  1. I was in a similar situation when my travel companion tested through Princess. That is never going to happen again. We will always test on our own and bring the negative result. If someone tests positive, we will be the judge of what to do from there.
  2. I just saw news that travelling in Europe is the cheapest it's been in a long time. If I could figure out how to get there in a hot air balloon or something (that uses no gas), I would go.
  3. If I can bring a creme brulee torch through TSA, then i would think one could bring a grill through Norwegian.
  4. I don't see the difference? I don't mean to make this a bigger deal than it really is, but I just don't like people looking on us as going back to the "naughty room" when it's just secondary screening. I feel judgmental eyes on the back of my head, whether real or imagined. I also got called to secondary screening at the U.S. border twice--once because I was applying for immigration, and once simply because I was slow to drive up to the window and sat at the red light for too long. I think I also answered the border agent wrong when he asked when was the last time I had been to the United States.
  5. CCL stock is not having a good day today. Down 5%. I see no news, and S&P 500 is only down 1%.
  6. We basically paid $100 and were asked to put about $15 of gas in it at the end. It was in decent condition, but had enough problems to make it fun. 🙂 It backfired a lot when I started it. Rascoe was a nice guy with not a lot of money; I was glad to help.
  7. OK so I must ask. You really travel with a creme brulee torch?? It was a mistake. I had not fully unpacked my carry-on bag before I packed it to fly. I could see myself making the same mistake with a concealed handgun, since I conceal it so tightly. It's easy to forget. Only thing stopping me from forgetting is that it's such a big no-no--like leaving your wallet or wedding ring behind--only worse.
  8. But if you can get through TSA, you will probably get through cruise security. Anyway the point is that I wouldn't call it the "naughty" room. They can take you back for multiple reasons, and not all of them--probably not even most of them--involve you being naughty.
  9. Since I do have personal experience with the TSA, I wouldn't call it the "naughty" room. I kept getting flagged for explosives. TSA did a full patdown with the front of their hands. In the end, a supervisor just let me through. Getting on the cruise ship was a breeze thereafter. Meanwhile, on another trip I had a creme brûlée torch in my carry-on (I forgot it was there). Went right through, no issues. It even had propane.
  10. ? In other words, some port days, the time you have to be on ship concides with dinner time. When are the lines long? On At Sea days, or port days when everybody is on board only part of the time the MDRs are open? On Princess, we could go to the MDR right when it opens at 5pm and walk right in. And then we'd walk out of MDR after we were done (but right before a show in the theatre), and there would be a long line. We would frequently turn down the post-dinner coffee, out of courtesy to the people waiting in line.
  11. I've got similar questions. Can we book reservations last-minute after we try to go to the MDR and the lines are really long, with any luck? Is there a thread/article somewhere for when the long lines are on Norwegian (e.g. on At Sea days vs. port days with a 6pm muster call)?
  12. Princess' reputation is more important than the change. They should give you the change.

    Skagway

The only times I have really had a stellar time in Skagway are when I took a tour that went up toward the Yukon and White Pass, or when I ferried to Haines and did the Eagle Preserve Float Trip. The rental car counts.
  14. I was lucky to do the Bering Sea Fishermen using Toursaver. But that was before people figured out that this tour is good.

    Packing

Yes, you might need to wear shorts. That's what layers are. If for no other reason than you need them in the Fitness Center on at-sea days. If it's in the 50's and we're doing hiking, I might wear shorts and a sweatshirt.
  16. Ketchikan is my "walk around town and shop" port; especially when that port-of-call is short. The Creek Street salmon run is good when it's in season, anyway.
  17. You might want to do a land-first in mid-May? I love mid-May, but in May I would do a land-last. But then, I don't like the cruisetours, either. I do the land portion self-guided.
  18. For Haines, I like the Eagle Preserve Float Tour the best. Might not be available through the ship. For Juneau, a combined Mendenhall+Whale Watching trip is basically the go-to tour. If you've never been to Juneau & never done it before, just do that. You can shop & there are other things to do, but for your first trip to Juneau I don't think it is really necessary to shop.
  19. I decided on Norwegian, the reason being that the sailing goes to Sitka and ISP. Now we have a lot of work to do figuring out the excursions. Never been to Sitka before.
  20. There's a Raptor Center in Ketchikan? It's all for the best--I didn't even know.
  21. Platinum means you're not eligible for the Blue medallion exclusive event, where first-time Princess cruisers are eligible for over $1000 in prizes.
  22. I never, ever, ever want to face you in a trivia contest.
