  1. Hi Judy, like Pet we also love Voyager and soon taking our 3rd cruise on her. I have been checking out the review and a lot of the issues seem to be pretty specific to the Asian cruise season and the changeover of staff on the repo. Some of the complaints I am reading are also pretty ludicrous and I am definitely taking them with a huge grain of salt.

We have never had any significant issues sailing Voyager and are looking forward to our next one. We have met lovely people, had some great meals - Voyager has one of my favourite windjammers! - had great staff, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time every trip.

Some things I have noticed that you might want to plan around; there can be pretty long lines at the specialty coffee area of cafe promenade, the pool can get crowded for school holiday sailings like yours will be, and some activities can also be crowded so go a bit early to get good seats.

    Have a wonderful cruise :)

Thank you BekkaW for your great advice. Really good to hear comments from people like you and others who had been on the Voyager.

Since our company closes during the Christmas/New Year break and our daughter is on school holidays, it's the perfect time for us to go, although it's the most expensive time of the year, it seems.

I've already organised all our specialty dining, beverages, VOOM, as well as the excursions.

Any other tips? Am I forgetting anything else?

    Again, thank you.

    Regards,

    Judy

  2. Hi Judy - We have sailed on Voyager 4 times over the years and are booked on our 5th next April doing the same cruise as yourself, but have to travel 10,000 miles to join the ship! No cruise is perfect and the Voyager has its faults but mostly down to poor management or simply bad luck on the day. Go in with the glass half full attitude, not half empty and you will have a great time.

    Pet:)

Thanks Pet. Really appreciate your time in responding. From your comment, I am relieved and will try to always remember to be positive as this is our first cruise ever.

    Cheers,

    Judy

  3. We have sailed on some horrible cruise reviews. We have always had a great time. Sometimes things are not perfect, why worry. It is your vacation go & have fun.

    Thanks FOXTROT.

I really just got worried after reading that topic, where a few of the cruisers had shared the same bad experience.

But after reading whatishallcallmyself's response to this topic, I'm somewhat relieved.

    Again, thank you.

    Cheers,

    Judy

  4. I was on the repositioning cruise from Singapore to Sydney and we had a great time! There was a problem with tendering in Port Douglas but that was the fault of the port authorities the captain did apologise several times! We got up and got tender tickets early and where off on the first tender each time no problem! The food and service was great, entertainment not so good but it was based more towards the Australian guests so we did not get some of the jokes! (I'm English)

We got sun beds every day no problem, the drinks package was good, I would go on Voyager again if the itinerary suited me, don't worry you will have a great time!

There was a lot of new staff on this cruise as well so only to be expected there was a few niggles with some people but go with an open mind relax and enjoy x

Thank you for taking your time to respond, and most especially in reminding me to go with an "open mind" and to enjoy it.

  5. Hi all,

There's a thread here about how bad their experience with the Voyager's Reposition cruise in Singapore.

It really makes me worried about our upcoming Christmas sailing with Voyager departing Sydney to the South Pacific.

If they had a bad repo cruise with the Voyager, does that mean we will have a worst one too? (ie stinky room, guest services not addressing the issues etc)?

I don't think we can cancel anymore.

    Any tips or ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Judy

  6. This size ship doesn't take reservations, one show that may be crowded is ice show so get there early, love this size RCCL ship, ice show is repeated several times

Thanks George C. Does that mean we can watch the ice show more than once?

Would be nice though if we can book and organise all activities before boarding.

  7. Judy, you don't need to book a private lesson for her. Many passengers are first-time Flow Riders. :) The staff will help her. She could watch for a little while, see what people are doing, and then try it herself (you'll need to sign a waiver for her first). The private lessons are expensive but certainly available and not mandatory.

    Have fun. :)

    Thanks Langley Cruisers.

My daughter just read your comment and she said she doesn't need to be enrolled in the private flowrider lessons.

    Regards,

    Judy

  8. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond.

Since we are first time cruisers, we decided it's best for us to book the ship's excursions.

Just for peace of mind that the ship will wait for us if the excursion is running late back to the ship.

    Regards,

    Judy

  9. Hi there,

We are first-timer in cruising, on Voyager of the Seas for the Christmas Sailing on December 20, 2016.

I’ve already booked our excursions, dining, beverages, and the internet access. However, I still cannot book for the Activities and Shows.

Any idea when would the Activities (i.e. Flow Rider, Ice Skating, Rock Climbing) and Shows be available for booking online?

Any information will be much appreciated.

    Thanking you in advance,

    Judy

N.B. I've already posted this in "First-Timer Cruiser".

  11. Hi BekkaW,

We would be on Voyager for the Christmas sailing to the South Pacific this year and a bit worried about the mattress.

Did you order your mattress topper before the cruise?

Perhaps we should bring our own mattress topper but worried as well that RCI might take them away.

    Regards,

    Judy

  12. It is against their rules to bring water onboard, but they usually don't enforce that rule.

    Hi Clarea,

Thank you for this post. We were initially thinking of bringing in water, as I've read in a lot of posts that people bring in water.

Since it's against the rules, we've now purchased the Evian package to be delivered to our cabin on our day 1.

    Regards,

    Judy

  13. Hi there,

It's our first time to cruise.

We are booked on Voyager of the Seas on December 20 Sydney to South Pacific.

Is it better to book the Shore Excursions on board or prior to boarding? I don't know if there's any difference on price when booking on board.

If we book it now, would we be able to cancel the excursion if the weather is bad?

    Thanks in advance.

    Judy
