Any tables and chairs or sofa type of seating there!

I don't remember tables and chairs however I managed to find some pics from when we went and you can see there are a few. I wouldn't say this area is particularly special but definitely quieter. You can't see the bar in these as it's around the corner.

Thank you for posting this information Captain-John.  Would you be able to go by the Aurea sun deck above the Sky Lounge?  There is very little information about this sun deck and it's facilities.  I've been trying to find out what type of drink service is available on the sun deck.  I'd be interested to know if the Sky Lounge bar is open during the day and is this where drinks would be available for Aurea sun deck users.  I would assume they have drink servers up there at some times?

If it's not changed since we went in 2017 then Aurea sun deck has separate bar, waiter service and towels.  It was adult only when we went. There is a long, but narrower Jacuzzi that goes across the front of the deck. Other than that not a lot of difference to elsewhere on the ship. Was reasonably quiet most of the time (this was July in med) and good position to chillout if children are in the waterpark.

  3. If no one knows I am willing to ask when I am on Seaside in February. My best guess on this is if you are eligible for My Time dining it won't be a problem since they are already expecting to seat you whenever with whomever. If you're one of the scheduled dining people I would think it would get more complicated and they might not want to deal with that or might need you to have it set up daily perhaps. But as you said I would think this one requires direct experience or at least asking the maitre'd on Seaside directly which I am happy to do if no one with direct experience appears to answer this question.

Thank you that would be most appreciated. We would be doing Aurea as we did on the Meraviglia so also have the flexibility to dine when we want.

  4. Hello everyone seems a long time now since our maiden cruise on Meraviglia back in August.

We had such a great time were now planning our next on the Seaview in 2019. This time its with my inlaws who are seasoned cruisers.

We think they would like the Yacht club ( they havent been MSC before but usually go top end with butler).

One thing we'd like to do though is all have dinner together in the main dining room. Does anyone know if this is possible? One of the agents weve asked said it isnt. We havent contacted MSC yet and either way Id like anyones views on real experience ( if anyone has them)

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Thank you. You are the shining morning Venus amid the celestial seas of darkness and despair!

Have a look on the Facebook Meraviglia Cruise group there are plenty of others with positive stories. I'm not suggesting there weren't little niggles but overall the holiday was superb.

There will always be some people who unfortunately do have a genuine problem whilst away that is inevitable given the large numbers of people BUT that is the same for any holiday with any company. It's interesting when looking at the forums on here for other cruise companies how the same type of things crop up again and again. I think occasionally it's just inevitable.

  6. I would say nothing to worry about. We sailed beginning of August and I was a bit apprehensive given early comments but the reality was that virtually all the issues described ( particularly in the MDR) seemed to be sorted. We had a lovely time and are hunting for our next cruise.

  7. If you've pre-booked Cirque du Soleil then you get a slip of paper with your cruise card with a number to call to book your actual day and time. You could also do it through the TV or Msc for me app. It was the same with speciality restaurants. In retrospect I think the trio speciality package looks very good value if you just want try the restaurants. I thought the normal menu - for butchers cut - looked very expensive ( although I appreciate you get more choice ).

  8. Thank you so much for you quick response. The including children is disappointing, we will be on our honeymoon and were told that the Aurea experience offers a private deck for adults 18 and over, we based our decision to book Aurea experience based on that information.:(

To be honest I don't think you have to worry as there were very few people generally in this area. It was quiet to empty most days. The pool guards were also very good at keeping things calm. Most of the children will be at the back of the ship on the water slides.

  9. We are scheduled to sail from Naples on 11 September, it says boarding starts at 1530 do you think it would be to early if we arrived by 1400

The ship arrives in Naples around 11:30 so I think you'll be fine to board at 2pm. Our official boarding in Marseille was 2:30pm but we boarded at 12pm.

  10. Well it's now 6 days since I emailed MSC and still no reply - other than the automatic one to say they have received the email.

Has anyone ever had any dealings by email? Do you know how long it will take them to respond?

    Many thanks.

When I emailed them before our cruise it was a couple of days after acknowledgement.

  11. How come when I log on, my 100 photo package is $199?

    safe sailing

They have changed prices recently I suspect because of the popularity. We only paid £59 for our package and I believe this has now increased to £99. Still good value compared to onboard prices. Looks like US pay even more.

  12. I hadn't seen the cruise critic page until the 36% was mentioned today. Some of the reviews really aren't that balanced and focus purely on the negative. Personally having read the fair reviews by Beamafar and Kikki I went with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised as the good things were very good and it was clear a number the issues identified, particularly in the dining rooms, had or were being dealt with. I do wonder whether some those service issues were a direct result of the flexi dining mess. When we were on the ship, classic dining had settled down and we had good service all week. Meal times ( with the exception of one night where desert went missing a little too long ) were a nice 1 hour or just over.

I saw some reviews on here which suggested the ship was dirty and not cleaned which was just completely untrue. One thing I was very surprised at was generally how quiet parts of the ship were both during the day and evening.

We've looked at quite a few reviews of other lines ships and service since we got back to try and pick our next one but combined with the MSC price I've not seen anything that completely sways me elsewhere at the moment.

I am guessing that in a few weeks virtually all issues ( if you can really call them that ) will have gone

  13. If you buy the 100 photo package do you have to wait until the last day to pick your 100 photos or can you pick them as you go along? Seems pretty stressful and chaotic to wait until the last night and have to fight the last minute shoppers.

We had the 100 pictures package and it was fantastic. You don't need to wait until the final day to get them printed they'll make a note of how many you've printed already .

We went for the smallest print size possible which is 6x8. You can just print these from the machine yourself. Note when you add the photo to the cart on the machine you can remove the Meraviglia border and recentre the pic or zoom in zoom out. Be prepared to see a few different photographers over the week. We used to spend 15-20 mins with a couple most nights and got some lovely pics. I've attached a few here so you can see 50bf2166f8291aaf25ce22822e4bdf3e.jpgb90c1c857532343e9f44929dc77def65.jpg5029fb507fe1d2351e30253e1c72e6c3.jpg

  14. We are sailing on the Meraviglia Aurea class on 11 Sep for our honeymoon, we specifically booked the Aurea class as we were told it is 18 and over only

It's definitely not adult only on Meraviglia ( no signage to indicate that). Unlike other MSC ships where others can pay it's only available to Aurea guests. I might add they won't tolerate kids messing around. It was very quiet when we were onboard so I really wouldn't worry.

  15. I'm not sure I understand, you walked into the sliding glass door that leads to the balcony, or something else? Did you open the door and someone else closed it and then you tried to go out it again thinking it was still open?

You got it was periodically opened or closed and it's just very difficult to see. Not a big problem but son also did the same.

  16. Great shots of the cabin thanks! Was the sofa bed comfortable? It looks to small for our 6 foot teenage boys to share so I think the wife and I will be in that!

The sofa bed was actually a really high quality one with a very good mattress. Certainly the best one I've slept on ( I got the short straw as well whilst Dau and Wife slept upstairs) It's a pretty long and wide bed. The floor to ceiling curtains are electrically operated by buttons near the door. One thing that was a BIG problem the first couple of days ( and hurt like hell ) was walking into the sliding glass door as you exit the cabin to the balcony. There is nothing at eye level on the door to warn you and little reflection. I almost broke my nose.

  17. Thanks for that makes me feel a little better about set dining times. When you say there is a desk you can change is that just between early and late or is it flexi diners choosing a time?

It's just between early and late and roughly opposite the crepes/ice cream bar. Up on left past the excursions desk.
