us to use in Dubai and Abu Dhabi though, they took dhirum in oman too, its one Omani rial equals 10 dirham so easy to work out when you see/hear prices.

You will have a brilliant time!

righto... just read a new review from when they went last june and they got the shuttle to the glacier and the whale watching tour picked them up from there but yes will get taxi details, thanks

We are in port 2-10pm on a Saturday and from the times I have found on the website it says its closed Saturday afternoon, will this be the case or if ships are in does it allow for this?
