We had E106 & didn't like all the constant walking to go everywhere.

Other than that the balcony was OK. At least you could move around compared to a standard balcony.

We like to walk so it didn't bother us in the least. Plus, it made us feel less guilty after all the gluttony we participated in during the cruise.

We've got a 12-night British Isles booked for next summer.  When I looked at the forward facing balconies, they were listed as obstructed because the balcony could only be used in port.  L101 and L102 are still available.  The picture makes them look great!  I'm not sure I could sell my husband on the very front of the ship though.  And I think I'd be nervous they would tell us we couldn't use the balcony while we were moving.

We were in M103 on a Med cruise and the only reason it was listed as obstructed was because it had steel as opposed to glass at the balcony railing. Also we weren’t restricted to use it only while in port. We used it while the ship was underway as long as the wind didn’t prevent us from being out on the balcony. We loved the cabin and location, wouldn’t hesitate to book it again.

I guess you can't go buy the deck plans pages on Princess. Because on that the Dolphin balconies look like they are the biggest. Is that not true?

Yes, but cabins on Dolphin are mini suites, not balcony cabins. Largest balconies would be the suites (except for window suites on a few Grand class ships).

  4. More than likely. For example, if you look at the deck plan for Emerald, it asks if you’re cruising before or after March 30. The only change I’ve found are some of the cabins on Emerald deck at the very forward changed from Oceanview to Oceanview (Obstructed).

  5. Thank you! Even though this wasn't in response to my original question, it was helpful nonetheless. I don't know what time Princess sails from Honolulu/Waikiki, but if you give me an idea I might make it a point not to be in bed!

I’m glad you found it helpful. It seems Princess, in general, is in port on Oahu from 7am-11pm.

  6. You don’t mention which island you plan to visit. In any case pretty much any place that serves a plate lunch you should be able to find some of what you’re looking for. The spam and rice item is called spam musubi. Also, it’s shave ice (without the “d”) and poke, not poki. I also like loco moco and lomi lomi salmon when on the islands. Good luck.

  7. Thank you Jojiboy for the info on the Princess Cruise routing. For some reason I thought most cruises sailed by the Napali Coast because there are so many posts about it on CC. I will say though, that I think seeing Honolulu/Waikiki from the water at night is beautiful. And if you have a balcony on that side of the ship you can watch it in your p.j.s. Even if I take the red eye home I love the view. Cherie

You’re welcome Cherie. I think POA might cruise by the Napali Coast, not sure though. I agree, seeing the lights of Honolulu and Waikiki at night would be quite a sight. In that case, a balcony on the port side would probably be advantageous. Unfortunately, with the demographic that sails on Princess, the majority of passengers are already tucked in for the night.

  8. For those who have cruised the Hawaiian Islands...isn't there a benefit when cruising by the Napali Coast? And when cruising out of Honolulu? When I fly in and out of the islands I select seats on the side of the plane that give me the view I want. I know on a cruise ship you can go on deck to see the views but sometimes it is enjoyable to sit on your balcony and enjoy!! Cherie

The Napali Coast is on the opposite side of Kauai from where Princess docks in Nawiliwili. So unless the ship cruises around the island, you won’t see the Napali Coast. Also when leaving Honolulu it’s at night, around 11pm. Not much to see in the dark.

  9. I found my answer about which pier, but still curious about Luau's that pickup/dropoff at the cruise terminal or other options other than the big three (Paradise, Germaine's and Chief's).

I’m not sure you’ll find another luau outfit that’ll pick up at the port. Germaine’s is doing it because they have the shore excursion arrangement. Princess has the same excursion with Germaine’s too. We’ve been to Paradise Cove, Germaine’s and the Polynesian Cultural Center luau. Haven’t been to Chief’s yet.

  10. I don't understand why the license bureau can't look the person's photo up in the database and determine if th person in front of them is the same person. Show a birthday certificate and you're in business, whether you live at a bum address or not.

Because that’s not failsafe. People’s appearance may change, ie. hairstyle, hair color, facial hair, no facial hair, etc. Unless the database has some sort of expensive facial recognition system that can compare a person’s facial features to the stored photo then it’s too easy to fool an indifferent state government worker.

  11. This is very interesting to me, since a lot of Californians think of us as backwards hillbillies. We've figured out how to replace a license in under 2 weeks. I use my license as ID a lot and don't know what I would do if I lost it and had to wait weeks for another one.

There’s quite a difference in population though. California’s is about 40 million, Tennessee’s is about 7 million. I’m guessing it’s simpler to replace licenses in a less populated state than a state with a huge population. Having a passport helps if you need another form of ID too.
