  1. Since I can only walk short distances and have poor balance, I use a wheelchair full time on board. I also am blind in one eye and hearing impaired. Last cruise we were assigned an MDR table that was not close to the entrance and the tables were kind of close. So one night, leaving the MDR, I got too close to a table on my blind side. I couldn’t see it but my wheelchair chair was pulling the tablecloth, and plates, glasses and food were perilously close to disaster. The servers were trying to tell me to stop, but I couldn’t hear them. Luckily someone got in front of me and stopped me before disaster struck. From now on,  I will always ask for a table easily accessible from the entrance.

I was looking at Apex cabins on deck 9. There are some cabins that show a wheelchair so I understand that means they are wheelchair accessible.  There are other  cabins close to the forward elevator called Prime cabins which I thought meant a great location, but when you click the cabin number, the cabins have accessible attached to the description. I don't know if there is a difference and was hoping Cruisecritic members might have an answer.

Can you post a link? I don’t know where you are seeing this. I don’t see it on any deck plans.

  3. All accessible cabins are wheelchair accessible. The accessible staterooms are intended for guests with mobility disabilities and other disabilities that require the use of the accessible features of the staterooms. Special needs accessible staterooms are designed with wider doors, roll-in showers, grab bars, lower sink and vanity, bathroom grab bars, higher toilet, and ramped thresholds.

If your husband has limited mobility, and difficulty walking more than a short distance, you might consider renting a scooter for him and getting an accessible cabin. The ships are pretty long, and there is usually a lot of walking involved. If he does not need a scooter, then your best bet is just to get a cabin close to the elevators, and leave the accessible cabins for those who need them.

  4. My sweet man has had to have several teeth (molars) taken out and until he can get implants he will have trouble chewing. Our cruise is just a couple weeks away. I’ve read about people asking for and getting special diets, has anyone ever had to ask for “soft” food? He’s being a champ about this and doesn’t want to cancel (mostly I think because he knows how much I have been looking forward to it) but I want him to be able to enjoy his food.

I agree with the majority that Mardi Gras would not be the ideal time for a first visit to NOLA.

DW and I have been many times and just returned from a long weekend there on Wednesday.  We got to see the Krewe De Vieux Parade as well as Krewe Delusion and spent some great evenings listening to music on Frenchman Street.

We were discussing trying to make it to NOLA for Mardi Gras someday and this cruise looks like it may fit the bill!  Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Hope you enjoyed Krewe de Vieux. My husband and I were in it for many years and many of the sub-krewes were very creative. So much fun to be in. Way better than one of the big parades.

  6. I haven’t been in SS on an S class, but I do cruise in an accessible cabin. Most have a drain grid across the opening as well as one in the corner. I haven’t had a problem with water outside the shower except what I drip on the floor. If you are concerned, a towel will be a bit extra protection. But don’t shower in high seas 🙂

True, but unless they change their Quarentine zone that wouldn't happen here. We have been monitoring the available rooms for a while now and haven't seen an oceanview open on deck 7 at all. So it may be possible, but we will take whatever we get including our current room.

Not sure what rooms 7000 through 7004 are. 03 and 04 could be verandas?

7002 and 7003 are accessible oceanview

Pick the top (most current) sail date that hasn't already departed (so you can see the entire menu for the next sailing, not just what's left of the current one).

You can see all days of current sailings, not just what’s left. At least I can on my iPad.
