Hey Stan. My name is Gayle and I'm traveling solo. I grew up in Atlanta and Pensacola and currently live in Montgomery. I want to take independent tours in Istanbul and Jerusalem feeling that a lone female could have problems. Traveled on Celestyal when it was Louis and found it a great experience.  Not a particularly religious person, but praying for a cruise.

Gayle, I am also a single female traveling on this cruise. There will be several other singles from a singles group that are on this cruise as well. Fingers crossed that everything goes as planned.

  2. I cancelled my July Alaska cruise in mid-April. Everything that was charged to a credit card was refunded this week. I am still waiting replacement gift cards for the remainder of the money paid. I called today and was advised that they didn't have my address, so that is why the gift cards haven't been sent yet. He fixed that and advised the cards should be sent soon.

  3. I will be on the Legend in a few weeks and could use some misc. information:

    1.  Can you order room service from your cabin television?

    2.  Are the daily dining room menus listed on the cabin television?

    3.  I read about Carnival upgrading the cakes at the buffet. Does the Legend have these new cakes?

    4.  What movies have recently been playing and in what room are they shown, since there is no outdoor Dive-in movie on the Legend?

    5.  What is the most recent Platinum/Diamond gift?

    6.  Is there a "Farewell" party on the last sea day?

    7.  Is there a Mongolian Wok on the Legend?

    8.  Is there a Chocolate Extravaganza or Chocolate Lovers Feast at the buffet?

According to Wikipedia the Legend is 963x105.6 which makes her the correct size to use the original locks.  Since the new locks have been opened they have not taken a ship through them that could fit in the original locks.  I think it is a safe bet you will use the original locks.

Actually there are only a limited number of slots for new locks each day and they would rather allot those slots to ships that are unable to pass through the original locks.

Thank you so much for this information.

What ship are you sailing on? We will be at port October 18, 2019 on the NCL Joy. NCL currently has no excursions listed for this port. We too are interested in Antigua.

We are on the Carnival Legend, arriving on October 17th. We have signed up for Colonial Antigua, Jade Museum & Factory tour. I hope to have some free time in Antigua as well.

Hi all.  Had no idea these questions were there.  I'd like to blame the heat but am sitting in air conditioning, so no excuses.

My ports of call were Skagway (we did the Haines Wilderness Adventure), Juno (Mendenhall Glacier, MacCauley Hatchery, and Salmon Bake), Ketchican (Rainforest Walk & Totems).  I'll try to get up a detailed review soon.  These are all ship's tours because booking otherwise, although cheaper, would have resulted in so much drama with my sister being convinced we would miss the ship that it is not worth it.

Highlight was sailing through Tracey Arm Fjord, which was stunning.  That was also the day we had the most whales, dolphins, and sharks around the ship.

Lowlight was the stop in Victoria.  I guess it is necessary because of the Jones act, but it was pointless.  They seemed to have closed down for the day before we got there at 7:30pm.  Would much rather have had four more hours in Ketchican.

And as I mentioned in another thread, definitely in the "no straw" zone on Legend.

Looking forward to your review of the Legend. I'll be on her in October for the Panama Canal cruise.

We had wonderful tours with Dora and Gio ("8 in 1") a couple of years ago; I think you'll have a great time!

If you decide the volcano in Guatemala is too much, I would highly recommend taking the ship's "Antigua on Your Own" tour.  It's RT transportation to Antigua (which is a good idea to do through the ship, since's a long way on a two-road); there's a guide on the bus who will talk to you on the way there, and give you a street map.  (You can also get maps on line.) The central area of Antigua is very compact and walkable on your own.  (You should have about 4 hours there.)  Plenty of info on line about what to see in Antigua.

In January, we'll be taking our second Canal cruise (another full transit).  Santa Marta is one of our ports (it wasn't on our first cruise), and I too am unsure about what to do there, even after researching this port.

My cruise doesn't offer "Antigua on your own", but there is a 5 1/2 tour including Antigua and a jade museum & factory. I suspect it will give some time on our own in Antigua, so maybe I'll sign up for that.

If you figure out anything for Santa Marta, let me know. I'm looking at something from the cruise called "The Wild Beauty of Tayrona National Park". There isn't much else being offered that looks interesting to me.
