  1. I can't imagine they downgraded the people without their consent. I'm sure they enticed them with incentives to accept the downgrade.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

As stated they originally offered them OBC. Apparently somewhere in the T&Cs, which I haven't read but was told about, there's no guarantee that you'll get the cabin you book and that from time to time you might be required to take a downgrade.

  2. Could not agree more. Its all the wrong way around. When cruises are first announced the prices should be low and as the ship fills up , then they should start moving the price up .

I can't keep up with RCI. At 7am they'll have a GTY suite,by 2pm it's gone and turned into a GTY interior. Then no change for ages. Then everything has GTY status. They're all over the place. I checked on a November cruise today on the RCI website and though what the wedding bells? Just using interior as an example here; Interior $1161.78pp. Interior GTY $1570.78pp.:eek:

  3. Yep, getting pop ups too ... but more annoying, C.C. keeps freezing if I go to more than one thread to read new posts. Don't know what's going on with the site. This is only happening with C.C. and been going on for approx 4 days. And it's happening on my desktop and tablet.

I've been having the freezing problem over about the last 5 days. Exceedingly annoying because it affects everything not just CC.

Just on a lighter, sillier note. I wonder what a pop cruise would 'look' like. If we can have pop up restaurants, shops and even pet care, why not a pop up cruise? (This is not an attempted hijacking)

  4. NO<NO<NO

Please don't resurrect this thread, please god bury it in the archives.

I got into more strife than Flash Gordon over this one LOL:);)

The ideas ya come up with when ya bored.

For the final resurrection I would just like to say it's definitely an idea worthy of merit. RIP!

  5. The last time we sailed with P&O we had a lovely young lass as our cabin attendant. By the time she had finished sharing her life story she had a large tip, all my new cosmetics, several packets of unopened lollies and all my Moccona coffee sachets for her sick father who loved coffee but couldn't afford to buy it. I felt terrible but I suppose she's one of the lucky ones employment wise. Even then I didn't feel as though I had been particularly helpful.

  6. For those that have spent all their hard earned $s on the cruise or who have arrived in Sydney early and want somewhere budget conscious to stay, I would have no hesitation in recommending the YMCA, Hyde Park. Breakfast is included in the tariff, it's close to Hyde Park station, only a few stops from Circular Quay, close to the CBD and the rooms are clean with en suite rooms available. it's also great for families.

  7. I feel terrible. I didn't realize that we were supposed to tip the Room Service staff as well. I read an article some time ago where it explained that the gratuities were shared among the whole crew, including Officers. Apart from the MDR waiters, cabin attendant and regular bar staff is there anyone else we should be tipping?

  8. Thank you woodyren. I'm really happy to hear this and will get onto my TA. I'm a bit sad though. This morning they were advertising GTY cabins and as of 5mins ago they're not. how sad! :(

Just heard from my TA and RCI are not offering any Seniors or past passenger discounts for the cruise I want. Never mind. I'm grateful for the information from woodyren. :(

  9. Has anyone done a re-positioning cruise? )

Love, love, love repositioning cruises. Lots of sea days that let me save money to spend on other cruise bits and pieces as I'm not spending it ashore. I've done 5 so far. When it's a full cruise the sea days can be a bit 'ordinary' but when everyone troops off at ports it's sheer bliss. The other bonus, the prices are usually substantially cheaper than a cruise of the same length. Just be aware that you'll need to add either a return airfare or cruise to get home. I can mostly absorb all these costs and pay around what I would have on a regular cruise.

Most definitely give it a try :)

  10. Travel agent suggested when get on boat show them the price we paid and explain couldn't get the discount and they might match the price. Its worth a shot.

Good luck with that. I'd be really interested to know how you went. Would you mind letting us know what RCI decided as many of us could find ourselves in the same situation. :)

  11. I've learned from past experience that it's usually cheaper to book twins if you can, especially if you book a GTY cabin. It's fine if it's all adults but there are problems doing this with children in a GTY as one person must be 18 or over in each cabin. We've been able to book twins for children on normal fares provided we can get cabins near each other. If it's only a matter of an extra $100 or less pp I always go for the twins where possible in any category.
