Thanks, does that mean no international cafe on the grand?
I agree it's almost 20 years old, so it has that against it; but if the physical size of both ships are about the same, then the grand would win with lower pax density in its public spaces. What was skywalkers? What structural issues caused it's removal?
According to Wikipedia (which, in this case, doesn't cite its source)
The removal of the "Skywalkers" lounge from Grand Princess has resolved her tendency to sail bow high, and has improved her fuel economy by about 3-4%. The bow high tendency was peculiar to Grand Princess, and does not affect any of the other Grand class ships (or the derivative classes) as they all have aluminium upper decks, a feature Grand Princess does not have due to the technology to link these two materials being in its infancy when she was built. -
Are there any public spaces on the grand that aren't too noisy? Like perhaps a bar or club that's not serving anything but you're welcome to sit there? On other ships have that big Skywalker's lounge in the back, but the Grand doesn't have one (anymore.)

“Hi how are you today” she looked at me and said “this table is taken, I’m sitting here”. I said “I see that but there is no were else to sit and you’re at this table all alone, I’ll only be here a few minute while I eat my snack and then we’ll move along”. My wife comes over with her tea and this lady goes sideways and tells us that we are the rudest people she’s ever encountered on a cruise and with that she slams her book closed and leaves. The people next to us about died laughing, they said that she had run off some other people right before I sat down.
I could understand if she was holding the seats for friends (who'd be there soon,) but otherwise she's out of line IMHO. And I suspect you're not the first (or the last) cruiser to get her critique about your manners.

The I C tables are often unavailable particularly on at sea days and when most passengers are returning from a port visit. Rather than complain about it, we sit somewhere else like in Vines or if necessary on the low wall dividers in the Atrium.
Yep. I'll just take my food and find a seat elsewhere. More civil than my hypothetical "be a pain in the butt" suggestion mentioned earlier.

My guess is that rather than having us in our cabin watching TV, they would rather we be out and about spending money.
I think you're right. After all, look at how many patter "events" are aimed to sell something. :D

Do princess ships offer printed guides as to what channels they offer and what show was on.

Is there a charge for the International Cafe?
I was aboard this April. If memory serves, the gelato cost extra, but the cookies, pastries, paninis and other goodies were free.

All seafood is frozen...none is "fresh"...although freezing does keep the quality quite nicely. It's a law...freezing kills parasites and there's no way to keep "fresh fish" fresh on a ship for a week or more!
One guidebook snarked about cruise ship fish: "The 'Catch of the Day' clearly had no contact with the sea for some time..." :D

Expect good wedding banquet quality and that's pretty much what you'll get.
Sounds good enough for me.

If you're looking for five-star restaurant qualify, you'd best look for restaurants on land.
Yeah, I figure any meals prepared for a boatload of people might lean more towards "mass produced" as opposed to "gourmet."

One thing that pops up regularly in Princess reviews is that the beef dishes are lackluster (or worse) with the exception of the steakhouse. Do you agree? How do other meats compare- both in quality and how well they're cooked?

I read the thread title and thought what a horrible name for a new class of Princess ships hahaha
From now on, I'm calling referring to noisy staterooms (engine vibration, banging anchor, upstairs racket etc..) as "Harmonica Class" :D

On that cam I sometimes hear an (off camera) bird making a two note "cluck cluck" sound. Anyone know what it might be? Probably not a chicken...:D

I think I am on the same cruise as you.
Same here. :)
I go up at least every other year ... we laugh because the captain or whomever is announcing the events always states, 'this is as close as we've gotten all year' -- every time. LOLHeh heh. I agree that sounds suspiciously scripted.

What do you think? Was this a little excessive? Or just all in good fun?

I think it's funny. There's just something amusing about silly, childish behavior (the good kind) on such a large scale. Just don't get so carried away that you wreck the boat. -
I hear there's a variety of teas offered in the library/tea room on the Grand. Is it worth sampling the teas? (and if so, which ones?) or is it just a gimmick to sell overpriced drinks?

From the Personalizer' date=' under Personal Profile, click on My Profile.
Then under Member Profile, click on Cruise History. You will now see all the cruises you have taken and the number of days and credits.[/b']
It worked! Thanks, Nāmaka :)

but on the plus side - you get credit for 2 cruises.
Speaking of credits, is there any way you can check how many you've racked up? I've been able to find my tier, but not how many points I need to get into the next level.

That's pretty cool! Thanks for the link. :)
For anyone cruising to Alaska here is something to checkout from time to time during cruising season to keep the excitement amped up.http://juneauharborwebcam.com/
Enjoy! :)

Thank god you had the picture.
Maybe you should have taken "Bug Under Glass" to the auction? He's modern art, I tell ya! ;)

Has this, or anything like it, happened to any of you?
I haven't, but I heard someone a few cabins down yelling at the steward about a roach. It was the first day, so I suspect the critter stowed away on someone's luggage. Had there been an infestation, I suspect I would have found a few "friends" in my cabin too.

.. she exclaimed that she was never going to sail on Princess again...
...Her reason, they didn't serve her a lemon wedge with her crab cake at lunch.
OMG -- really???
Those bastards! She'll show THEM! (I'm kidding, of course):D

If the steps are there, they're "trapped" within a crew area. On Deck 7, it's quite odd: the stairs go up half a flight, then make a u-turn and come back down on the other side of a wall. It's almost entertaining to watch the endless stream of passengers go up one side and back down the other, NEVER able to convince others to avoid the steps. :) The stairwell does exist 5-7, but that's about it.
Sarah "Mystery house" Winchester would have approved! :D

The speculation as to what cabin it was (and whether or not you'd want to know) reminds me of an incident that happened decades ago in Southern California. A woman fell to her death from a hotel balcony under suspicious circumstances (the suspect was acquitted.) Incredibly, I'm told the room is (or was- perhaps the "novelty" has worn off) was quite popular from then on, with people requesting to stay there. Go figure!:confused:
