  1. Any info on these - 7083 or 7086 - cat H on Navigation deck?

Unusual, as most H cat are on lower promenade. I tried our favorite cabin info site and couldn't find anything. They are on the stern and appear to have a partial view of a little deck. Is this deck accessible to anyone?

Pics from Stateroom 7086 of the sister ship Volendam.

Deck is open to all, but was generally uncrowded on the Alaska Trip. Attracts a few wake-watchers.

The deck is brightly lit at night which meant I could not see the wake in the dark. Was hoping to see some glowing phosphorescence.

Gotta go now. Boarding the Veendam in the morning.

  2. I have tried to find it to no avail. Where is the 'upgrade' preference location on their site?

When you request a specific stateroom number during the HAL on-line booking process, a check box is present that says something to the effect of "I will consider upgrades". Click it to check it ON or uncheck it. I am not aware that this option is available to change after you submit your original booking. But, I have only been on one cruise so far.

Of course, if you contact your TA or PCC, they may be able to change your status.

Update to post. I captured the question here.

    Flexible in your stateroom choice?

    Yes No

In some instances, we may be able to assign you to a higher-category stateroom at no additional cost. Keep in mind that a change in stateroom assignment is not guaranteed. Also, any reassigned stateroom may be located on a different part of the deck or on a lower deck than the stateroom you originally chose.

Select 'No' if you have a specific stateroom requirement, such as a mid-ship location.

Guests that choose this option can dine anytime the dining room is open (5:15pm to 9:00pm).

  3. "The Veendam and Rotterdam ships were chosen first to have their aft pools removed and put in what was called a "Retreat" ..... Those wavy, shallow streams didn't go over very well so HAL removed them and put in hot tubs."

The Holland America website draws the hot tub patterns in the 2D floor plan of MS Veendam, but they still present the "wavy, shallow streams" in the 3D virtual view for the Retreat . No surprise that people are confused. So, basically, the aft Retreat deck chairs are back on "dry land".

  4. Usually the Volendam heads to Australia from Alaska at the end of the season.

Cannot see for late 2017, but in Sept 2016, the Volendam makes a North Pacific crossing. Try the HAL advanced search planning section and try various months and use the region South Pacific to narrow it down.

  5. My friends and I are doing the Montreal to Boston cruise next October. I know hotels sell out quickly that time of year so I'm being proactive. Can anyone suggest a hotel or an area we should look that is convenient for cruisers? We want to do the tourist thing so we are going in a day or two ahead. I have never been and have no idea where the port is located. Any help would be appreciated.:)

The cruise terminal is on Alexandra Quay in Old Port (Vieux Port in french). If you stay at one of the nearby boutique hotels, you could walk to the terminal (luggage allowing). As others have said, any hotel in Old Port, Old Montreal area, or even business district downtown will be a short cab ride to the terminal on departure day. Last October, I did the cruise Montreal-Boston-Montreal through that port.
