  1. We got the Cheers! package our first cruise last December (a 4 day cruise) and barely broke even so I debated getting it for our next cruise in Feb '18 ( a 5-day cruise). I finally decided to go ahead and get it again. I'm a cocktail or champagne person so they add up fast. And know that I know about the Alchemy Bar, I'll hit it up earlier in the cruise rather than later. (it took me awhile to figure out what it was all about). Add to that the fact that you can get Honest Tea at the coffee bar instead of having to drink the funky tasting stuff available at the self serve stations on Lido, I'll probably get more than my money's worth this trip. While hubby does drink beer, when he's with me he usually goes for the fru-fru stuff that I drink and he likes milkshakes (which he didn't know were included last trip) so he'll probably get his money's worth as well. Even if we fall short a bit like last trip, it's nice not having to worry about how much your spending every time you order a beverage.

  2. Since you tell them whether you want morning or evening service, they know the general time that you will be out of the room. So why would you need a door hanger? They are required to check in the room daily anyway so the hanger is trivial.

I don't remember ever informing anyone of either option. Is it a card in the room that you put out on your door knob?

  3. To me too. I barely saw mine last cruise. Low and behold every time in the morning when I went out I came back to an ice bucket full. Never asked for one and have no idea how they knew I was gone because I didn’t see them in the hall. I don’t need them pestering me while I’m in my cabin and if they want to chat, great. If not that’s cool too.

We only got ice when I left a note that I wanted ice (even though I left a note that stated "please keep ice bucket full each day"), our bed was made and we did get fresh towels so that was good, but the floor was never vacuumed (and hadn't been before we got to the room the first day because there was crumbs on the floor underneath the chair when we got to our room the first day). I don't expect to have a chatty conversation but it would have been nice if she didn't keep stopping us and ask what cabin we were in and if she'd met us yet.

  4. Guess they figure if you’re not “Snoozin” you’re Cruizin. They always know when you’re out of your cabin anyway. They’re like ninjas!

Ours on our last cruise must have been deathly afraid of us since they only time they ever came to our cabin was when we were gone. We saw her once while we were in our room (the second day). A couple other times we saw her in the hallway and each time it was like she'd never seen us before. After all I'd read about how awesome rooms stewards are, I wasn't impressed. Hope the steward on our next cruise is much better.

  5. I booked independently for the Rum Runners Tour. Rum tasting, conch fritters, tour of Graycliff Mansion, gourmet handmade chocolates samples, handmade ice cream sample, tour of small distillery and a rum drink. Neither hubby or I are rum drinkers but it was a fun tour! Great history of the Bahamas and it's part in the rum runners trade. A lot of walking though so be sure to wear good walking shoes.

  6. It's nice to be able to roam around the ship before it gets crowded. Also nice to have shorter lines at the food venues that are available at the time. We've done early boarding and later boarding and both have their advantages.

    Ditto for me!

I'm not a fan of crowds so I want to get on the ship early and check everything out before too many other people are around.

  7. Elegant Nights are usually the evening of the first Sea day from what I've been told (I've only gone on one cruise so far but I've looked over the FunTimes of several iteneraries). Some people go all out with suits/ties or tuxes and formal dresses. Some people dress what I call "church nice". Some dress is "business casual" and some wear jeans and a shirt. Generally shorts/t-shirts/flip-flops are frowned upon but there will be those that wear them anyhow.

Your 6PM dining time is the time you are required to arrive at your assigned dining room each evening. If you wish to dine at a later time you will need to eat on the Lido deck at the buffet or one of the specialty resaturants.

  8. I can just about picture what went down.

Lady and husband come in and see open seats on both sides of you and figures you can just move over so she waves at her friends that are already seated across the theater and yells to them "There's room here for all of us! These people can just move over!" She then turns to you and says "my friends are coming to sit with us here so can you move over?"

    Am I about right?

In this case I wouldn't move either.

  9. If I remember correctly, I had it the first night on the Valor this past December. It was a Nutella Tirimisu and I wasn't impressed. Didn't like the Melting Chocolate Cake either. In fact, I can't say I liked any of the desserts I had in the MDR and it takes A LOT for me to not like dessert!!

  10. One general cruising tip I found very helpful is to bring battery-operated tea lights to be a nightlight in the bathroom. We put one on the desk in the room, too. Some bathrooms cut power to the outlet when the light is turned off, so this is a way around that. We tried it and it worked great.

Yes! We did this too and found it worked perfectly for those middle of the night trips to the bathroom! Also was nice to use on our balcony at night too.

We take insulated drink cups to keep drinks from getting watered down. Boca clips for beach towels and chairs (and to keep curtains completely closed to keep light out in early morning on ship and at hotels), magnet clothespin to keep paperwork (FunTimes, etc) on the wall and off the desks and tables, outlet extender w/ USB ports for charging all electronics, travel size Glade/Febreeze spray for bathroom smells, and travel size Downy Wrinkle Release and Static Guard for packed clothes. (I also pack a travel size lint roller since we seem to always bring along a little bit of our cat along with us!)

  11. I can deal with unsolicited phone calls, from Carnival or anyone else, that is what the Block Caller feature on my phone is for. What annoys me is the junk mail we get, not from Carnival, that is addressed to my husbands ex-wife from whom he's been divorced from for almost 25 years and has never lived at our current address (or our 2 previous ones and his 1 previous one). That, and the junk mail I receive for my mother that has been dead for 4 years. I don't think she is in need of Medicare Supplemental insurance a this point. :(

  12. We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham-Orlando Airport for the night before our cruise this past December. They had a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel (we had to wait almost 40 minutes for them to come pick us up though!). The next morning I'd booked Cortrans to take us to Port Canaveral (they were prompt and courteous with a nice mini-bus). When we got back we again used Cortrans to take us back to the Hampton Inn-Orlando Airport. We were almost 2 hours late disembarking due to fog and a computer glitch in the check out system but our mini-van was there waiting for us after we got our luggage and emerged from the terminal building (again a courteous driver in a nice mini-van). The Hampton Inn was a much nicer property than the Wyndham and they also offer free shuttle to/from the airport and were much more prompt!

  13. 1) I you are able bodied, take the stairs (especially if it is only one or two flights)

    2) If you see someone struggling with their 150 pound suitcase...offer to help cause it's the nice thing to do. You may just make a new friend or at least make someone's day.

    Agreed!

The only time I didn't take the stairs was when my shoes were hurting my feet (on elegant night) and when I'd tweaked my bad knee one day. On elegant night I was waiting for the elevator along with a lovely lady on a scooter. When the doors opened she actually told me to go on ahead of her. I did and I held the "open door" button on the elevator so she could actually back onto the elevator which made it easier for her to get off when we got to our destination. She thanked me profusely and commented she wished everyone would do the same. (I wish more people knew about the "Open door" button on elevators)
