  1. Please walk over / do not telephone to the front office with your supporting paperwork and request to have a meeting with the guest relations manager (no one below) and plead your case/ask to have her/him explain what happened to your original booking of the fam. cabana. Follow that up by asking her/him what the ship/HAL can do for you to make the situation better and take the bad taste out of your mouth. Plan B is to request a similar meeting with the hotel general manager. Good luck to you!
  2. A mosh pit on HAL! Seattle, are you listening?...........😬
  3. If you still want to send your "Alligator" Christmas card to the culinary staff on Nieuw A, I suggest you place the card inside an envelop with a note explaining the background/why you are sending it, and address it to: Executive Chef ms Nieuw Amsterdam / Holland America Line 4100 NW 142nd Street, Unit 106 Opa Locka, FL 33054 Upon arrival there, the staff will transport the mail and/or packages to Nieuw A's berth in Port Everglades, the next time she's in port. Crew mail goes to the Crew Officer's office who will distribute it to the various departments
  4. That pic with Capt. Buckens and Oprah was taken when she performed her Godmother duties on Nieuw Statendam! I hear ya, but Capt. Albert, the HAL historian, is/was just not a lecturer but, as Traveling Fleet Master, gave onboard courses to crew - That has come to a stop also since Covid
  5. BB King's All-Star band on Nieuw Amsterdam Rolling Stone Rock Room Band on Koningsdam
  6. So, in a nutshell, Captain Albert Schoonderbeek, not to be mistaken with Capt. Werner Timmers 😉, is still AWOL
  7. Love both those rooms and the bands that play in them and, by the looks inside/trying to find a seat. so do many others. The vocalists and musicians in both bands are really good and I grew up with disco 😉
  8. Nieuw A is currently doing Carib cruises home ported out of Ft. Lauderdale. Your best bet is to send the post card to the Holland America port agent in Ft. Lauderdale/Port Everglades attn. Nieuw Amsterdam's executive chef (either Bitta Kuruvilla or Darran Salisbury) in big bold letters on the envelop. I'm sure, upon receipt, the chef will be more than happy to display it to his culinary team. incl. the Lido guys and gals with your best wishes Let me see if I can get that mailing address for you. I used to have it when working 'cause my lovely spouse used to sent me small gift packages there, but I have misplaced that address. Will get back to you!
  9. He's been back home in the UK as opposed to taking on his duties onboard one of the dam ships This was his post one year ago this month My blog is still in limbo as far as daily posts are concerned as I am still at home. I have not been able to obtain an L visa from the USA embassy in London yet as they are on reduced capacity and HAL Marine operation is also not ready to let me start hopping from ship to ship again.
  10. Loyalty pins are awarded for 2-Star, 3-Star, 4-Star and 5-Star Mariners. In addition, we recognize our most loyal Mariners through the awarding of a special medallion — a Bronze Medallion for guests sailing with us for a total of 100 days, Silver Medallion for guests sailing with us for a total of 300 days, Gold Medallion for guests achieving 500 days, and our highest level Platinum Medallion for those guests who have joined us for 700 or more days.
  11. Just a suggestion. A good way to see San Diego is via the Old Town Trolley which is basically a hop on/hop off ride. You don't have to get off and instead stay on/seated for your ill foot, and complete the circuit. The closest stop by the B-Street cruise terminal is right in front, Stop C on the map https://www.trolleytours.com/san-diego?phta=sdtrolleylocal&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-oqdBhDfARIsAO0TrGFh6WlJjD-u5V-aYM6NIQpWOhS1mlRoaVDYARqaaxLRoVk1EqpXRqIaAl1nEALw_wcB#map-section https://www.trolleytours.com/san-diego/map
  12. This is the current Royal Goedewagen tegel /tile for the Pinnacle class - This latest series came out in 2021/2022 and depict sea monsters below the ship class. The corner ornamentations refer to the crown of the Statue of Liberty in New York. The crown consists of seven points symbolizing the seven continents and oceans. I haven't seen them being handed out yet however The remaining two "R"-class ships The Vista class The Signature class
  13. Hope it's the 29 Dec segment! Would like to be there to throw confetti at you ! 🙂 We're 38 days shy of the gold
  14. Don't doubt you a bit however, on her current voyage which appears to be a somewhat short charter, she shows a bit of a different track. Not that important anyway! 😉 https://www.vesselfinder.com/?imo=9156527
  15. That's very cool because I know someone aboard her that day also and we're doing a similar thing, maybe not lunch, but a get together to chat over a Margarita and some chips & salsa in the PM 😉
  16. You sure about that one? 🤪 https://www.cruisemapper.com/ships/Discovery-Princess-2157?tab=itinerary#itinerary
  17. Just received a response to your query; There is no blood stored in the infirmary for potential transfusions for various reasons. As I thought, in case blood is needed for that purpose, the medical dept. will rely on voluntary donations from either crew an/or guests which has not been a problem in the past
  18. Thanks for posting this tribute! This was Dolly with her security detail during the 2014 Grand Asia-Pacific voyage on Amsterdam. She was one of a kind! May she rest in eternal peace!
  19. Just some of the heroes and heroines not in any particular order. There are undoubtedly more/others Kyle Carpenter, USMC, the youngest living military man to ever receive the Medal Of Honor. He received the prestigious award for his outstanding bravery while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Carpenter shielded a fellow Marine from a hand grenade that was thrown onto the rooftop they were based on in November 2010. Both men survived thanks to Kyle's actions. Stephen Hawking, a man who has defied all physical, emotional and academic boundaries in his lifetime. The unknown protester who stood in front of a column of tanks in Tiananmen Square Candace Lynne Lightner, organizer and president of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Rosa Parks, pioneer of civil rights Jane Addams, president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and 1931 Nobel Peace Price winner Jeanne d'Arc, Patron Saint of France and defender of the French nation William Shakespeare, playwright, poet and actor whose work has shaped and influenced the English language Oskar Schindler, German industrialist and humanitarian who is credited with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust Martin Luther King Jr., Baptist minister and activist, and one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. Neil Armstrong, astronaut and aeronautical engineer who became the first human being to walk on the Moon in 1969. He was also a naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor.
  20. I was referring to running routine blood tests. Not sure what types of blood, if any, the infirmaries' carry on board for potential transfusions. I do know there is a "shelf life" for stored/refrigerated blood. I also know, when working, that a request went out to crew and pax to come down to the infirmary to donate a specific kind of blood type. I was one of the ones who did it. We were on a trans-Atlantic crossing far from land at the time. I will attempt to find out if blood is carried on board for transfusions and get back to ya
