Hola all!
Mysty: Valle de Guadalupe is area of prime vineyards in Baja California. I am familiar with LA Cetto wines. Hopefully, LCBO will import more from MEX that you can try. I am (embarrassed to say) a white wine drinker who is now in love with Spain's Rueda Verdejo!
Have a great day!

Looks yummy and what is in it???

Penny, what wonderful memories! And your DH traveled in exalted circles! :) Thanks for sharing that!
No, he was a lowly LT and just following orders!!

I remember looking like the Michelin Man!
Mysty, you mentioned that I was in Canada for Centennial year. I was and it was exciting. We were in Halifax and navy ships and tall ships from all over the world came for a sail past. Then many of the ships sailed to Montreal for Expo. I flew to MTL and met my DH on the ship for Expo festivities. There were lots of events and parties!! The Queen Mother came to Halifax and my DH flew her around the Maritimes and flew her to NFLD for some salmon fishing. Good memories.....

Mysty: I forgot to mention that I moved to Canada on Halloween 1966! Another thing that makes it special!

Miss Sophia: It is my favorite way to celebrate my dear departed husband. I bring out favorite photos, marigolds, sugared dead heads and a tot of rum (he was RCN) and set up my altar in the study. I leave it up for a week. I also include pics of our favorite deceased pups.....

I wish I was adept enough to post pics.....do Google catarinas, they are special. I have one in my foyer that is 3 ft. high made of talavera. She has calla lilies on her hat, her dress is decorated with flowers and birds. She had a silk purse and lovely jewelry. I named her Iris after arco iris (rainbow). I leave her there all year long.

According to what we are told, the festival began 2500 years ago and was practiced by the Aztecs. When the Spanish conquistadores arrived, the friars merged the practice with All Souls Day as a way to evangelize the indigenous population. Now, deceased children are remembered on 1 Nov. and deceased family and friends are remembered on Nov. 2. Relatives and friends go to graveyards, clean up and decorate the sites with marigolds, bring sweets, favorite foods of the departed, and drinks. Some families stay overnight, or even two nights, remembering and celebrating the lives of their loved ones. There are parades and music.
People set up altars in their homes with photos, flowers, sugared "dead heads", catarinas (skeleton figures). (Even I do this!)
The most famous area to experience the festivities is on the island of Janitzio in Lake Patzcuaro Michoacan. People from all over the world come for this one.

And we will be having three days of Dia de los Muertos celebrations here. One of my favorite holidays.

We in Mexico also turned our clocks back this morning. My pups happily were ready to get up at 5:30 am......not I!!
Enjoy the day everyone. Sorry about the dreary weather, Mysty. It is almost Halloween, isn't it? When we were in WPG that was usually the first snowfall.

Wonderful pics and posts!

It is interesting that there are so many different experiences and points of view.

I agree with you, Jeff. It could have been handled so much better. The heavy handedness during and after last month's vote must have caused some Catalans to change their thinking, and now this.

Good morning. I just read the article, thanks Jeff. Thank you for your kind words, Cam! The article mentioned civil disobedience and my main concerns are things like baggage handling and longshoremen duties. Plus road closures. I'm staying at Condes de Barcelona in Eixample. I stayed in that area last year. Centrally located, as you probably know.....but it is a matter of getting to and from, isn't it?
So, buen dia, quien sabe? and que sera!

I have received 3 OBC's on my last three cruises on SS and I have never asked. I am a solo cruiser. These were booked through my SS TA.

Hear, hear Jeff for your comments regarding today's cabin crews. Back in the day, we would refuse to board inebriated passengers and would turn them over to the station agents. The really bad ones went to jail.
I would very much miss my wine on the way to Europe and back. It's a celebratory thing!
Very concerned about the situation in Catalonia. TTS-es and I embark in BCN in two weeks.

Loved the posts and Jeff's cartoon (which is also sad!). Regarding your ages...You are all younger than me and I don't feel old! Some days I am amazed that I am this age. To me, age is a state of mind and my mind has not atrophied yet...so as long as I feel like this, I'll venture out, smell the roses and have a hell of a good time.....On that not, have a great day my Cooler friends!...Penny

Happy Birthday TTS. Looking forward to seeing you on the 10th. So hoping that we don't experience problems in BCN.....airport, train station and cruise terminal etc.
-
Spot on for me also! I am flying two carriers booked through SS, and checked my documentation early and late.Oh yes, and I am flying from the US.
-
So very sorry! Hope you feell better soon, That is a real bummer.....
-
The dishes that you post look delicious also! I, too, have a cruise coming up. We sail from BCN on Nov. 10th.
Your meals onboard will be should be very special given the South American chefs that will be preparing their specialities...........

Jeff does manage to get the digestive juices flowing on a daily basis. Not good for my waistline, given that we have 3 weeks of vacation coming up!

That is interesting, Jeff. I usually do fly BA but last year the MEX BCN direct looked enticing!
