Grape vine has it NCL's phasing out stand up pro comedians .:(
Very disappointing if it comes to fruition. Second City desperately needs new material.
The "problem"with comedians is that there is always someone offended who takes to the internet to express their outrage . :rolleyes:
Of course the outrage can be mollified with a little OBC, or specialty dining.

Good post by the OP;
I figured my additional expense at $37, still under FDR's goal of $50

There's a huge difference between the "banning" and "asking".
The policy will be toothless, like saving loungers, consuming too much alcohol (NCL asks passengers to refrain from a lot of excesses).
Extremely disappointed in cc for fanning the flames

My speculation with no backup / support:
With the continuation of the "free" UBP and UDP pormotion, FDR has moved onto phase II.
Ration the product (UBP & UDP) that drove cruise sales higher by eliminating Cagneys, and reducing the number of bar servers (next).
Obviously reducing the bar servers will take time, because the employees are on contracts. I would expect to notice the difference in the Fall; in the meantime, don't be surprised if the bar servers have lost the hop in their step serving the UBP customers.
Might make sense to let your server know that you are a paying drinker

I don't consider a buffet a restaurant, In my experience, NCL has always frowned on cruisers taking food (from restaurants). On our last cruise, the waiter indicated he could get in trouble if I was seen by the maître de or allowed by waiter to take-out. Nice waiter had our desserts delivered to the cabin within minutes.

Bowling alleys on the Gem are not regulation, definitely short

The new cruise ship schedule for Bermuda was updated April 4, 2015. It looks like the Dawn and the "... of the Seas" ships switched wharfs for this season
-
I appreciate the Op's insightful posts and thoughts.

On our Breakaway cruise in October they put a $300 hold on our credit card on embarkation night, even though we had over $2500 in pre-purchased OBC. Nothing was ever charged to our card and the hold dropped off a few days later. About a month after the cruise we received a check for the balance of the unused OBC.
My experience as well.

The Buffet line on the Dawn is narrower than on newer ships, with plates at the beginning or end creating a conga line affect. Much different on the jewel type ships with "action stations"

February 2015 BA Balcony (3 Pass.) on the Gem paid $3305 (nine day pd. $2975, adj. for 10 day for comparison)
Current pricing February 2016 BA Balcony on the Gem $4,150
increase 25%

I agree with David (OP) and DaPainter, the current promos and inflated cabin costs don't work for us currently. We are Non drinkers, happy with the MDR menu, with a couple of free (platinium) LeBistro meals.
we're looking at Bermuda for this summer and the Caribb. in February 2016. The Caribb cruise price is almost $2000 more than 2015 for the same cabin.
For Bermuda, We are going to wait out NCL and if prices drop after final payment, we will book. If prices don't drop into good deal territory, we may still book and try our first inside cabin

When NCL starts cutting bar servers (which I think they will, to limit UBP), then it will be time to panic.
-
So if I understand the OP correctly:
He will not cruise NCL again;
He has taken to CC and other forms of media to "out" NCL;
He never explained what he wanted as compensation;
Why would NCL compensate someone who is not coming back, belittles the product in media, and won't say what will please him?
circular file.

two words: legal representation

It's simply to reward the specialty restaurant servers for the extra work they have to do with all the folks getting the UDP; in a sense the cash paying customers are supporting UDP customers...
-
You also may want to consider the game room / video arcade for your purchase of bottle / cans. On many ships the room contains a soda machine.

On our last cruise on the Gem last November , we asked to get the mini bar emptied and found the content in a pillow case under the bed .
Same with us on the Gem last month; wonder how those Heinekens and Amstels' tasted after being cooled and warmed, probably multiple times.

We book Balcony Cabins and pay 93% of NCL Retail price and generally receive $200 - $250 in OBC from the on-line TA; plus whatever promotion NCL is running at the time.
We receive absolutely no customer service from the TA and once when I emailed a question to him, I received a reply of "your answer is here" with a link to the NCL main webpage.
Having said that, I believe that if you are a regular visitor / poster to the NCL forum here on Cruise Critic, you already know more about the NCL product than the average TA -
I find the sleep sofa's (if the room has one) hard as a rock.

According to pelicanpassage.com it is 386 nm from Boston to NYC; a full extra day north and south moving rapidly (18kt) . If I was retired it would be nice, but three (plus) sea days on either leg would be too much for me, and my employer.

Like to see the Gen Dailies too!

Like I'm gonna remember all that stuff from 17+ cruises taken over a 20+ year period of time?!!? Hell, I don't even remember EXACTLY how many cruises we've taken, let alone the dates, cabin numbers, etc.
Then why post.
I hope your other 1,000 posts brought something more,:rolleyes:
