  1. The NYPD utilizes the Bell 412 medium lift helicopter as their primary air sea rescue unit,

I don't claim to be an expert on the operation of the helicopter, if you look at the video

the helicopter appears to be tucked in behind the super structure of the ship, and it is in a

stationary hover during the hoisting of the passenger, they may have hovered behind the

super structure as a wind break.

Again I am by no means an expert this is just my opinion.

  2. NCL uses Gurkhas, and I've seen small female Gurkhas subdue much larger male drunks with simply a pressure hold.

Security has zip-tie cuffs, and whether or not they have various non-lethal means of subduing a person, or even lethal means, is up to the cruise line, and will not be discussed as it is part of the restricted Vessel Security Plan (which only the Captain knows the entire document, or even has access to it). I don't believe that ship security officers wear body cams, as they only need to meet the laws of the flag state, not the US. A more serious response to the incident in the OP may have required the presence of the Chief Security Officer, who may have needed time to get to the scene.

RCL Security does have body cams, for about a year now.

  3. Unlike local Law Enforcement, the Security Officers on ships do not have the various tools

readily available to subdue someone as described in the original post.

The use of any kind of chemical spray would be ruled out as the effects it would have on

others nearby in the interior of the ship can't be controlled.

If the security officers used batons/nightsticks, or a taser some of the passengers would be outraged.

The Security on ship is in a no win situation trying to subdue a passenger who is acting out as described.

The only thing available to them is to simply outnumber the person into submission, and even then there will

be passengers who will complain about the methods used.

And don't forget the inevitable second guessing that would follow from corporate headquarters, if

injuries occurred to the out of control "guest".

  4. I don't believe they have plain clothes/undercover security on board, makes no sense,

frankly would be a waste of security personnel, visual security works on board ship.

Why do people on this site need to know If they do or don't have weapons,

it is nobody's business, your on vacation relax.

  5. We drove from Charlotte to Port Canaveral back In 2015 and left the day before as always. When we drive we always leave early enough to get to PC at around 1:00 to 2:00. Well there was an accident on I-95 about 45 minutes to an hour out of PC and traffic detoured off one of the exits. Because of the heavy traffic getting off on that one exit and then re-routing the GPS to get to PC we did not get to our hotel until about 5:30. If it would have been the day of the cruise we would have missed the ship. So even driving people should plan on at least the day before! We saw later on the news that night that a bus carrying some college athletes had flipped over on I-95.

Below is my original post see the part about a port Canaveral cruise and a day early.

Since moving to Naples, Florida area, we leave early on the day of a cruise that

is leaving out of Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, it is a two hour drive across alligator

alley, but we allow 6 hours of travel time.

We will Fly into Seattle a day early for our Alaska cruise.

We have a future cruise out of Port Canaveral, for that one we will go a day early

estimated drive time is 4 hours but the route is through a much more heavily

    traveled/congested area of Florida.

  6. Mac I can appreciate that you live 2 hours from your ports but what if there is a 50 car pileup on the Alley and your plan of allowing 6 hours is not enough? I would much rather spend the night next to the Port.

I am looking at a cruise out of San Francisco and you can be damn sure I would spend the night before the cruise. I don't care that its only 50 miles to the port but there can be traffic on The Embarcadero leading to the port.

I get your point, but at the time in the morning that we leave, you would have a hard time

finding 50 cars on the whole length of aligator alley. Traffic is non existent early on a

    Sat/Sun morning in that area.

  8. I did. 12 yrs ago On August 1st the stock traded at $42.72. Now $117. You made 8.5% compounded. And more than that if your dividends were reinvested.

I originally paid $42 a share, then when everything tanked I was able to purchase

more and ended up at $11 per share.

Today it is at $117 per share.:)

  9. I was there in May, and noticed that the airport had installed a second row of

chain link fence along the roadway, adding a buffer zone of about 6ft. between

the original fence and the road.

We have been to Maho beach about 5 times and have never thought that riding the

fence was ever a good idea.

Being on the beach is fine, clinging on a fence while a commercial jet runs up the engines

for takeoff not the smartest thing to do. IMHO
