  1. For my starters I ordered the jalapeño poppers and the venison spring roll. Both were good. For mains I ordered the chicken pot pie and the pork picatta. I didn't care for the pork dish but the pot pie was good. For dessert I had the amaretto cake.
  2. Last night's dinner menu is a new menu for me. I think we are about out of new ones, they didn't spread them out real well.
  3. I found out the festivities in Puntarenas yesterday were for us to celebrate us being the first ship of the season. The president of Costa Rica even showed up and came onboard. As far as I know he did not make a public appearance onboard but that is still pretty cool. Sunset as we were leaving Puntarenas. You could still hear the drums in the distance as we sailed away. A very nice experience and wonderful welcome from the Costa Rican people.
  4. The internet is being a pain again. It went down last night and is still very slow this am. Ironically it started having issues as I was purchasing wifi for some cruises before the price went up.
  5. All checked in for dinner. Under a 10 minute wait much better tonight. New menu to try out also.
  6. I went for some lunch while there was a break in the trivia. Lunch offerings. My plate Next trivia isn't until 3 so gonna run up to the gym for a bit of exercise.
  7. I'm here for trivia which was supposed to start one minute ago but there is nobody here to host. Hmmm 🤔
  8. Back on the ship after a nice day exploring Puntarenas. The weather was warm as you would expect without being too hot. There was lots of shopping to be had as soon as you got off the pier. Reasonable prices and not too many pushy vendors. I found a locally designed t-shirt for $12 that I'm happy with. There was also some sort of parade and festivities going on so the atmosphere was very festive. The beach right off the pier did not look very inviting but everything else in the immediate area was nice.
  9. Good morning. We are docked in Puntarenas and apparently the dock is level with the cabins on deck 1. I'm not sure who was more surprised to learn that, me when I opened my curtain in my underwear or the crew on the other side of my window 😅.
  10. My 33 day cruise is half way over. Going to bed. Up next, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
  11. Dinner was OK. The salmon was the only thing good although nothing was bad its just nothing else was more than just ok. Certainly not worth the wait. Thankfully like I said this is not the norm. Food and service have been very good most nights.
  12. For my starter I got the ragout of wild mushroom. I also got the oysters Rockefeller. They are there I promise 🧐 For my mains I ordered the ancho roasted salmon and the beef wellington. For dessert I had a tasty bit very sad piece of baked alaska. I suspect the presentation was quite different in 1987.
  13. Dinner was.....long. I won't complain about the wait time to get in. Carnival does MTD right and royal could learn a thing or two. Dinner service, though, took way long Lee than it needed to, almost two hours. This was an anomaly and I'll chalk it up to formal night, service has usually been much better. Tonight's throwback menu.
  14. Captain's reception was nice. Very similar to the vifp party without the video. Drinks were flowing freely. I may have had two when all I wanted was a diet Pepsi 🤭. Never did get that diet Pepsi lol. Checked in now for dinner. It is a 70-80 minute wait. Yikes must be the whole ship is hungry at the same time. If I'm not at dinner by 7 I may need to attend the next Captain's reception 😁
  15. BREAKING NEWS: Masks may now come off. Excellent news. I was trying to continue catching up, but every time I tried to type my mom started chatting me up lol. I'm heading off now to the captains reception with my face on full display 😁
  16. In-between trivias I went to Lido for some lunch. Today's menu. My plate came from chopsticks.
  17. Flashback: Going back to Sunday after coming back in from Cabo I did a trivia marathon. This is my favorite time to do it when most people are on shore. Unfortunately I did not win any, and the prize was a medal instead of the coveted ship on a stick.
  18. I admit I failed today. I was getting up to go and a show came on the TV I wanted to watch. So i stayed. The show was no good and then the signal went out halfway through. O well, I have two more journeys cruises booked next year to try again 😀.
  19. 80s throwback is in full swing this morning. They had frog racing this morning and a thriller dance class. The fun squad is dressed in their 80s attire and there are 80s photo backdrops up. I'm gonna check out the horse racing at 115 and maybe stay for old fashioned bingo.
  20. Went up to the walking track first thing today before it got too hot. All the top decks were reopen this morning. It is still a little windy but much better than last night. Then I went to brunch and ordered the skillet cake for the first time. This was good but probably not something I can eat too often - way too high in calories.
  21. Also looks like there will be a captains reception in the theater. I'm hoping that means drinks. Noticed there was no midnight buffet on the schedule. Would have been cute to see but I couldn't possibly eat anything that late at night.
  22. Nope. Spicy foods for dinner makes for a restless night's sleep these days. Oh well, that dinner was worth it. Haven't looked outside yet but it feels like we are still sailing through heavy winds. Going to slowly get ready and make my way to brunch.
  23. All of the upper decks were closed off this evening. I saw on the map channel while working out wind speeds of up to 62mph. By the time I was done they had dropped to 42mph and only deck 10 and 11 fwd were closed off. We are still being jiggled around a bit but it should make for a great night's sleep which is where I am headed to now. Next up, throwback day at sea.
