  1. I suggest you take a look at the Royal FAMILY suite.(Not the Royal Suite!) They have 2 Pullmans in addition to the regular bed. They are limited. They are much more family friendly.

We usually travel in a GS and I would not think you would be very comfortable in a GS. It would be a tight fit. In my opinion.

If a family suite is not to your liking, take a look at the Owners suite. It is a bit larger but, you would have to put the 2 kiddos in the sofa bed.

    Either way,,,,have fun!!!!!

I'll have to call as you can't book it online. Assume it's more $, given larger room. Is price comparable to an OS.?

Price on the cruise for a GS is very good normally look at JS at this price, so thought I'd bump up from a JS.

  2. Hi,

Interested in feedback from those that have stayed in a GS with or without kids. In looking at online pics, it's a nice room, but appears the only bed option is the sofa. We have two girls, 7 and 3 at time of sailing, so not sure it will work putting both on the sofa bed. Is there other sleeping options? Pull down bed?

If not a GS, any other family friendly, budget friendly, suite options on this class?

Also read about new aft GS on Allure, but only 6 of those and they look like they book quickly.

    Thanks

Hi, I see you are on the same cruise we are booked on. We have a small group discussion, kind of quiet now, but would love for you to come on over and join our group.

July 3rd Radiance North Bound Roll Call

We haven't yet decided on our excursions yet, but will be renting an RV from Anchorage and will be touring around for about 5 days.

We are looking at Zipline in Ketchikan, we are renting a car in Skagway, and possibly a bear excursion in ISP. We also want to go back to Taku Lodge from Juneau, but got to look at the budget first.

  4. Thanks everyone for your comments and assistance. I did some googling today looking for pictures and found the images about the cover over the lifeboat, but realized the aft cabin I had would not be one of those. I looked at pictures of the aft section and didn't think the view down would be obstructed.

We decided, for different reason (closer to elevator) to move to 7534. We are really excited about the larger balcony and hope our next door neighbor chooses not to peer around the partition, but if they do I'll have to charge admission. LOL

  5. Thanks for the input. It looks like the Aft, 7658 area also has the extended balcony just like the forward. So, I don't think I'll be dealing with the skating rink overhang.

We've only done one JS. However this was kind of last minute thing and when you look at $1649 for an E1 or $4350 per person for a JS, we had to go with the lower cost. I think we'll be fine, but want to give it a try as we'll be doing a D1 Aft for our 20th Anniversary in Alaska, and this will give us a good feel of what it will be like.

  6. I don't recall exactly how much coverage there was on the balcony. I know there was some. It was very warm during the canal transit and I remember trying to find as much shade as possible and sometimes it was hard to come by depending on the time of day. I don't think that would be an issue in Alaska. You will probably welcome the sun.

I'm not sure about the chairs. I know we had the nice ones on our Hawaii cruise in 2007 but they could be different for Alaska. I do know that this cruise went on to Alaska when we disembarked and I can't imagine that they changed the chairs. This cruise was on the Radiance also.

Well, in Alaska it's the rain I was thinking about. If there is little cover then the balcony becomes much smaller if it's raining.

    Thanks for the info!!

  7. We stayed in 1604 on our last Panama Canal transit and loved it. My only complaint was that we didn't have the nice lounge chairs as shown in the picture. We only had the two regular chairs but asked our cabin steward if he could get us lounge chairs. He said he wasn't supposed to but he would see what he could do. He came up with two but they weren't very nice ones. They were the ones with the vinyl straps and looked pretty old.

I had a question about the amount of open air or coverage from the overhead that existed in 1604. It looks from the aft picture on this thread that 1604 has less then the one below it, but pictures can be deceptive.

I really like the chairs in these pictures. Are they are a recent change, do they change them out for the different areas, i.e. go to plastic in Alaska, but have the nice canvas chairs in the caribean or pacific?

  8. All,

If you had your choice between a JS 1042 or D1 1604 which would you choose. It seems to me the comparison is

JS 1042 - Extra Service, but does this really matter?

JS 1042 - Larger cabin space

JS 1042 - Smaller balcony, with a full side view

D1 1604 - Normal Oceanview cabin, same service as all of the decks

    D1 1604 - Smaller cabin space

D1 1604 - Larger Balcony, is it really that large. The diagram makes it look large, but the pic above doesn't look like it is all that much larger.

    Any thoughts?
