  1. Has anyone been on grand princess lately if so could please tell me how state room c-702 is thanks in advance :)

We were in that cabin on our cruise to Hawaii back in November. The cabin was in terrific condition, everything was working fine (shower, toilet, HVAC system, etc.). Didn't notice any noise when carts rolled over the threshold by the cabin door. The elevators are close but didn't hear much noise from that area either. The only thing that we were concerned with was the blue mat on the balcony, it tended to lift up at the edges when it was hot on the balcony. It laid flat when it was cooler. So just watch your step when going out to the balcony. Other than that we enjoyed the cabin immensely and would book it again if we were to take another cruise on the Grand Princess.

  2. I decided to book my daughter and her boyfriend for a Bon Voyage Experience, as someone here had recommended. That way, rather than dropping us at the ferry terminal in Jack London Square, they can take the ferry over, and enjoy a few hours on the ship with us. This particular daughter (we have three) has sailed Carnival and Holland America, but not yet Princess, and her boyfriend has only sailed Carnival, so they are excited.

Sounds like an excellent way to thank your daughter and her boyfriend. I think the garage on Washington St. offers 12 hours of free parking if you bring the parking stub to be validated at the ferry terminal. I know they do on week days but not sure if they do this on weekends too. Worth a try in any case.

  3. I agree with what capriccio has said. If you arrive at the cruise terminal at 10am or later you should be able to drop off your luggage. With that said, you don't mention what day of the week you're arriving. If it's a weekday, by the time you claim your luggage and leave SFO, you'll be in the middle of rush hour traffic. It's conceivable you won't even arrive at the cruise terminal until after 10am anyway. What mode of transportation are you taking from SFO? The cruise terminal is close to the Fisherman's Wharf area so you'll be very close to a touristy area.

  4. Did you have any trouble handeling your luggage on/off the ferry?

Normally I take the train to Emeryville, then the Amtrak Thruway bus into The City, then there's the walk, dragging my luggage to the pier. I can get off the train at Jack London, ferry across the bay, depending on where I can get off in The City. Which one would be easiest for a Sr. citizen with luggage & walker.

As someone else mentioned, handling our luggage on and off the ferry was very easy. Both my DW and I each had a large piece of luggage, a carryon and a backpack. Neither of us have mobility issues so I can't say how your experience will be however. When you take the Amtrak Thruway bus, where do you get off to start your walk to the pier?

We did the walk from the Ferry Building because the sidewalk is pretty much flat all the way to Pier 27 and we didn't need to maneuver ourselves and our luggage around all the people/tourists walking/congregating around Pier 39. And as a previous poster said, the sidewalk around Pier 39 is brick/cobblestone so rolling luggage in that area takes more effort.

  5. Getting on the ferry in Alameda is a good idea. Thanks for the tip!

You're welcome. I should mention though that you should check the ferry schedule before deciding which ferry terminal you want to board the ferry. We boarded in Alameda because for the time we wanted to head to San Francisco the schedule showed the ferry picking up in Alameda before going to Jack London Square. If we wanted to board an earlier one, it would have picked at Jack London Square first and then Alameda.

  6. We used the ferry to get to Pier 27 for our last cruise and really enjoyed ride. Our son dropped us off at the Alameda Ferry terminal instead of at Jack London Square. We wanted to make sure we got a seat since the ferry picked up at Alameda before going to Jack London Square and we're glad we did. The ferry was pretty full by the time it docked at Jack London Square. We got off at the Ferry Building and it's really not that much further to Pier 27 than if you get off at Pier 41, we're talking just a couple of minutes longer from the Ferry Building. If you have a Clipper Card, the fare is a couple of dollars cheaper than paying the cash fare and it's much more convenient since you tag the Clipper Card when boarding.

  7. Hi, I'm on the same cruise as you are and have come up with this same dilemma before. I'm pretty sure there are no rental agencies in town and we will need to cab to Kaanapali or keep our fingers cross there will be a shuttle scheduled to take us there. We will be more than happy to share a cab there and can hook up with you at the Meet & Greet next Thursday. Maui seems to be the only port that doesn't accommodate the tendered cruise ships for taxis to car rentals. It's doable but just a bit more work.

Hi iceleven. Sharing a cab would be terrific. Which rental agency is your reservation? Ours is with Budget. Yes, let's try to hook up at the M&G.

  8. If you mean in the Front Street area, not as far as we know. Don't let that stop you from researching though. In checking the internet we find that Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and National are all located almost on top of each other on Halawai Drive. We know exactly where that is because we have driven past it many times. It is up the highway (30) from Lahaina, and you would be best put to see if any of the companies offer a shuttle because a taxi would be costly. You could take your whole family with you with a taxi though and not leave them at the tender dock. Shuttles sometimes will only take one person (whoever is going to be the driver), so you would possibly have to leave your family to cool their heels until you could come back for them. Hopefully others will know of better options.

Yes, I meant the Front St. area. Thanks for the info Silver Sweethearts. We have a reservation with Budget and figured we would probably just take a taxi to pick it up even if there was a shuttle available. Thanks again!

  9. The zip code area for Lahaina actually stretches all the way to Kapalua, so everyone is correct here. The location is in the Kaanapali area but uses a Lahaina zip code. Google Avis cars Kaanapali for exact location information and directions.

Ah, now that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. I was just worried that somebody might think there's an Avis location near Lahaina Wharf where the tenders drop cruisers off. Do you know if there are any rental car companies in Lahaina?

  10. When was the last time you rented a car with Avis in Lahaina and where are they located? We'll be there next week.

Unless things have changed since the last time I was on Maui, there is no Avis location in Lahaina. The closest one I know of is in Kaanapali. It shares a location with Budget.

  11. I just purchased my stock in CCL earlier today. My Scottrade account says that the transaction is "unsettled". Does anyone know how long it takes them before I can print off verification to send with my Shareholder form to get OBC?

I agree with Pierlesscruisers, give Scottrade a call. I believe though that it takes 3 business days to settle a trade, at least that's been my experience.

  12. Like other posts, I don't believe you can purchase the stock directly. Ours is currently through Scottrade, a very simple process. Do you have a 401k? If you do, maybe it will allow you to allocate some of your funds for CCL stock.
