Festivale 1983 out of MIA
We sailed 1983 in late July on the Festivale out of Miami. This was our family's 2nd cruise, the first being the Mardi Gras in 1982. After this I was hooked as a 14 year old on cruising. I remember watching my dad do the skeet shooting. Good memories.

Emailed our PVP last night and she just got back to me saying she's all set and not going anywhere. We've been booking with her for almost 20 years so it would have sucked if she was gone.

Since so many people are eager to go on a cruise again as soon as possible, and some ports won't be open any time soon to welcome cruisers, I wonder if Carnival will have some "cruises to nowhere" (with limited capacity), just to satisfy those that are going stir crazy?
That would be fine with us..

Not nice to say this, but think anyone booking a cruise in Aug or Sept this year in out of their mind.
Why? Someone has to take o e for the team..

We were scheduled for the June 27th cruise on the Panorama and when that was canceled earlier this week I booked a 6 day on the Horizon using FCC and grabbing the generous OBC. When I did this rebook my PVP told me they were only going to be sailing the Horizon at 50 percent capacity which could explain those disappearing cruises. It could be something else but they my be closely monitoring the numbers. That's my positive and hopefully take on what you have been seeing.

I thought I read a article that said on the beginning cruises they would not have anyone in inside cabins. Does anyone else recall this? We have 2 insides on the Horizon on aug 22 and final payment is quickly coming up.
I thought I read a similar article but having that said, I just booked August 2nd on the Horizon and I have a balcony and inside cabin. It was a re-book from my June 27th Panorama cancellation. If you have a PVP call them and see if they can extend your final payment. Mine is being pushed off until mid to late June.

Wanted to say thank you to the OP for posting this as I still have not received my official cancellation email from Carnival for my June 27th sailing on the Panorama. Having that said because I saw this I already placed a hold on a 6 day sailing on the Horizon out of Miami. Now I have not read the entire thread other than about the first 10 posts, but what my PVP told me that they will be sailing the ship at 50 percent capacity so they are only doing holds for less than 24 hours. I needed this so I can check my work schedule. We'll be getting $600.00 OBC for our two cabins as well so that $1200 should pay for grats and our drinks. Take care everyone.

But, if you're being frugal, you also have the front end expense from either MIA or FLL to the Marriott Biscayne Bay.
The hotel I would choose depends upon which airport I was flying into and how early on the day before embarkation I was flying in. Big difference between getting in at 1100 AM versus 900 PM.
I hear you... Well like the OP mentioned we like Marriot properties and the proximity of the hotel to the port is what I base it on for a pre-cruise stay in Miami.
-
We usually stay at the Marriott Biscayne Bay which gives you some nice views of the port depending on whatvside of the hotel your on. The taxi ride from here isn't expensive.

Facing facts and assessing risks is not a negative thing.
Considering how my actions may impact others is a positive thing. I do not want to cruise right now. For all I know, I am a silent carrier. For all I know, if cruises come back too soon, the cost could be in human lives.
If the only way I could have a positive attitude was to know I would cruise by a certain date, I would need to re-examine my priorities and life.
Your a better person than I am, I try not to think about what you mentioned other than just being with my family. Ive worked throughout this entire thing plus extra. My family hasn't contracted anything yet. So if we can cruise we will. If I'm forced to quarantine for two weeks when we return so be it. I have the time to burn so its really no big issue, I'll count it as another vacation.

Yes lots of ifs - but biggest if is if cruises will be leaving??
Would love to know how confident you are that you will be leaving that day??
Hope you get what you need - your relaxing time.
Not very confident, just hopefully.. My crystal ball has been out of order, lol. So we'll see what happens

It is amazing the number of people on the boards with a head in the sand mentality. I love cruising, but I don't understand why the suspension of disbelief from so many on these forums.
Because we try to be positive. With all thats going on it's nice to have something to hope for or look forward to. No matter what happens.

Totally agree with this, we were also on in July
My family and I were also on the Breeze last July and we thought she looked a little tired. Then again we sailed on her 4 times during her first 2 years in service. Overall though the crew was great, we felt she was clean and with all thats going on now she'll be super clean I'm guessing.

We booked one adult in each room with kids in each room. When we boarded the ship, we asked for extra room keys. The boys all slept in one room. My DW and I had our own room.
We are doing something similar, but since we are receiving OBC for both cabins our PVP advised me to wait until we board to switch back into my cabin and let my oldest daughter and her friend have the second inside cabin, but I like your idea of just grabbing a third key for our cabin.

I get that. I just don't understand peoples willingness to give an interest free loan to an entity in this climate who has really shaky credit.
Because the people who really love to cruise are taking advantage of really low rates. Who cares about a couple hundred dollar deposit. Do you play the lottery? Do you go to a professional athletic event and spend a few hundred between tickets, eating, drinking and enjoying it. I bought over $400.00 in raffle tickets and for my daughters soccer club and didn't win (oh well), it was for a good cause. So my deposit that I give carnival for my now 4 cruise between 2021 and 2022 plus June 27th. Is fine with me. If it keeps carnival afloat. I'm all in.

I am sure if we work together as a group unicorns and mermaids may also appear on the cruises in June!
Please tell me all the folks who are cruising in 8 weeks how they will keep the crew safe. I am well aware that all the passengers are going to be healthy or bravely willing to take the chance of dying as that is what many are saying here. Or the people who have had it and are now able to live life as they did before (not medically proven yet) - where is your thoughts for the crew who if heaven forbid we don't tip properly or demand too much of them?? What if a passenger wakes up June 27th and says I feel funny but I am healthy - no issues here I am going and spreads to the staff who 2 weeks later gets sick and maybe dies??
We are in the middle of a pandemic (hopefully in the down mode) and if you think people from around the country and your home wont drive to a port near you to satisfy their cruise addiction and maybe infect hundreds with them - I think you would be kidding yourselves.
Lots of what if's. Hoping my June 27th cruise on Panorama so my family and I can get the heck out of the Boston area and relax.

No, they have no intention on actually sailing. The reason they open "cruises" is so that they can get money from you (called a deposit) they are welcome to use interest-free, and hopefully avoid bankruptcy. This is much cheaper money for them than from other sources. When they cancel the cruise, they hope you will take a FCC so they can keep your money longer.
Anyone if you want to send me money instead, I promise to send it back to you in the fall, no interest of course.
No thanks, I rather give my small deposits to carnival.

Thank you for your comment. I wasn't aware I that my post was a 'political ranting'. I merely stated the facts, as I understood them. I'm sure you will agree with me, that my opinions, and ONLY my opinions, are shared with others on this on this forum.
I strongly feel, that all of us will be sailing again. ... It's only a matter of time....And when. That's all.
It was a good post and not a political rant at all.

Please don't take this the wrong way... but if you think a cruise ship is a "floating petri dish" and you won't be on a ship in the near future, what is the point of reading and contributing to a forum like this about cruising?
For all of those who think a cruise ship is a "petri dish", you really need to educate yourselves about all of the places in the world that are FAR more dirty, including some places even in your own home. If you think a cruise ship is bad, I would recommend you never visit some of the kitchens of your local, neighborhood restaurants.
Excellent points and so true. It's refreshing to see a few positive posts. Although I'm sure the negative ones will continue. Thank you

I suspect the desperation of Caribbean islands to restart tourism will eventually override any concerns they have about the virus. If you think the economic destruction in the US is bad, you haven't seen anything compared to these island nations where 70%+ of the economy is driven by tourism. The question might end up being, how can we shuttle people from Florida to Grand Bahama to escape the CDC's jurisdiction and board cruises?
Agreed the island must be struggling and need the tourist. Sadly, and I'm trying to be neagative with this but will people have the disposible income to cruise again over the next 6 months to a year. Cruise ship will sail this year but with the way things are now, people might not have the money to sail and I think that sucks.. Hopefully, Im very wrong.

And I never said otherwise - we have no idea how many sick people were on planes. Nobody does. So the optics /aren't there/. We didn't see planes in the news flying in circles begging for an airstrip to let them land.
We DID see cruise ships on the news, every day, looking for places to dock. We heard stories of people sick and dying and no one letting them off, no one wanting to take them.
Even NOW there are ships still sailing around. It's visible. What's noticed is what counts. And right now the optics for the cruise lines are very, very bad. One ill person can infect everyone on a ship and lots of people in lots of different countries. So there's not going to be any ships sailing until a way has been agreed upon to mitigate those risks. Those highly visible, very real risks.
Just because it's not 'fair' doesn't mean it's not accurate. No cruises are going to sail until mitigation plans are in place.
I see you been on CC for a long time do you even like to cruise any more or just need to try and prove a point. The cruise lines will be fine, not next week and probably not at the end of June but ships will sail again by the fall.. Have a great day.

I feel the same exact way. Im a sea day person myself and could care less about most ports. I do have a few I enjoy but I also have some my family and I don't even bother getting off the ship. I would love to see Costa Rica come back if safe (I know it was dropped years ago).
