That was what insurance was for, but we were less than informed by the sudden changes princess made in precruise testing, along with fact we knew 2 weeks ahead that the ship was only half full and not telling us up front that they had an ongoing Covid deck with Covid positive people staying onboard….

we can’t plan for what we are not made aware of. My wife even brought a rapid Covid test from home when I told her we would be getting several along the way.

she felt a sore throat a few days in and tested negative. I didn’t mine as we were tight on space and I “knew” princess would test at the port and again a few days in like they did on the previous cruises.

I do hope princess reads this and does PCR Testing on everyone before they get off in hawaii

For me personally, The burden of planning ahead when going on a cruise of the possibility that you may get Covid and may need to isolate and may need extra money/time to recover  (including change of flights, lost wages) rests on the person planning to cruise.

  3. The hotel already has non Clovid guests on our floor. If either of us have bad coughing tomorrow or fever we won’t board the plane and will call to see if they can pay in advance for us to stay longer because we can’t afford to do so or pay more last mintute charge fees. With bills from home coming and being paid on our card, we can’t do more except to try and keep us as safe as we can given the circumstances.

You are being selfish. You want to blame everyone else.  You have not answered the question. DO YOU HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE?  If you did it would solve most of your problems. We are currently doing a land vacation. Been in Barbados for two months. We have insurance that would cover all expenses should we get Covid and need to stay here longer. I can’t control what everyone around me does but since decided to travel I controlled what I could with my travel insurance.

Reed all the posts, we have insurance.

we are not the selfish or irresponsible ones. This that were onboard the cruise then or even now and not reporti g for fear of going to the aloha Covid warehousing are the irresponsible ones along with those who say already got and are immune. There’s enough fault for the whole community and I can guarantee that princess was the most so for dropping all precautions on our cruise for some reason. Had we known the day before going on the cruise that they would drop all this we would have canceled even if it cost us as it’s costing us a lot more now even with insurance.

Oh man... and this is how Covid keeps circulating round and around.

Folks driving you to airport, at check in, at gate, and inside airplane thank you so much (sad face)

The couple who we met on the cruise a live local who also got Covid are picking us up and taking us to the airport.

There is your answer—-/ travel insurance. Did you purchase it?  Call  them immediately.

I called them on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The claim is filed with this is all over and maybe weeks or months after that and this this is alll on us until/ if payback is given. We are on a budget and only order the 1st class return befor our cruise because it was only $100 more and we could get an extra bag and weight for free and fill another bucket list item on our 20rh anniversary by sitting in first class. The rescheduled flight cost our card $ 1000 more, room at least 1300 more, food so far close to 500. The 5 days of last minute care of our pets who knows the added cost, plus 5 more days airport parking and 5 days no income for us either.

we saved for years for this trip.

The situation @Optotronicsfaces illustrates the dilemma we face as a society regarding Covid.

Should all the burden be placed on them because they drew the short straw and caught Covid?  Is it reasonable to expect them to stay in a quarantine hotel for weeks without any financial support?

I don't know the answer, but I personally will not be so quick to judge someone else's actions until I've walked a mile in their shoes.

    I agree.

we were not selfish, but everyone has their limits. The selfish are those going around onboard in side without masks, flying and taking masks off. Princess for removing precautions and not enforcing smoking and mask requirements.

the best advice I can give is to get n95 mask without a vent for your flight and don’t take it off to eat or drink because others will be.

  8. I too run a business and try to treat my customers the way I would want to be treated and I put myself in their shoes and follow thru.

rhis has not happened with princess. The crew did their best I expect under the circumstances, but testing our cuise with reducing testing is on corporate. And their not compensating us fairly for our harm and time locked up in a room for 5 days.
if princess really cared about us, they would have taken good care of us, treat us as they would want to be treated and that didn’t happen.

Author/op- has Said all along that his wife tested negative on the ship and she has never tested again and she’s been out of the hotel room and she had symptoms of a cold/allergy from the get-go and now she’s coughing up a storm or something to that effect ,but they are going to get on a plane tomorrow and go home because Princess has not contacted them and apparently they can go home after five days no further Covid test required.

I am sure totally frustrating ,but I would’ve been on the phone to the special care hotline that has been given on this forum every day until I got a hold of someone. And apparently the author didn’t feel ( was not well enough )like making calls but his wife was out and about outside of the hotel room so she must’ve been feeling OK ?she could’ve made the calls. I know I’m not there !I’m not in their shoes but…

Sorry, but I guess you didn’t read all the pages. We did trying calling many times the 1st 2 days but couldn’t get though just like when calling for our drinks.

I tried saving all our communications but they would end the conversation and not allow reopening.

This does not sound like two people who are fit to fly. Get tested. The squeaky wheel gets results

We will protect ourselves and others with double mask on the return. If you think Covid isn’t already on the planes, you are in denial. On the way to fll there were people taking off masks and Covid cough along the way. It’s possible this whole outbreak was caused by not retesting at the port and onboard.
the way things are going, I would t doubt that they will remove airline mask mandates tomorrow since they removed cruise restrictions after all this.

I'm sorry you both are sick, but I think it's irresponsible if you travel with your wife just getting sick.   She should be quarantining until she no longer is contagious.    That's not fair to the other people on the plane.    You would be ticked if you knew someone was traveling on a plane sitting next to you if they were still contagious.....just sayin'

I’m feeling better after 4 days of quarantine, but not back to normal and who knows we could shed Covid for weeks. This is costing us a bundle in lost work and income. If princess were refunding the quaratine people their cruise, then we could use that towards lost income….
the poopy quarantine cabin without a refrigerator, taking 5 hours to get us soda and ice for my sore throat, putting us out in the cold to wait an hour and witnessing a passenger pee on the side of the structure because they wouldn’t let back in. Then no contact from princess or a rep this whole time..

    I am livid about this!
    we are going home tomorrow.

we are in 1st class seating so there is more distancing and we will have n95 masks (without vent) on the way home because we had 3m high end n95 masks for our flight to fll, but since this had a vent in them, American Airlines made us replace them with a normal surgical mask.

when we get home we will stay there until we get tests sent to us and test negative .

so unless princess shows up and starts paying the bills, we can’t stay longer.

You haven't heard from Princess yet?  There are no words to describe how horrible that is.

Are you feeling better?  And how is your wife doing?

As for the post cruise survey, those are kind of hit and miss these days.  No one I've spoken to who was on my February cruise got one.  Well actually I did get a link from Customer Service after I submitted a question about it through the "contact us" section of their website.

I just received the princess after cruise review. I’ll be taking my time with this when we get home. I’m feeling really weak with headache and going back to bed soon. My wife is coughing up the crud now and says she thinks she has it now too….. no matter, we plan on being on the plane tomorrow with our n95 masks. Princess says they will cover our 5 days (we shall see), but not anymore and this trip has cost us plenty not only financially but in things we can’t unsee or unexperience.

I’m getting better in that my ears are starting to get a little movement with I hold my nose and blow, but still plugged up. No more chills and better breathing; but I’m so tired and weak muscles.

my wife is doing better, she never tested positive onboard

    I think any help from

princess got back on the ship and left on Sunday. It was such a bad disembark.

didn’t have to go they customs or show passport at all…but it was

cold/wet that morning and people with Covid shivering in it. A fellow by me after waiting for transport for 1/2 hour had to go pee and they wouldn’t let him back inside… so he relieved himself around the side of a big round tank outside the door.

will be glad to get home on Friday night:)

In isolation. Not wandering around the ship. And their close contacts are tested daily and not allowed to leave their cabins unmasked, nor eat or drink outside their cabin. And yet new passengers who haven’t been tested for as many as six days and may have flown to San Francisco and just stood in line talking to each other on Sunday for hours while boarding the ship are running around unmasked.

In transits are the least of the issues.

Sounds like it could get ugly by the time you get to Hawaii with a higher passenger count onboard

@voljeep  I have an understanding that if you have private transportation home at the port Princess let’s you go.  The docs say you can arrange to quarantine in a different hotel so why not Mi Casa hotel?   but for the life of me I am not able to find the passage right now that says you can use private transport home. I recall it being buried somewhere.  When I find it again I’ll bookmark it and share.

It seems to me if you’re asymptotic and driving your own car I would be medically cleared to travel home. Or let’s say I felt like ick. Son and hubby would drive over and get me and drive my car back.

these are the passages from the covid 19 protection plan that I think support my thoughts. I think it relies on what it means to be medically cleared to travel.

    • We’ll designate a Dedicated Family Assistance liaison for care and logistical shoreside support until you or the member of your immediate travel party is medically cleared to travel home.

    • Can I book my own hotel if I am required to quarantine post-disembarkation before returning home?
Hotel accommodations will be arranged by Princess with one of our contracted hotel partners. Should you select a different hotel, you will be reimbursed only for the amount of the contracted hotel rate. Any incidental charges, costs related to room upgrades and additional room nights in excess of what is provided by Princess, requested or arranged by you, is your responsibility. Princess will provide hotel accommodations until a medical professional clears you to travel home.

What they say in their shiny website is not how it always is:(

we’ve done 3 of our 5 days in Covid hotel and still no contact from princess (except for more cruise ads in my email)

we call the 800 number for liaison the first 2 days of quarantine without getting through. I really doubt we will need medical clearance when our time is up… especially since There has been zero contact so far.

I usually get a review form from princess the same day we disembark, but not yet…I have a feeling they know better than to ask.

Everyone including the crew has been tested.

    Why worry?

You could get the virus at your local Walmart just as easy.

    Why worry???

are you in denial that it could and probably will happen to you with that attitude. It’s much easier to contract on a ship with close than a trip to the store with your Mask on.

you can bet that the sick crew are still onboard as the crew has told me they were short handed onboard with only 1500 passengers and thy would not be getting more crew when it goe to over 2500 for the Hawaii cruise.

I find it interesting for those that have tested positive onboard a Princess ship for Covid or negative and A roommate of a positive person You were taken to a Princess approved hotel & some have gone outside the hotel for fresh air, etc.or have been in the elevators, the hallways or lobby.

The letter says to isolate in hotel room. So how is a negative person for Covid allowed to wander in a hotel, but their roommate is positive? It doesn’t make any sense to me. But sounds like nobody’s really checking and it’s an honor system.

All of it frustrating, but seems as if some instructions were given??

    Did I miss something?

Are you given hotel keys to get in and out of your room? I know when Hawaii started way back when their  quarantine if you left your room you were locked out and then that voided your quarantine.

I haven’t left the room, but my negative tested wife has because we need water, ice, tissue and wash clothes….

to be able to remain in quarantine, you have to have a support system of people to supply you with essentials. There is no one here to guard or check on anyone because princess didn’t provide it. No one comes to the room to clean anything.
the idea is that to remain in quarantine, you have to have someone getting you the essentials

If we had someone in the hotel to call and bring ice or water or any of those others thinnga we would. They don’t have room service, so if you want ice or anything else you do it yourself.

they Will leave fresh towels toilet paper and soap, extra pillows at the door, but that’s it.

Did anyone on the Ruby require hospitalization? I thought they were sequestered at a hotel or their homes.

@brisaltaI'm on the Ruby April 23rd and still green. So maybe your app is just having a hiccup

They did have a couple ambulances waiting, but didn’t see anyone rolled out.

on the 2nd formal night we went to the stardust show and you could tell they replaced a couple of show people with others who didn’t know what was going and made for a lack of coordination in the show. They must have been off boarded in Panama because we saw lots of baggage when we were getting on the tenders.

  19. 42 minutes ago, IJustWantToGo36 said:

Since Ruby has removed all (or almost all) of their POSITIVE pax.....why has the CDC color not been reset to GREEN?

No because they didn’t disembark all positive cases. There were passengers in quarantine that were staying on for Hawaii.

I agree with you about their customer care.  We are still onboard with my husband in isolation.  It continues to be a struggle to get food.  He us diabetic and this worries me.  I have been to guest services several times to complain and they assure me they will fix it.  It took 3 hours to place a breakfast order this morning.  Finally about 10 am pancakes arrived with no syrup.  Who the hel... eats pancakes without syrup?  As the negative spouse I am being tested every morning for 5 days.  Surprised they have your wife with you and they are not testing her, but you are "out the door" now and no worries.  Not that they worry that much about their positive cases onboard.  Hubby has had 1 phone call to check on him in 4 days.  His O2 was 93 when he was sent to isolation.  I got off the ship in SF and bought an oximeter to send to him since no one else is monitoring him!

I can relate, we ordered sodas and ice with lunch around 12:30 the other day and some of the food was missing and no drinks or ice. I called and still none. Finally around 5 hours or more later it arrived. It took forever and  it able to get they on special numbers they gave us for ordering.

Finally got dinner after 9pm and they didn’t get that right either on top of bringing only 1 set of silverware.

when the sodas and ice arrived, we discovered their were no glasses in the room for drinking.

plus we were in a room with a refrigerator for many hours and at on point we were told that quarantine rooms didn’t have refrigerators??

  21. My wife went downstairs to get us some ice and saw a fellow she recognized from the ship. He’s from Canada and he has to stay for 10 days before Canada will let him back in:(

the rest of his family flew home.

they were moving him to a new room cause his tv doesn’t work.

he said that he was under the impression that princess was going to send someone here to check on us all?

she also said he called the 800 number princess gave us onboard and still hasn’t heard back from them. His family made it back to Canada safely.

im beginning to feel lucky we didn’t get kicked off in Costa Rica or Mexico….

  22. My wife never tested positive supposedly, so it might have been a cold or allergies for her. She going to the rooftop garden to get fresh air (wearing n95) and take some pictures.
I’m not going anywhere outside this room… about the time I do the cdc will show up;)

as for princess customer care, I’ll call them when we get home and see about them paying for the hotel and food.

then use our travel insurance to cover the airline flight back home and extra parking.

I think if they really cared about their “customer care” they wouldn’t have dropped all the testing and mask enforcement and wouldn’t have sent people shivering from Covid out to wait at the curb for an hour for transport to the hotel… or even made a priority to get those stuck in their quarantine cabins food and drink in a timely manner.

I have no doubt that if I were unvaccinated i would be I. The hospital now and fighting for life.

I can’t help thinking about those onboard now. I looked at ocean weather last night and they are going to have some pretty rough seas ahead.

That what I was thinking about the older fellow who rode with us to the hotel, he was alone but not notciably sick
