  1. Agree Regarding the staff. Was on jewel last week. Beside our waiters in MDR and room attendant most staff was disinterested and made no effort to spice things up. Tho I ve only been on the liberty before , one of the things that made me wanna cruise again was the jolly mood onboard. Lacking on this ship.

  2. There is an 18% service charge on all beverage packages, even the water package.

Must be included in the price then, cause when I bought the two premium packages and two select packages an amout was stated on the service charge on all four packages, but on the two royal replendish and one royal refreshment(?) the service charge was stated as 0.00 on all of them.

The alcoholic ones was under the 20% advert in cruise planner.

  3. Couple of loose ends to add:

    Kids Club aka Adventure Ocean

My son absolutely loved it. He averaged 1 session per day, and only did kids club dinner one night. He would have gone more if he could of, but of course I want to spend time with him on vacation as well. All of the staff seemed very engaged and all of the kids seemed to be having a blast. One semi-strange thing was that the 6-8 & 9-11 groups were combined. I had no issue with it, but was surprised given the number of children sailing. The average session seemed to have around 30 kids in the two groups. I did not use the paid lunch option or the late night party zone.

Chair Hogs, Guest Services and other tidbits

As mentioned in other posts, chair hogs were horrible, even compared to other ships, with people resorting to putting a towel on the ground, taking regular cafe chairs, etc. There did not seem to be any pool attendant monitoring chairs, and the cruise lines as a collective do need to come up with a solution. On this class of ship, only having one general pool also hurt, as it was also the activity pool, so not usable during contests.

Guest Services lines did seem to be longer than average on this ship compared to other. I know it is a thankless job, but having one more person staffed would have really helped with lines.

Lastly, with the non alcoholic drink package, getting Red Bull (I had one per day) had mixed results. Most bars served without issue, but a couple did not. Stated energy drinks were extra, but the virgin mixed drinks with the energy drink were included?

    Any other questions?

    Spamming you with questions:)

With the royal replenish, we`ve bought that aswell, did you get to choose what you like from the cafe lattè tude (still seattle`s best?)

Also were there any mini-disco event with or without the kids club where the kids under 11 could dance?

re the chair hogging issue, was it any free sunbeds/chairs on the the upper deck away from the pool area, or maybe the Radience class does have that kinda space around the running track like Freedom class does?

  4. We are on the Jewel of the Seas right now and are very disappointed by the lack of effort put in by the pool attendants. They make no effort to collect towels from beds that have been empty for over 2 hours never mind 30 mins. One of them stated that there are simply not enough beds for everyone and they do not carry any in storage. So tough! I have never seen people lying on the deck on their towels before as on this ship. They are also turning a blind eye to the many children in the adults only pool and hot tub. Tried reporting it but was just shrugged off. It's not a big problem for us, we just sit on the balcony but for guests in inside or outside cabins, it's not good.

Does the ship feel overcrowded on sea day in general or just the pool area? Looks like our sailing 17th july is sold out (as good as), so a little worried about that.

  5.

Hi Kirm, relax and enjoy the cruise. I'm sure the kids won't get board. The food on board is really good, you've got to try the kummelweck! Definately recommend dinner in the main dinning room, the staff/waiters make it so special. :)

Do they have the kummelweck every day on jewel now? Guess they only serve it in the solarium cafè. Is the quality of others foods in the solarium decent aswell?

  6. We were just on Jewel in the Mediterranean. Same menus as we've had before. Would live to see a picture of a "new"menu. Giovanni's was new on Jewel and they had a different menu than we've had before. And IMHO....not as good. I think they're testing new menu. Rumor has it that they're changing MDR menus.....and that would be good.

    is that included 18% grats?

  8. During the day I would accumulate a few extra beers and put them in the cabin fridge for consumption while getting ready for dinner.

Usually, I would grab more the first day then during the next days would just put them in my backpack. That eliminated running to the cabin every time I grab one so it would be cold. Once I was ahead by 3-4 in the fridge then I just loaded warm from my backpack at the end of the day on deck.

DW drinks wine so I order from Gifts and Gear a few bottles and some champagne. Sometimes I order them all the second day other times I spread them out over the next few days. No real advantage I guess.

BTW: I found the beers in the mini-fridge to be the same price as the bar or room service, so no real advantage to room service unless your brand isn't in the fridge.

Good idè. Think I ll adopt that, collecting beer during daytime and stock fridge for late night drink on balcony. Ever experienced the bartenders refusing to give you an unopened bottle of beer?
