  1. Easy answer for me. Just back from one way Princess Cruise Whittier to Vancouver. Used Ketchikan Air tours with a great pilot and owner, Randy. He partners with Michelle at Island wings. Island Wings could not accommodate us and we are really glad that we went with Randy at their recommendation. He was calm, cool, and collective and offered a great flight and commentary, without being overly talkative. Beautiful plane with headsets and honestly, it was just the easiest Excursion we had on this Alaskan cruise. This was my third time to Alaska, third time to Ketchikan, and my 2 previous bookings with Island Air were cancelled, due to weather and FAA ground stops. I'm not the best flyer, so I get the nervousness, but I would do this again in a heartbeat. The views are amazing. As far as time goes, we took a 2 o'clock flight, and it was perfect. There are typically morning clouds and therefore your flights could be canceled or not as viewable, so later in the day maybe a little better. Definitely try to go to Misty Fjords. Go big or go home.... :)

  2. Just returned from one week cruise Whittier to Vancouver. My 3rd Alaskan cruise... I should have known better. I completely overpacked. Do not go through the packing ordeal by saying to yourself outfit Monday night, outfit Tuesday day, outfit Tuesday night, etc. You will re-wear many things. You will wear many of the same things because they are comfortable. I wore less than two-thirds of what I brought. And I only packed one large suitcase. We had good weather and we had a little bit of rain. It was never chilly except for one day and Glacier Bay. But even that was tolerable with just a sweater and a rain jacket. Even if you have to do a couple pieces of laundry on board, it's doable. And quite frankly they do a great job. Do yourself a favor and do not overthink it. I could kick myself for yet a third time lugging too much stuff back and forth. And for the record, formal night was hardly formal. I have done 26 Princess Cruises and this was the least formal of all formal nights. That said we did have fun dressing up and taking pictures, but certainly the second formal night was not well attended and most people just wore nicer clothes but not formal wear. Have fun on your cruise. Alaska is awesome.

  3. Thank you for your candid description of your cruise. I just landed in Anchorage last night and am boarding the Coral Princess tomorrow. It's helpful to have your views and notes as we embark tomorrow. Will be interesting to see that "entertainer" in Crooners. I've witnessed similar performers on performers like that before and previous Princess cruises, but not in a long time. Those tactics won't go very far with us, rest assured. I wonder how much control the CD has over entertainment and entertainers on board, as they do on other Cruise Lines.

Oh thanks again, and welcome home.

  4. Star Princess = great ship! My first Princess cruise was on her 3rd voyage way back when...:D On a 14-day cruise to Alaska where you'll likely be packing additional "warm" clothes, I would definitely make the switch. You'll have more stuff and appreciate the extra room. The additional space in the bathroom and tub vs. tiny shower is enough to sway me, but the 14-day factor would be the deciding ticket. I love having the extra storage space, and sofa & coffee table vs. just the chair. But hey, this is just my opinion.
