Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We didn't try OVC for dinner, but we did like it for breakfast and lunch.
  2. That I did, although I haven't heard anything back from them.
  3. We just returned from a 4-day cruise on Silhouette and the MDR food just wasn't that good! The first night I got ravioli and my husband got the sirloin steak and he was seriously underwhelmed. The second night we both got lobster, which wasn't too bad but the rice they served with it was just plain nasty. We tried to go elsewhere the third night but were unable to get reservations. I got rigatoni that was only so-so. My husband got salmon and he didn't care for it. I really can't speak to the desserts as I am diabetic and stuck with no-added-sugar ice cream. The fourth night we were able to get reservations at Qsine and the food was far and away better. We have no complaints about the Ocean View Cafe, however. They had a good variety and the food was fresh and plentiful. I loved the Indian choices and tried some things I'd never had before, like black pudding, British bacon and coddled eggs. Going forward, we'd probably skip the MDR altogether and go with specialty dining or OVC every night.
  4. We just returned from a cruise on Silhouette. We had the classic drinks package and were not charged for Irish Coffee at Cafe Al Bacio, but I was charged 1.40 for the shot of Bailey's I had added to my latte.
  5. We were not happy with the app or the wi-fi at all. We wanted to skip the MDR for a specialty restaurant one night. We looked at The Porch and since there was no Reservations option, we assumed that they didn't require them. We went there that night and the manager informed us, quite rudely, that reservations were required. I also got a very unpleasant surprise our last night when I learned that our airport transfer request was not received. I went a couple of rounds with Guest Services over this and was pretty steamed. But we ended up carrying our own bags off the ship and found a shuttle right away so all's well that ends well.
  6. I just finished a trip on Silhouette, our first time on X. We (especially my husband) were underwhelmed with the MDR dinners. The service was find but the food, especially the side dishes like rice, just wasn't that good. We had dinner our last night in Qsine and it was far and away better than the MDR. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by the OVC. Aside from one MDR breakfast we ate all our breakfasts and lunches there. The food was fresh and tasty and if they didn't have it, you didn't need it. So I can see why some people prefer dinner in the OVC, especially if they just want to eat and get on with their evening.
  7. We are sailing on the Silhouette Thursday and have pre-paid our gratuities and classic drink packages. Is appropriate to tip bartenders, baristas, etc., in addition to this and if so, how much? Thanks so much!
  8. We're sailing on the Silhouette this coming week. Do the verandah rooms have bathrobes? I know the Retreat and other premium staterooms do but I wasn't sure about the others.
  9. We're sailing on Silhouette Thursday and we paid the all-inclusive fare for a verandah room. The classic drinks package is plenty enough for us and if I wanted to spend the day net-surfing, I wouldn't do it on a cruise. This fare also included gratuities, but I'm fully prepared to tip over and above this for certain things.
  10. We're first-timers on Celebrity and Silhouette too, sailing next week. Really looking forward to it.
  11. That's what I'd like to know. When we booked our Verandah room on the Silhouette, we chose the inclusive option which covered Wi-fi, basic drink package and gratuities. Our reservation is showing that we pre-paid $140.00 in gratuities. Would this cover the room service gratuity or would it be included in the room service charge?
  12. Is it possible to arrange for coffee to be delivered to your room the night before? We're looking forward to having coffee on the verandah!
  13. This will be our second cruise overall and first with X. We chose the inclusive option when booking, which is supposed to cover tips, wi-fi and classic drinks package. When reading over these forums, I noticed that they charge and 18 percent gratuity for drinks - is this in addition to the gratuity we pre-paid or is it covered under the inclusive option? Also, we are listed as Anytime dining but we wanted the 8:30 sitting - how difficult is this to change?
