  8. From above article : John Yang says: " It sounds like science fiction. A 5,000 mile long belt of seaweed mitt weighing more than 11 million tons is sloshing around to the Atlantic Ocean. When some of it reaches Florida, it threatens to wreak havoc in the coastal waters and on the beaches, but it is very real. It's called The Great Atlantic Sargassum belt, so big it can be seen from space spanning the tropical Atlantic from West Africa to the Caribbean."

  10. Uber has conceded to paying access fees to Port Of Galveston . Agenda item on Wharves Board meeting this week . “Discuss And Consider Giving Port Director Approval To Execute The Operating Agreement Contract Between The Galveston Wharves And Uber Pending Legal Counsel’s Review Of Agreement “
  11. Galveston where we live has experienced the phenomenon . Whether it is groomed or ungroomed the consequences are severe . Our island a major tourist destination deals with daily maintenance of these issues and has dealt in the past with the major consequences of the the massive blobs or pods that float in our waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. With a massive invasion you do not have a choice of grooming to put beaches and adjacent waters in enjoyable tourist activities.
  12. My premise is a blob or pod two thousand miles long, around, deep or what ever can cover a lot of beach in one day or a few days.
  13. We live in Galveston and traveled The Caribbean , GulfCoast and Atlantic. We have witnessed first hand the massive floating pods from Africa in the Atlantic and all over these destinations. Size of pods and Mother Nature dictate the coverage . These can be massive like the one pod presently floating in the Atlantic . . It COULD will cover a beach completely , an entire island or even the souther Gulf shores and eastern Caribbean shores for many miles depending on the relatively and circumstances of the event.
  14. Yes that can happen over night depending on the size of the cover .
  15. Galveston Saltwater Moms for dependable service . We use often for travel, for we live in Galveston .
  16. Yes but families begin coming down and lots of day trippers for the beautiful spring weather . Remember with Dallas, Houston , Ft Worth , SanAntonio, Austin populations so close and Galveston being drivable, they keep coming to the water for for the destination .
  17. Remember Galveston has Spring Break, high summer season , two first class Convention Centers with events happening year around. And cruise lines Disney Royal MSC Princess MSC and Carnival are sailing now out of Island at some point during the year . This is similar to New Orleans . Timing is everything for hotel and vacation rental rates and the smaller crowds .
  18. Yes It’s a private enterprise issue outside of control of Port of Galveston , terminal operation, or of Royal Caribbean
